PARALLEL
The location of the space is the quad area in front of the Industrial building at San Jose State University. The idea the designer had for creating a series of vertical parallel planes was to connect with a horizontal surface, allowing people to flow through the space. How she created the different spaces was through analyzing the area. The two analysis are sunrise through sunset, and traffic flow. With these analysis it created multiple sections in the space for variety of parties such as an individual or a groups.

INTERIOR PERSPECTIVE
Incorporated onto the second floor of San Jose State University the Hermitage purpose is to study, relax, or reflect. By creating solids, the 10’-0”L X 8’-0”W X 9’-0”H cube was to be subtracted. In addition, the solid forms used for the hermitage were horizontal shapes reflecting to the site analysis and how a horizontal space creates relaxation.

Each individual analysis is incorporated into the design. The Horizontal analysis is the reflection of the resting areas and the horizantal placed materials within the space. The viewpoint analysis is the interaction of the people who view the space below. The third analysis is traffic, and how crowded it can be during certain times of the day.

Continuing with the concept of the dragonfly, the designer chose the cell membrane of the Dragonfly. On the tessellations it shows the concept of the cell membrane. For the tile, the chosen shape is a puzzle piece. Each tile has different depth and thickness. (Tile one Thinnest membrane structure and thickest membrane structure is tile three).
