and memorable event. Popular locations require advance booking usually six months to a year before the wedding date. Most require a 50 percent deposit when you reserve them with the balance due seven to 10 days before the event. Refundable security deposits are usually required, and some facilities may request a special liability insurance policy. In selecting a unique reception site, consider the different restrictions regarding food, alcohol, smoking, music and hours of operation. Some locations may require that you use an in-house caterer or one chosen from a preferred list. Some sites will provide tables and chairs, but many require that you or your caterer provide your own furniture, as well as linens and china. Check the kitchen facilities as many sites have only a small kitchen or require that caterers bring a tent for food set up and service. Keep in mind that not all unique sites will allow you to have your reception inside the facility. Often historic homes are available for your guests to tour, but the event itself must

sure to include money in your budget for a tent to accommodate your guests in case of rain. Make sure your special site is appropriate for your wedding needs and fits your unique style. A historic home may not be able to accommodate hundreds of guests while a formal museum might not be right for a very casual wedding.

Whether due to health reasons or a lifestyle choice, it’s important for the bride and groom, the dinner party hosts, to accommodate their guests. Luckily, wedding and event caterers are keeping up with the times, offering plenty of scrumptious meals to suit all palates. Sometimes a special diet is the result of an allergy or health consideration, such as a nut allergy or celiac disease (gluten intolerance). For other folks, a special diet is a lifestyle choice. SELECTING THE PERFECT NECKLINE

sweetheart

This heart shaped strapless look is a perfect option for fuller chested brides as it accentuates the décolletage. Shorter brides look good in this heart shape as it makes the torso appear longer.

halter

The halter wraps around the neck exposing a bride’s shoulders. This look is best on taller brides who have broader shoulders.

v-neck

The V-neckline can range from a simple, modest V shape sitting just below the collarbone to a deep, sexy plunge. This look is best for the average busted girl. The larger the chest, the smaller the V.

30 • PREMIER BRIDE

off-the-shoulder

An off the shoulder gown creates the perfect silhouette to flatter collarbones, shoulders, and upper arms. This neckline is especially attractive on medium to full chested women.

illusion

The illusion neckline features a strapless gown with either a sweetheart, straight or curved neckline with a sheer fabric covering the décolletage to the neck. Most illusions form a halter or bateau line, but give the appearance of a strapless.

bateau

The gentle curve of the bateau neck follows the shape of the collarbone almost to the shoulders. This shape is especially good for petite brides with lovely collarbones.

ENGRAVED FOREVER

WEDDING ACCESSORIES

guidelines to engraving

innovative engraved ideas

There are many guidelines for engraving. Traditionally, the first names of the couple, beginning with the woman’s name, are followed by the wedding date underneath. With this type of message, the individual names are usually larger. Space determines whether you use the word “and” or the ampersand (&). Traditional monograms include the woman’s first initial followed by the couple’s last initial in the center (engraved in a larger size) and followed by the man’s first initial. For a special, extra-sentimental touch, many customers may select a short message such as “congratulations” or a short poem.

B

• Picture frames and toasting glasses are innovative alternatives to standard keepsakes like cake toppers and vases. • Culinary keepsakes can include candy trays or chocolate roses that rise out of personalized wrappings. • Bubbly options are small engraved bottles of wines or liquors which can be purchased by the case. • Write a poem and imprint it on scrolls, napkins or matchbooks. • Rose buds full of rice or birdseed can be porcelain or ceramic, or custom-fired with your names and wedding date in gold. • Your personal message etched into glassware, brass, pewter or silver plating.

At the end, it’s put together into a video and everyone receives a copy. One fun way to really spice up the photos is to supply props like goofy hats, accessories, or fake mustaches for guests to poke around with. A chalkboard or dry erase board is also fun so family and friends can doodle a special message or sentiment and capture it on film. A giant, decorative frame is another fun prop to create the picturewithin-a-picture look. Choose a rental you can really customize! Ask for matching the colors to your wedding or add your names or the date to a sign at the top of the photo. No matter how basic it is, your family members and loved ones’ smiling faces will make it a truly personal memory!

FLOWERS defining your day Through decades of evolving wedding traditions and styles, certain things remain constant like a bride’s white dress and gorgeous flowers to adorn the day. Although a reception is optional, micro weddings will always need an officiant, witnesses, and a location for the ceremony. This could be someone’s backyard, the courthouse, a park or garden — the list goes on. Almost always, micro-wedding couples still spring for a photographer. There are even vendors taking the micro wedding and really running with it. Some venues offer packages for a set price that include use of their space, an officiant, a photographer, seasonal floral, and more.
