Integration of nature into the space is also another important factors on the development of the space. This is for the users to experience feeling more ‘fresh’ and simply more ‘alive’ with the additions of nature into the space as humans are said to be ‘biophilia’. The space is designed like this, the staffs can easily discuss problem-friendly environment withlesive design which also demonstrate the use of design elements and principles. A fusion between the two ideas create a concept where the users can relax, play and work as well as exhange ideas at ease and the way the space is planned which is suitable for a design office.

he aim is to create a commercial a leading Interior Design Firm in Singapore; Creative box which will be located at the 6th floor of 100PP Building at 100 Pasir Panjang, Singapore. The client specifically wants something new and fresh for their new interior design office. So, the concept of the space is influenced greatly by the firm’s name; Creative Box. This specifically means that the space will be divided into ‘boxes’ meaning it will be split into many areas which are use for various purposes such as the designers’ workshops and others. The idea is to create individual areas open to one another depending on the level of privacy require and achieve ‘a space within a space’.

PROPOSAL

The pantry is designed to be fun and here the concept of ‘box’ is strongly integrated to the design of the area. The idea and use of wood strips are also still being played here. Actually, this box concept for the staffs’ lounge which has a mezzanine on top of it is actually greatly inspired by the idea of a treehouse. There’s a ladder in which one could climb onto and step into the second level. This design is perfect for relaxation. 10

‘LAYERS’ OF PLAYFULNESS ACE SALON LOCATION: SINGAPORE, #01-01, #02-01-03, Mandarin Gallery, 333A Orchard road,238997 TOTAL UNIT(S) AREA: 410 SQM

T

he plan was to design a nail spafor a recognised leader in professional spa;Ace Salon. The newest outlet to be designed is located at Mandarin Gallery, Orchard road, Singapore. The client desired a look that is fresh and different in a way that it gives an experience like no other in Singapore. To response to this, the proposal is to add new services such that you won’t usually find in a nail spa. The main target market for this spa is for PMEBs and then another targetted market is towards undergraduates and home makers. The concept that is suggested is to create a whole new kind of experience that is innovative, stylish and at the same time playful. In order to fit this category, concept of ‘casino’ is applied.

Casino defines playfulness, opulency and grand. The design is not about making casino as a theme but more of an experience such as the lottery area in form of a slot machine and roulette table in form of a lucky draw. The spatial context is greatly influenced by shapes of elements found in casino such as poker chips, cards, roulette and others that are round and organic in shape. It’s about taking these little details to reality rather than taking it literally. Last but not least, colour scheme is inspired greatly by the french card which is white, black and red.

Since the beginning of the planning, the idea is to make it ‘welcoming’. According to research, making it organic feels more dynamic and accepting. Thus organic shapes is the main point of the planning and the design as well. H

It matches with the main concept; ‘casino experience’ by bringing the shapes into layers mimicking the cards and the chips used for the games.

T

he project was to design a trade show booth space with approximate 36 sqm and height of 2.5 m and the booth itself will be an island booth with 4 openings in which the DSG brand needs to be branded into the booth showing showcase of the cruise design business. The concept for this project is inspired greatly by DSG’s vision: “Global Interior Fit-out Partner of Choice.” Simply, the vision means that they’re capable of designing with versatility and universally. So, this makes the idea of using kaleidoscope born. Kaleidoscope is an optical device with mirror bits inside of it. The device has endless designs that can change endlessly by simply rotating it.

To go deeper, the word is derived from the Greek; Kalos which means beautiful, eïdos which means for form and skopeïn; to view. In short, the name means ‘to view beautiful forms’. The design is not just about functionality, the idea is to create something innovative but at the same time aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, kaleidoscope is used as the booth concept to reflect DSG’s vision and to keep providing ‘beautiful forms’ for the clients. Besides the booth design itself, the client also requested a proposal of the cruise interior design as well. This is shown in the showcase area and the proposal is to integrate an interactive screen inside the space.

CRUISE INTERIOR SHOWCASE PROPOSAL

The idea here is to create a very simple and minimalistic cruise interior while still fulfiling all the basic requirements to design one.The room proposed is a prototype of rooms without windows. The aim is to integrate fullheight interactive screen in a way that the users can change it to whatever scenery and mood they’re in.

‘5 SENSES’ & INTERACTIVE DE-SUNK LOCATION: VENICE, Campo Santo Stefano, 30124 Venezia VE TOTAL UNIT(S) AREA: 93.6 SQM

I

n regards to a significance in Venice, the designers are to speak up to the public upon the sinking city of Venice due to over-tourism. DE-SUNK pavilion presents the result of 3-designers’ research into a modest answer in relation to the sinking Venice. Located at Campo Santo Stefano, San Marco, DE-SUNK pavilion exhibits 5 other islands of Venetian Lagoon with consideration to multi-sensorial experience that is open to public yet mainly aims towards tourists, running as a guiding device that there are plenty of other wonderful lagoons out there. The human’s senses are used as the main idea as they’re the core elements of what makes a ‘human’ human.

The 3-designers integrate the 5 human’s senses experience inside the space that are both mesmeric yet represents the 5 chosen lagoons (Vignole, Murano, Isola di San Michele, Sant’Erasmo, San Lazzaro degli Armeni). The whole structure is parted into 5 different spaces in relation to the 5 human’s senses and the 5 Venetian Lagoons with semi-enclosed facade, and sheltered exhibitions inside. To summarise, the significance of this project is to encourage tourists to visit other islands in the Venetian map and also to respect the campaign of #RESPECTENJOYVENEZIA.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT Influenced greatly by Venice’s foundation. Venice is a ‘man-made’ city, it is made to float and in order to float, it has a foundation. These are made out of wood (platforms + stakes).
