What I admire I”ve always had a love for travel and I always find myself looking at maps, working out where everything is in comparison to everything else. I’ve created a previous project on the idea of going to somewhere familiar but doing something a bit different to find out more about the place. Their projects always ingage me, and I’d love to be involved in this. - Creating imagery for interesting places and finding out new and exciting things about a certain place or city.

Emma Ruth Hughes

Illustrator and typographer working with a needle and thread

Emma Hughes is an illustrator and typographer working with a needle and thread. She is a freelance designer creating her own projects to get herself known. She has appearing in It’s Nice That, showcasing her current project And Sew For Today. I admire her recent projects and her style involving hand made skills.

And Sew for Today - a new daily project from Emma Ruth Hughes. One random word a day, stitched. A series of words embroidered in a range of fonts using silk floss on a variety of fabrics. As I am beginning to develop and bring in my stitching skills and hand rendered type, this project is inspiring and relates very well to my current project.

“Jessica Hische is a letterer, illustrator, and crazy cat lady known for her silly side projects and occasional foul mouth.”

One day I would love to work in my own shared studio with other creatives much like Jessica. Working amoungst other creatives buts doing your own commissions.

I ventured out on my own I admire her passionate approach for all things typographical. I follow her and her discussions and see that she loves what she does and it shows in her designs. She incorporates type with image, the two things she likes to do most.

What I admire

I’d like to work in a playful hand rendered way. I see her first sketched and I see that she finds it important to sketch and test first, which many designers these day forget to do.

Jessica Hograth is a freelance illustrator and surface pattern designer. She gathers her inspiration from her travels across the UK and Europe, especially Paris and the seaside.

Inpsired by her travels Her designs have been printing not only on fabric but for wallpaper as well. I admire her simple illustrations, they are playful but you get a great sense of the place.

What I admire For a long time now I have enjoyed patterns, I notice them and photograh them often and have learnt how to repeat pattern from my time at work experience with Urban Graphic. This is something I would like to perhaps bring into my work a little more.

Sarah Walton Embroidery

What I admire Sarah Walton is a illustrator who uses embroidery. I came across her during the summer and she inspired me to put my illustrations onto material. For a long time I have illustrated onto paper or onto adobe illustrator and I’ve always wanted to incorporate my stitching skills into my work. The image to the left was one of the first I saw that inspired me to do so.

I like her use of mix media and how she doesn’t just use pen and paper or the computer. She captured the personality of the people she creates with the pattern material. Even though you cant tell a lot from their expressions you can tell from the vibrant (or unvibrants) patterns used.

Zombie Collective are a group of graphic designers, illustrators Joely Brammer, Rebecca Jay, Alice Lickens, Maggie Li and Frann Preston-Gannon. Collaborated together to create a team who are buidling up a strong client list. They also put on a number of event and workshops for others to get involved in. I like the idea of collaboration as these guys do, they like to get involved as a team and all participate- to learn and teach each other.. which we can see in their creative workshops.

What I admire

The type of workshops they run varey. For example they have recently held a sports collage workshop at the Design Museum in aid of the olympics.

workshops to learn and They have come together to create their own business and started it up themselves. I like the idea of starting something from the beginning myself with a few other creatives.

Maggie Li

Maggi Li is one fifth of Zombie collevtive. I admire all their work but Maggie Li’s work particuarly stood out. She like to travel and is inspired by the outdoors, as am I. She uses hand rendered typography in her work, a new love of mine. She has a strong illurstative approach using minimal colours.

What I admire

As said before I would like to work in a small collaborative team such as Zombie collective. This way each creative can guide each other. As well as each having their own inidivual projects as each has a specific part of design they are god at. Each part of the team can promote and help one another.

Tribal Textiles “to create unforgettable and exquisite textiles whilst working in harmony with nature and benefitting the local community” As well as creating hand painted textiles inspired by the ‘African bush’ itself, they help to fund local charity projects in the area. I enjoy the way they work with textiles and create a payful colourful look on African life. I also admire the companies ethos and how they are also set out to help the local community and charities in a sustainable way.

What I admire

I couldn’t not pop one of my African favourites in. This summer I travelled to Zambia, and I’d love to go back. This company primarily like to employ locals but they are also on the look out for an international man or woman who has travelled to Africa before to help with the thriving company and share support and textile knowledge.
