Beverly’sTreasure ByKobeRansome
Beverly sits and eats his everything bagel with his cup of tea in the same spot, as he does this he’s also sketching people sitting around the coffee shop dissecting and observing every intricate detail he can find on their features. Saint comes into the coffee shop from working out and orders himself something, as he is waiting he sees Beverly, the most gorgeous boy he’s ever seen in his life. So he asks the barista “Who’s that?”
the barista responds and says, “That’s Beverly, he’s a regular around here”
The barista see’s the look in Saints eye and says, “Don’t even think about it, the boy has short term memory loss. He won’t remember you tomorrow”
Without a second thought about what the barista said, Saint doesn’t hesitate and he introduces himself to Beverly despite the warning he got from the barista.
Over the next few months Saint re-introduces himself to Beverly everyday at the same spot and the two go on a new adventure and their love continuously unfolds, until one day Beverly is not in the coffee shop. Saint asks the barista where he is and the barista looks at him with sad eyes and tells him he got brought to the emergency room.
Saint immediately rushes to the hospital and searches for Beverly. When he gets inside and finds Beverly laying on the bed and connected to a breathing machine with his journal right next to him. A nurse comes in and checks in on Beverly, as she is in there Saint asks what happened to Beverly, the nurse responds by saying it was a bad car accident she then places a cup of water on the table, and leaves out and leaves the two with one another.
Beverly, not sure of who Saint is, is confused and scared, Saint notices that Beverly’s journal is open and he sees sketches of himself and the many adventures he and Beverly took on their short period of being with one another. Saint shows Beverly the book and does everything in his power to convince Beverly he knows him. It takes a while however eventually Beverly’s eyes widen and he just hugs Saint as tight as his fragile body can, but slowly his body loses its strength in the hug.
In the end Beverly leaves behind his journal and everlasting love for Saint inside of it. Saint is broken hearted and in grief however Saint finds closure in Beverly’s book where all their memories and introductions remain forever treasured.

Story Inspiration:
The inspiration behind “Beverly’s Treasure”, This story was inspired by a list of love stories that I have read. I wanted something that wasn’t too long or short, and I used the beginning of the movie “Up” to use that inspiration. The scene where we get to know Carl and Ellie from a young age up until the point of Ellie’s death. I wanted to emulate that feel of connectivity that we felt towards those characters in such a short period of time and project it onto my story and my characters in “Beverly’s Treasure”
“50 First Dates” is also a big part of inspiration from this story. With Henry being Saint and Lucy being Beverly. Saint does everything he can to prove his love for Beverly as does Henry in “50 First Dates”
Overall this short story represents the LGBTQ+ community as well as african americans who tend to be underrepresented in many stories. I hope to continue seeing many stories such as mine in the media so that many people can grow to feel the love, the greatness & the goodness that comes from being represented in the media.
