A Historical Accomplishment The opening of Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton on April 1, 2015 marked a historical moment in Northeast Georgia Health System history as well as the State of Georgia. As the state’s first net-new hospital in almost 20 years, NGMC Braselton brought the award winning services of the State’s #1 hospital closer to home. Prior to the opening of NGMC Braselton, Medical Plaza B opened its doors in January 2015, housing 11 physician offices, representing 10 specialties, in addition to diagnostic cardiology services and cardiac rehabilitation. More than 5000 community members enthusiastically participated in the open house event held just prior to NGMC Braselton’s opening.
Emergency Services Residents of Braselton and the communities surrounding the new hospital have taken advantage of the new emergency services provided by NGMC Braselton. In the first 12 months, more than 32,000 patients received care in the Emergency Department.

Heart Services Both inpatient and outpatient cardiology services were also highly anticipated in Braselton. Since April 1, 2015, more than 26,000 cardiovascular tests and procedures have been performed at NGMC Braselton. In addition, Cardiac Rehabilitation saw more than 4,300 visits for education, exercise and emotional support.
Surgery and Procedures With 26 prep and recovery rooms, seven operating rooms, two GI/ Endoscopy suites, and a 12-bed Postoperative Acute Care Unit, or PACU, Surgical Services at NGMC Braselton have been very busy during their first year. More than 3,200 procedures have been performed, including: Anterior Hip Replacement Knee Replacement Percutaneous Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Gastric Bypass Mastectomy Spine Surgery Elective Surgeries and Plastics Procedures Vascular Surgery NGMC Braselton also celebrated the addition of the latest robotic technology, the da Vinci Xi Surgical System in June. Since then more than 176 surgeries have been performed with the new robot.

Patient Care In the first 12 months, the nursing staff in the inpatient care units at NGMC Braselton have provided care to more than 4,100 patients.
Café 1400 Known for its fresh recipes and locally grown ingredients, Café 1400 quickly became a favorite spot for locals in addition to patients, family and staff at NGMC Braselton. Since its opening on January 12, 2015, the café has served more than 165,000 customers through the café and prepared more than 40,000 meals for hospital patients.

Commitment to Safety NGMC Braselton opened with the majority of staff trained in Error Prevention Tools (EPT) as part of NGHS’ commitment to Patient Safety and High Reliability Science. By April 1, 2016, 92% of staff members in Braselton were trained. Since opening its doors, NGMC Braselton had 0 catheter-associated urinary tract infections and 0 central line-associated bloodstream infections. Braselton Security Services hosted an Emergency Management Table Top Exercise involving 67 different agencies from across the state in attendance to prepare for disaster situations that may arise.
Comprehensive Cancer Care With the opening of NGMC Braselton, surgery options and infusion services for cancer patients were added to medical oncology and hematology services already offered on the campus. In November 2015, NGMC Braselton celebrated the opening of a new Radiation Therapy facility in Medical Plaza 1, completing the continuum of cancer care close to home for area patients. Since then, staff in Radiation Therapy have provided care during more than 2500 visits to the facility.

The Medical Center Auxiliary The support of The Medical Center Auxiliary has been vital to the success of NGMC Braselton. Since the opening of NGMC Braselton, 205 volunteers have given 16,000 hours of service, which is equivalent to 8 FTEs and a value of $369,120 to the organization. These volunteers have greeted patients, given tours, escorted families, staffed the Windows Shop, and so much more. The Inaugural Love Light Tree Lighting Celebration at NGMC Braselton was held on December 1, 2015 with over 325 in attendance.
Award Winning Care NGMC was rated Georgia’s #1 Hospital for the second consecutive year according to a study by Care Chex. The same study rated NGMC #2 in the nation – sandwiched between other industry icons like Mayo Clinic (flagship campus in Rochester, Minn.) and University of Michigan Health System. NGMC Braselton was also named Best Hospital by readers of Gwinnett Magazine. Consumer polling shows that awareness and preference for NGMC Braselton is strong, with 72% of Greater Braselton residents citing it as their hospital of choice.

Continued Growth Just one month after opening its doors, NGMC Braselton began construction on a $16 million project to bring obstetric services to the Braselton community. Set to open in October 2016, the new labor and delivery unit will include 10 labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) suites, two operating rooms, a nursery and reception and waiting areas. On August 12, 2015, members of the community joined NGMC Braselton staff to celebrate the opening of the 240’ long River Place Bridge connecting the Main and West portions of the NGMC Braselton campus.
The Medical Center Foundation Creating more than just an exceptional medical center. The inaugural fundraising campaign through The Medical Center Foundation will benefit projects that can only happen through philanthropy and blend the art of healing with traditional medicine to create the ultimate healing environment – a destination of hope, healing and wellness. $300,159 raised by The Medical Center Foundation to benefit NGMC Braselton campaign since hospital opened on April 1, 2015, for a total raised to date of over $2.2 million.

Healing for the mind, body and soul Original artworks from almost 60 local artists are a part of the collection at NGMC Braselton. The collection brings another local touch to the community hospital and provides a beautiful environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Community education and wellness events have been a focus for NGMC Braselton. In the first twelve months, more than 104 classes and events have been hosted at NGMC Braselton. These have ranged from intimate seminars and support groups to a large health fair attended by more than 4,000 people. In all more than 7,000 people have visited the campus to participate in one of these events.
