Bellamy’s Bivouac 2013/14

Greenland 2013 The Arctic was again my destiny in August when Torben Sorensen and myself went on a sketching expedition to South Greenland in search of some of the world’s most spectacular mountains. We were not disappointed, and at times were ringed in a 360 -degree panorama of shapely summits, wondering where to start sketching. We based the trip on the stunning Tasermiut fjord which is about fifty miles long with mountainsides rising steeply straight out of the water in many places, and hired an inflatable zodiac to get around. Neither of us were nautical types, but we managed, even though the boat did have a hole in the bottom, so baling out did rather interfere with a number of sketches. Even the weather was kind to us this time: hot sunshine day after day and quite a lot of cloud, which added immensely to the atmosphere as much of it was in the form of cloud streamers which meant that the peaks often lay partly hidden. Despite midges, the camping was almost dreamlike, with memories of laying in the evening sunshine at the end of a day, having returned with a bagful of sketches, scratches and superlative recollections of the sublime scenery.
Rescuing Watercolours Ever wondered what to do with all those watercolour paintings that didn’t quite work out? David’s latest DVD will show you how to rescue your paintings from disaster and improve those that did not quite work. The DVD is 86 minutes long and includes live demonstrations of rescue techniques followed by a number of slides with commentary showing many different approaches to recovering from a watercolour catastrophe.
