MICHIGAN AVE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER Chicago, IL

The movements of the Performing Arts Center were in response to the river and the buildings already on the site. It pulls off the Chicago River and weaves around the Equitable Building and the Tribune Tower. There are three major elements to the Michigan Ave Performing Arts Center; the stone nodes that house the theaters, the metal paneling that wraps the theaters and contains the circulations through the space, and the glazing which makes up the voids between the other two.

The stone nodes cut through the first floor of retail space where some of the stone tesselations are replaced with glass panels to allow for the shoppers to get a glance at backstage activities. There are three theaters, each at a different scale to accommodate different performances. The circulation that begins at the river, follows the east spine of the building and ramps up to each level of seating. The images for my final presentation were done entirely by hand using pencil, pen and charcoal after working in Maya and Rhino to create a massing model.

MODEL MAKING

This model was done for client presentation of a confidential project at Gensler for a new corporate headquarters and campus. I worked on a team with two other interns. We began by referencing site surveys and Revit files of the proposal to recreate a simplified 3D digital model in Rhino. This file was then use to create cut-sheets for topography, context buildings, floor plates, cores and facades which were then laser cut. The base and context buildings were done is chipboard and spray painted while the featured buildings were made of acrylic with the mullion system etched into the facades.

POOL HOUSE AND SPA TECTONICS STUDY

The program of the pool house contained required a sauna, plunge pool, large pool, rest rooms and changing rooms. Each pool is connected to create a fluid mass of water. While entry and public spaces float above the water, all private rooms are located underneath the pool. I modeled the pool in Rhino but rendered by hand using pencil and charcoal.

WALNUT HILLS COMPETITION Cincinnati, OH

FIREHOUSE ROW ULI hosted the Walnut Hills-based competition fall 2014, for this I worked in collaboration with planning students Anna Barchick-Suter, Greg Sanders and real estate student David Dickson. Firehouse Row in Walnut Hills serves growing populations moving to urban areas in Greater Cincinnati. The site and spaces provide prospective buyers and renters great access to an up and coming neighborhood while providing enough space for the downsizing empter-nester all the way to the college students and young professionals joining the work forces or starting families. Within my team I created the Revit model and AutoCAD drawings. I rendered using Autodesk Cloud Rendering, Photoshop and InDesign. existing site proposed site plan

A mix of townhomes, condos, apartments, retail and office space make Firehouse Row a new complement to the rest that Walnut Hills has to offer.

CLIFTON LITERARY CENTER

Cincinnati, OH

The goal of this project was to create a library program and fully develop a design for a literary center to sit in the historic neighborhood of Ludlow in Cincinnati. Through this assignment I created very fluid and open program to open the center to the surrounding community. My renderings were composed by hand and done in pencil then taken into Adobe Photoshop.
