UCSF School of Medicine Ranks in U.S. News Best Graduate School'

For the 10th year in a row, UC San Francisco’s School of Medicine placed in the top five nationally in a recent U.S. News & World Report survey of best graduate and professional schools. This is a high distinction that deserves special recognition, as UCSF was the only medical school to rank in the top five in the entire country in areas of primary care and research. Specifically, it ranked third in primary care education and fifth in biomedical research.

UCSF is near and dear to Dr. Faustino Bernadett, who is a proud alumnus of the University of California, San Francisco (U.C.S.F.) School of Medicine. In addition to being a former UC San Francisco Board Overseer, he is a UCSF Campaign Donation Supporter and creator of a UCSF scholarship in honor of his father, Faustino Bernadett, Sr. In 2015, Bernadett was awarded the “Top 150 Alumni of UCSF for the Last 150 years” by U.C.S.F. To celebrate UCSF’s 150th anniversary, the Alumni Board honored 150 of its brightest and best with an Alumni Excellence Award, with nominations based on excellence and distinction within the major tenets of UCSF’s mission: research, education, patient care, service, business and industry. On top of that, Faustino Bernadett established the Faustino and Martha Molina Bernadett Presidential Chair for Education in the UCSF School of Medicine and they invested their time and attention to the future of medicine, particularly as it pertains to solving the world’s most critical health issues. During Dr. Bernadett’s time on the board, UCSF launched a landmark $5B fundraising campaign -- the largest-ever university campaign focusing solely on driving innovation in medicine. This latter category is being ranked for the first time this year. Medical education at UCSF is focused on empowering students to advance science and seek new ways to improve health care delivery. This creates and fosters an environment whereby students can individualize clinical and scientific learning to support their career paths, whatever those may be. The UCSF School of Nursing also ranked high, placing 18th among nursing master’s degree programs. It was picked out of more than 200 schools across the nation. Indeed, the School of Nursing has consistently ranked among the top nursing schools country-wide when it comes to competitive NIH research funding. This is due to the modernization of its academic programs, increased enrollment and enhancement of clinical integration. UCSF and Dr. Bernadett: A Continuing Tradition

Dr. Bernadett and his wife Martha created the Faustino Bernadett, Sr. Scholarship at UCSF to help young aspiring doctors and medical professionals realize their dream of attending one of the best colleges in the area. To that end, the Bernadetts gave $100,000 to endow a scholarship in honor of Faustino Bernadett, Sr. for Spanish-speaking medical students. Faustino also encouraged his UCSF classmates to contribute through matching funds, adding $140,000 for the scholarship. The Bernadetts also donated $100,000 to name the Tino & Martha Bernadett Lounge in the UCSF Mission Bay Community Center, which serves as the social hub of the center. Dr. Bernadett was also an active member of the steering committee of the U.C.S.F. PRIME program, comprised of medical students committed to working with urban underserved communities. As you can see, Dr. Faustino remains heavily invested in UCSF and does all he can to support its causes. To learn more, visit https://www.bernadett.org/.
