Youth at Heart

Youth at Heart is a children’s group home that was collaboratively designed to improve the daily lives of children that do not have a home. The project aims to make the children feel safed, welcomed and comfortable through various experiences that would mark their life forever. The goal is that children find love , and happiness in this home, and create beautiful memories that would stay in their heart for a lifetime. The project is located in a former ranch near Crowley, in a very mountainous site, with beautiful views. The project aims to take in consideration the beautiful site by having spaces for views and peaceful moments with the two terraces located on each end of the building. These terrace spaces become a moment of relaxation, reflection, meditation, and peace for the children. As much as children enjoy relaxing, most of the time they want to play. For that reason, we incorporated a recreational space located at the heart of the building. This space includes a basketball court, playground, and dance hall. This space is meant to create beautiful experiences that involve laughter, playing, running, jumping, dancing, and joy.It is scientifically proven that physical activity makes a child happy and that is the purpose of this recreational space. It is located at the center so it is easily accessible to the four modules surrounding it. The center is the main attraction to the four individual modules.

Serene Gardens

Our site is located next to the Amtrak train station. The project is a hybrid building; the program includes a hostel, train station and library. My proposed idea is to create connection points that would bring these three programs together while also bringing together the people of Houston and tourists. It would be assumed that for having a train station near, the site would be very active but it’s completely the opposite. The site feels very abandoned, it lacks vegetation and activity. The train station needs a tourist attraction that brings life to that area in Houston. My project strives to create a connection between the residential area in the north of Houston to the industrial/commercial area in the south by creating a communal bridge that connects both areas. Our site feels abandoned and quiet, it needs a tourist attraction that gathers the attention of tourists/ travelers and the community of Houston. With that intention , I decided to use nature as a tool to bring life to this boring area in Houston. My project is flooded with a butterfly garden located on the second floor and the ground floor (entrance) of the building.

Planes in Sight Community Center

Planes in sight is a community center located in Houston, Texas. The project includes a basketball court, library, classrooms, roof garden, and a cafe. The facade intends to give the community center a light and transparent feeling. The abstracted floating planes play an important role in creating a sense of delicacy, minimalism, and purity to the building. The intention is that the building transpires a sense of peacefulness to the residents. With its delicate facade, Planes in Sight community center intends to become a stress- free environment that brings peace to its residents. Moreover, with the same purpose, the program includes a roof garden that allows residents to socialize, admire the views of downtown, and have a moment with nature.

Communion Multi-Unit House

Communion is a multi-unit house that aims to bring the community together. The site is located in Houston, Texas, and is surrounded by schools, apartment complexes, and parks. The site is located in a very active multi-cultural town and it encourages a need for a communal space that could bring the community together. The design concept of the project is that the residents are able to connect, bond, and create memories through the art of cooking. The kitchen is a place for spending time with your loved ones, a time of laughter and cooking together. In this multi-unit house , the residents share a communal kitchen that allows them to interact with one another. Each unit has an entry and also a view from upstairs of the kitchen. The kitchen is also connected to an outside patio that allows residents to have more space to socialize outdoors.
