LUGU REGION Lugu Township exploitation was launched in around 1741 (during the 5th and the 6th year of Cianlong years in Cing Dynasty). It was known as Linyipu, possessing nowadays the areas in Jhushan and Lugu. In 1904 (the 8th year before the Republic of China, or during the Japanese colonization), Japanese colonial government set up Jiangzihliao region battle in Shalianbao (a fortress where batteries of artillery troops resided) and named as Jiangzihliao. In 1920, Linyipu was transformed to Lugu manor. In 1945, the government of Republic of China abrogated prefecture system and changed to Lugu Township of Nantou County in 1950.

The administrative division of Lugu Township was established firmly from that moment on practicing until now. In 1955, the total administrative divisions were count up to thirteen villages under a regulation, including Jhushan, Lugu, Jhangya, Guangsing, Neihu, Heya, Jhulin, Jhufong, Fonghuang, Yunglong, Shioufong, Cingshuei, and Rueitian. Lugu Township is located in the southwest part of Nantou county, next to Chenyou River Shueili Township, and Sinyi Township on its east
on its east connected with Jhushan Township on its west and south, and in opposition to Jiji Township across from Jhuoshuei River on its north. The width from east to west reaches 9 kilometers and the length from north to south is approximately 16 kilometers, with total area of 141.89 square kilometers. Lugu Township pertains to the interconnected zone of various landforms as diverse as segmented tableland, hills, and river alluvial with mountains on its north, east, and south areas. Lugu Township has moderate temperature, mild winter and cool summer with subtropical weather. The highest elevation is the Lingtoushan (at the elevation of 2025 meters) and its lowest is at Fonghuang Mountain (at the elevation of 1698 meters). The extended valley of two mountains climbs up from low to high, extending eastwards, forming an incline from south to north in a shape of rectangular.

ABOUT Dongding, is an Oolong tea from Taiwan. The original leaves were taken from a much older tea plant in China’s Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province. Dongding Tea belongs to the low-fermented or moderate-fermented tea. Commonly known as Dongding tea, it is a kind of Taiwanese Baozhong Tea and enjoys a high popularity in Taiwan. This tea meets the most strictly European low pesticide residues standard for agricultural products. Now Dongding Oolong Tea is produced in Taiwanese tea-planting area at an altitude of 1000-1800 meters. “Dongding” refers to the name of the mountain, while “Oolong” indicates the breed. Originally produced in Lugu, Nantou, Taiwan, it is a kind of semifermented tea using Qingxin Oolong as material. It is foggy and rainy in Dongding Mountain. Moreover, the mountain path is rough and difficult to go up. People have to tense toes to climb the mountain, which is commonly called “freezing tiptoe”. This is how Dongding Mountain gets its name. Here comes the tea name “Dongding Oolong Tea”. For many oolong lovers, Dong Ding is considered the premium Taiwanese oolong.

BREWING GUIDE We recommend using Chinese Yixing (purple clay) or porcelain tea ware. Rinse tea cup and teapot with hot water. Fill the teapot 1/4 to 1/3 full with tea leaves, or 2 grams of tea leaves for every 150ml of water if you are not using Yixing teapot. Steep tea leaves in hot water at 100째c (212째F) for 1 minute for the first and second brewing. Gradually increase steeping time for subsequent brewing.
