has always been part of my life. From the moment I was able to pick up my first crayon I have been facinated with painting,drawing and photography. My influencers are definitely my family. My Nanna has paintings that cover her home. Most are her own, and the others are ones she has bought over the years. My aunt has always been more into the design side of art. She has done both interior design and architecture. Watching her work was what led me to love computer design. And lastly there is my mom; a woman that always has a camera in her hand. My whole life is documented in thousands of printed photos because of her, and now I have grown to love being on both sides of the camera. These three women laid my foundation to what is now a never ending love for every kind of art. In May of 2012 I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Graphic Design. I do not think I could have done that without them.

Practice sending positive non-verbal messages. This is especially important for those people who tend to be very non-emotive. Practice smiling at others for no reason and watch what happens! Bus Donated to Ignite by The Evangel Foursquare Church!

by Mary Waldrip My name is Gus Dilka and I was born in Tacoma, WA. I grew up knowing about God, but I did not know who God was. When I was sixteen years old I was trapped in a life of sin that would eventually kill me if I had not turned to the Lord. One day the Lord spoke to me and said that I had a choice; that I could get up and out of my horrible life of sin and live, or stay there and die. I didn’t know how to respond to that, but a few months down the road I found myself at a church camp in Colorado. All of my life, whenever I had the opportunity to respond to an alter call God would tug on my heart so much, but I was always afraid to go up. At this church camp I decided to stop fighting it and go up and give my life over to Jesus Christ. This event impacted me so much. That week I was filled with the Holy Spirit, and on the Thursday morning of that week, I asked God why he was doing what he was doing for me. God said to me, “Because I am calling you to be a pastor and to go into the ministry, I want you to be a preacher. This is why I made you; this is why you are here.” It is difficult to explain, but I heard it. It was like he spoke to my heart, but it came from inside of me and I knew it was God. I am glad to say that today I live for Christ, and I am passionately pursing the call that God has on my life.

Generosity comes through many different avenues. For the Ignite Academy, generosity has recently been shown in the form of a bus. The Evangel Foursquare Church, located in Roanoke, Virginia, has displayed the heart of the Foursquare family to the student body. This congregation has supported and cared for Ignite students by attending the first semester’s weekly service called “The Journey.” As well, teams of students have attended the church and have been overwhelmed by the warm heartedness, delicious food and faithful support.“Hospitable, caring, kind and in tune with the Holy Spirit” is how sophomore student, Leah Petrosky, described this church. Ken and Betty Wright have been the pastors of the Evangel Foursquare Church for fifty years now. Toward the end of the fall semester, Pastor Ken approached Mike Larkin, president of the Ignite Academy, and said that he wanted to support the student body by providing Ignite with transportation. Many prayers of provision have been asked of the Lord by the Ignite Academy staff over the past couple years, and the Lord has proved His faithfulness once again. “Every week the Evangel Foursquare Church would feed us as though we were kings and would include us in their congregation as though we were family. With the donation of this bus, it feels as though they are an older sibling looking out for us and another example of how generous they are in welcoming us into their church,” said sophomore student, Josh Simon. Dean of Students, Josh Smith, has been going through the process of acquiring a Commercial Driver’s License test to become the official Ignite Academy bus driver. The bus has been re-painted with the school logo and website on the side, as well as a “thank you” on the back to the Evangel Foursquare Church. I have had the privilege of working with the Salem Foursquare Church. This is where my ministry team has had the opportunity to serve every other Sunday. It has been such an amazing experience for me. To me, church is a safe place, it is a place that makes one feel comfortable and at home. They have truly shown the love of Christ to all who enter. The congregation is inviting and treats people like they have known them for years. The second one walks in, he or she receives the feeling of home. Serving at the Salem Church is not a task, but a privilege and I love every second of it. The church is small, but they are growing. We have the opportunity to help in many different areas. I have had the privilege of helping out with the kids and youth. They are so sweet and I enjoy growing with them whenever I get the opportunity. They want to help you grow and learn in the best way possible and they do this in a nonjudgmental way. I love this because in their eyes you cannot make a mistake. They show the love and grace of Christ in every way possible. Pastor Jay, who is the pastor of Salem Foursquare, is very intentional about investing in each of our lives. He wants us to not only grow in our ministry, but also grow in Christ. He cares so much about us and is willing to seek us out and help us in anyway possible. It is a blessing to be able to know the pastor at a personal level. I greatly enjoy working with Salem Foursquare and I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to work with such a loving church. The congregation and the pastor truly show an example for what the body of Christ is supposed to look like. I love how in the Ignite Academy we are given so many opportunities to

God has always been my constant. He has been and is the one I run to when everything around me is falling. I wanted to serve Him in every capacity because to me, He was the only thing worth giving my life away. When considering colleges, this idea was priority to me. I wanted a challenge. Being more of an intellectual, I wanted to be stretched in a practical way. Learning about God was not going to be enough for me- I knew this. I longed to serve Him not only with my mind and heart, but with my hands as well. I grew up in a Christian household with excellent parents and was surrounded by fantastic spiritual leaders. Growing up, I always enjoyed education. I knew I wanted to be a teacher on the mission field. I also had this desire emerging in me to do something different with my life. Traditional education was not going to satisfy me. As soon as the format of Ignite was laid out before me, I knew it was the challenge I so wanted. And I took it. I have not looked back since. I have been so deeply changed from being in God’s Word daily and from living in a Christian community where I am free to make mistakes as well as free to act in my ambitions. I do not have a rough background where I can be an obvious example of an exterior change, but I had deep hurts in my heart and I cannot deny the change God has done in that place. God has flung open doors of opportunity for me in my being here, and I am so thrilled to see what is next. For right now though, I am at ease where I am-in His arms, in the middle of His family, being loved and having the chance to love.

index - artwork explanations tropical fish: this was one of the first graphic projects I did. We learned how to take a photograph and copy it with filled shappes. The result was a very cartoon like image. tshirt design: for this project we were given the freedom to design whatever graphic we wanted for a t-shirt. At the time I had been talking about psalm 1 with a friend so I decided to design something with that verse. I arranged the verse so that it was the trunk of a tree and an abstract design repeated on top as the branches. poster / bookmark: this was one of my first typography projects. We were being taught how to be creative with not only graphics but the text as well. During the same time Matthew West was coming to Las Vegas for a concert. So I took all the information they provided on his website and moved everything around. I tried to use all the information while keeping it simple. The bookmark would be a piece that could be passed out to spread the word about the event, and the poster could be pinned to a wall. music posters: For this project each person was supposed to take a song and design a poster using the lyrics. In the poster on the left it is easy to see that I was focusing more on the graphics. As that semester went on I decided to redesign it. The poster on the right shows how I learned to take a few more risks with the typography.

passport: I really like this design because up close it just looks like lines, but when you pull away you can see the image of an american flag, statue of liberty, eagle, and stars. us stamps: I designed these with my grandfather in mind. The stamp on the right has an actual photograph of my grandfather in his Marine Corps uniform. white paper: this was my first white paper. When designing this I wanted to use the orange from her logo becuase it is more of an optimistic upbeat color. Page 3 and page 5 were also designed to be read on their own as simple posters. newsletter: this newsletter was designed as my first job for the Ignite Academy. It was placed in each folder for the guests as they came to a spring event. hilton worldwide: I spent three months on this project recreating and redesigning the brand identity for Hilton Worldwide. As I designed the logo, stationary, signage, etc. I also designed the menu book for the company. abuelitaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s: this design was taken from a dream of a good family friend of mine. She wants to open a Mexican restaurant someday called Abuelitaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s. The blue, green, and gold wall is actually a wall that would go behind the podium in the entryway. The circle shapes are made up of the bottom of beer bottles and would have water trickling down. The round images are the top and bottom of the main plate, and on teh same page is an example of exterior signage for the restaurant.
