Jerard Yu | Landscape Architectural Technology Greetings, This is a Portfolio I compiled to showcase my favourite works throughout my time studying LAT at NAIT. This contains works ranging from exercises to final deliverables to give spectators a general idea to the standards I create for myself regarding quality of work. For more than a quarter of my schooling at NAIT I spent overseas in Philippines, therefore some of my works are in a tropical context. Though demanding, my time spent in the Philippines during the school year has been transformational for me personally and academically. I have created this portfolio in a manner that best reflects both my personality and character. Thank you for taking the time to show your interest. Be well.

Camp Kuriakos Project A final deliverable for (Design Studio: Large Spaces) requires a design of an acquired land for a campsite. Part of the design program required camping amenities such as a campsite, a 10 Km trail, an amphitheater, A natural playground, etc. It is important to consider inflicting the least amount of environmental impact for this project. Implementing more naturalized mix and trees are both highly encouraged for this project.

Bus Shelter Design For this project part of the task was to conduct a site visit for a bus shelter, and ultimately create a new design. This design was done in a tropical setting. The main selling point were the swings which caters to the “Siesta” / Mid-day Nap concept of the Filipino culture. This was implemented to bring ease and relaxation for those coming from and going to their daily commutes. Apart from focusing on locally available materials this also helps boost acknowledgment to the gradual disappearance of Filipino customs especially in the urbanized areas.

Islet Lake Community Centre The task was to create a Community Centre that focuses on disciplines such as Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. Students are introduced to the ways of design process involving all the different disciplines and must eventually produce a design that is functional, aesthetic, and adhering to standards.

Entry Feature Construction Package For Technical Drawings, this is a design of an Entry Feature supposedly for Blatchford Neighborhood Community, a NAIT affiliation. The deliverable asked of was a construction package. Covering the essential items, down to the smallest details. The design intent is to create something simple yet convincing, robust aesthetically and structurally. This was also a great learning experience to always utilize materials. Often when aesthetics are concerned the focus shifts too much on the form and materials second. For this design package both were prioritized equally.

San Marino Park This assignment is another activity that intends to further help with the familiarization of the design process. From site visits, base plan, site inventory and analysis, form and composition, preliminary master plan, along with a final master plan and 3d Renderings. In this assignment I decided to do everything with hand render for speed and efficiency, while actively trying to maintain professional standards. This is a food park design that lies in the center of surrounding neighborhoods and a traffic circle, one that many business startups can greatly benefit from.

Cisco Design Competition A Project done by a Team consisting of two LAT, one IDT, one Alternative Energy, and one IT. The goal was to design a Community Hub Learning Centre integrated with latest sustainable features and technology. A Landscape attached with technological features was a heavy priority for this project. Part of LAT’s contribution as well were the Year round Modular Study Pods. A collaborative work between the IDT and LAT also took place in order to accomplish the Site Building.

Trellis and Park Project As an introduction to SketchUp, Students were first assigned to follow instructions to design their own Trellis, from 3d Massing to making groups and components, to finally integrating the final Trellis design to a park. The Park can only distance from 10mx10m and have a set number of coniferous and deciduous trees.

Hand Rendered Sketches Students are presented with a series of incomplete drawings. With the materials, shadows, plantings, colours, and other entourage elements left to be finished. These exercises are intended to help with getting used to drawing with perspective in mind and to get used rendering with markers all to be done in within a reasonable amount of time.

Part of my hobbies and interests aside from gardening, doing outdoor activities such as sports and hikes, is truly immersing myself into multimedia arts. Visual arts is an interest of mine that I’m often more than happy to showcase to people. It is mainly my curiosity trait that further fuels the creative ideas that I embark on. These are some of my works ranging from pencil sketching/drawings to acrylic painting, logo making, illustrations. g, and Digital illustra ations. ations
