Sensations ‘Clarity’
Sensations – Clarity Fragility, innocence and purity symbolises my A/W15 capsule collection ‘Clarity’. One influence of this collection is the cut out of lace; this collection will feature a lot of cuts and slits into fabrics. The cuts in the fabrics represent the fragility associated to the collection. White, baby powder white and floral white will be the main colours in conjunction with this collection. The poem ‘White’ by MarvelManiac defines white as clear and pure which inspired the title of my collection ‘Clarity’. From my stand work (with cuts falling into drapes); I decided to take the fragile cuts of drapes forward for investigation. I looked at Junya Watanabe’s S/S14 collection which ties in really well with my inspiration. I’ve gone on to explore this idea by sampling. I achieved my samples by cutting stripes into the chiffon to create very soft feminine drapes. Also, the drapes have a good connection to my concept from the previous semester (re-re project). The silhouette for this collection will be simple as the details will be the main objective. As the cuts falls into beautiful draping; I will be experimenting with scale and lengths of cuts and drapes. I’m using delicate fabrics like chiffon and organza as part of my fabric choices. I want the delicacy of the fabrics to reflect purity, innocence and fragility. Jersey is also amongst my fabrics; due to the stretch it creates beautiful draping. Feminine, coy and naïve are the qualities of this season’s girl. Fashion concussion, this season’s girl keeps it simple with exaggerated detailing.

All Walks beyond the Catwalk – Diversity Now Love the skin you’re in. Diversity should be celebrated. As a creative individual, it is essential to broaden one’s horizon and look at the fashion industry with a different perspective and I aspire to translate the acceptance of diversity through my S/S16 sportswear inspired collection. Skin is an outer layer of all humankind and embracing all skin types is diverse. Vitiligo is a diverse skin type, with light shades of patches on the skin. It creates fascinating and beautiful patterns on the body.
All Walks Beyond The CatwalkDiversity Now
I aim to convey the influenced by the patches of vitiligo skin through the medium of fabrication. Following a neutral colour palette consisting of white, black, sky grey and pale blue, I will experiment with prints to create a ‘splashed like effect’ while aiming to achieve the various shades of colour inspired by vitiligo. As the collection is aimed at all walks of life, (gender, age, and race) consequently, the silhouette of this collection will be oversized to fit each individual regardless of your body type or height. Neoprene and scuba will act as base fabrics as they can attain the structure of my silhouette.

English Eccentrics Jennifer Twumasi For Grace & Mabel
English Eccentrics Jennifer Twumasi for Grace and Mabel ‘A timeless classic’ My main objective for this project is to identify the brief; ‘English eccentrics. Hence, my investigation of an English classic, the trench coat. I’m fascinated that a military garment has become fashionable and seen in almost every catwalk show. I want to take inspiration from the details of the trench coat and play around with this ideology. Misplacement of epaulettes, exaggerated storm pockets, and multiple sleeve straps are few designs to expect from this collection. Silhouettes will be kept to a minimal with overstated detailing. The colour palette for this collection will be warm tones like ivory, lupin pink and honeysuckle cream. Sophistication, elegance and class are the epitome of this season’s woman. Stylish and fashion conscious she adores contemporary twists on classic pieces.

INTERTWINE AW15/16 Drapes, wraps, layers and folds play a significant part in my concept. This project is inspired by two completely different cultures. One influence is from Ghana where my family originated from, and how traditionally the men’s clothing is a huge piece of fabric wrapped over them several times. My other influence is the traditional Japanese garment the kimono. I love the draping and wrapping of these two garments and look forward to exploring these two cultures. I believe the marriage of these two garments would be exquisite as they are contrasting yet intriguing. My main concentration would be on the movement and shapes formed from the drapes and how they can be exaggerated and manipulated for a contemporary look. I intend to introduce ethicality in my collection through the medium of fabrication. I will be reusing scraps of old African fabrics. Quirky and self assured, this season’s woman is a trend setter. Her style is vastly influenced on her love for travelling and exploring different cultures. Thrives on making bold statements, this season’s woman absolutely loves exaggerated silhouettes and cuts. Irish green, French mustard and ivory will be colours
