Premise
This project seeks to understand the question of rural migration. Economical sustenance & Social dynamics are the reason for migration while village demographics clearly notes economical sustenance. By understanding the pull factors for people migrating for Socio-economical dynamics that city offers are addressed in the village which become the magnet for village sustenance. The project will be generated through two parts in the thesis. The first part of the thesis understands & analyze the dwellings and spaces for living & working to understand social life of village while second part study the rural fabric to regenerate the society which become a platform for people to Meet, learn & work together.

Project Definition
A social space for people - Hub for the social activities. A module that reflects the system of dwelling, a public platform for women to meet & work, a place for people to share ideas & to regenerate the revenue through Gruh Udhyog, a place for children to play, learn skills that city offers, the activities which seasonal river offer. The Idea is to create a center for the village to strengthen the idea of cultural production. It would provide a motive to enjoy recreational sports, a pool for children to play, to strengthen & promote recreation.

Reversing the typology by opening the ground to welcome people while private activities can happen above. below
A Network that addresses issues related to social, recreational & business activities is designed as a two storey structure following the village dwelling Typology. A dwelling have ground floor living spaces and upper floor privacy & storage spaces, in the same manner, a complex which generates ground for leisure activities while upper floor houses places for working & learning.
Design Statement + Objectives
Th Project intent to provide a unified plinth act as a mediator between different kind of users, and spaces, blurring the lines between Public space, housing and work environment. A plinth which is extension of village chowk. To strengthen the small scale businesses like Gruh-udhyog, for women to make aachar-papad & weaving cloths. To create an art magnet by bringing the vernacular artists, blacksmiths, carpenters of Nesadi and engaging them in interaction with students to share their skills and ideas that would be beneficial for community.

Design Elements
A Sense of Family Steel frame roof It is the structural element evolved from the existing roofing system. The roofs are interconnected to each other. Wall The wall is interpreted from the existing street facade of two storey houses. Courtyards The activities open up in the courtyard & series of open spaces. They are connections and linkages between two spaces.

Case Study
The forest of gir contains large area of grazing fields which provides appropriate living condition for the semi-sedentary and sedentary maldharis. Their settlement called ‘Ness’ form a typical house type which also houses the cattle with human habitat. House form and settlement pattern which is derived through the lifestyle within a forest gives a strong character to architecture. Living in harmony with nature adds to the character. Documentation of a farmer’s house. Typical house plan of a farmer in the village settlement is constructed with mud wall load bearing structure supported by wooden joist and brick wall construction. For utility area, bathrooms, water tanks mud with mixture of lime and cement is used as a binding material.

A thorough planning and zoning was done prior to construction as seen above. To reduce the overall carbon foot print, 90% of the materials were sourced from within 100 Kms radius of our facility. Simple, Natural Mud was the key constituent of the construction material

Nesadi village is located on National highway 112 at distance of 8 km from both Savarkundala & Chalala district. River Shell is flowing through Amreli towards Nesadi village, although it's a seasonal river controlled by Vadi dam in Amreli. Narmada river pipeline water provision is available by the government of Gujarat. Youth of Nesadi village as well as nearby villages is also noticed to be involved in farming or agriculture related activities. Craftsmanship is one of their major activities during leisure time. On the other hand Savarkundla have colleges & institutions where students go for higher education. Nesadi falls between these villages due to which it can increase their potential for business activities if some insertion is provided. Nesadi village can provide a platform for people from nearby villages to come, learn & work.

Nesadi village is one of the major villages in the locality with 1000 houses & total population of 4600 people.Out of total population, 2160 were engaged in work activities. 85.28 % of workers describe their work as Farming, while 14.72 % were involved in Marginal activity providing livelihood for less than 6 months. Of 2160 workers engaged in Farming, 857 were cultivators (owner or co-owner) while 550 were Agricultural laborers. Ground Nut, Cotton and Sesame are agriculture commodities grow in this village. 8 hours agricultural power supply is available in this village. Total irrigated area in this village is 530.32 hectares from Boreholes/Tube wells. Drinking-Water and Sanitation Treated Tap Water Supply is available all round the year and Untreated. UnCovered Well and Tube Wells/Boreholes are other Drinking Water sources. Closed Drainage System Available in this Village. There is no system to Collect garbage on street. Drain water is discharged directly into water bodies. Communication Sub Post Office is available in this Village. Mobile Coverage is available. Internet Center available in this village. Built - Open Relationship Gamtal was on a higher terrain housing the oldest village structures. Built vs Open Majority of houses in village are mud-walled hip roofed Kutcha houses that are made of stone plinths, Wooden trusses supported by wooden logs and Lime plastered mud walls, while rest are of composition of blocks made up of mud extended in concrete walled flat slab Pucca houses. Built - Open Relationship Gamtal Zone clusters & their relationships of streets to open spaces which are private courtyards and public courtyards. Lime plastered surfaces are one of the important element which is an easy tool applied on majority of kutcha houses by the users. The blues and browns with greens completes an overall color pallette of the built fabric.

Context
A highway cutting through village is dividing village into two zones. Institutional buildings & commercial buildings including school, shops & temples are generating activities on both the edges. While secondary chowk are also housing small temples & shops. A village well is on the riverbank recharged through seasonal river. While a Lighthouse was being used to generate electricity for the first time in locality for house & water pump usage in farm when nearby villages were not occupied with electric connections.

Majority of roads and streets are laid in a manner of topographic conditions. Gamtal zone is on a high terrain making organic build - open spaces and network of streets. Kathi-Rabari were nomadic tribe who used to travel from Gir towards Saurashtra for pastorals of land who settled in the village on Ness which means a elevated house & a society of ness was gathered giving the place identity of Nesadi. Majority of People are Kathidarbar ( Kathiawadi- community name) farmers surrounding the village. The south zone in the village called Patelvas [ Patelwada ] have houses of Patel community. There is something which is lacking in this zone due to which a character is not getting generated, there are open lands partially owned by villagers. Barrel lands can counter interactive places which will help providing a link between village & Patelvas of village.

This patch is housing majority of houses owned by farmers with single storey structures which are mud walled hip roofed houses. Approaches are through rcc roads which varies from 2 to 3 m sufficient for a cart to pass-by. Few houses have two storey structure made up of composite walls while rest are Kutcha houses. Majority of houses are in working condition. Few houses are not working [not being used] in the north part. Although majority of houses are occupying a private courtyard or a shared open court which is significant of the village.
