Design Philosophy

I believe that designing does not only matter to one party but involves both the client and the designer. With this said it is important to work with the client closely. In this case, it is also a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge so as to provide the client with the best advice and design. In addition, it improves my ability to better express my ideas which then allows me to come up with a wonderful and successful design. Most importantly, it is to design something that benefits the people. Incorporating sustainability, eco design and functionality into my design is also one of the top priority as it affects the design process. Therefore, it is my responsibility to design something that satisfy the client‘s or user needs.

Project brief

Inspiration:Kampong house

Creating a modern kampong that targets everyone - all age group, through the inspiration of kampong. As years goes by, the spirit of kampong in singapore died down as most of the Singaporeans now stay in HDB where interactions got lesser, almost none within the neighbours. With the proposed design, it provides adventure games, learning and reading corner, which promotes interactions among the neighbours. Through this, it can also become the centre point of the neighbourhood.

Carpark ventilation

It provide benefits for humans. Having vertical green wall helps to reduce the heat in the carpark

Rainwater are collected in the bioswale and will be reuse to water the plants in order to save water

A place to have a overall view of the neighourhood. In addition rooftop garden helps to cool the HDB block.

Carparks are usually humid, stuffy and poor ventilated, therefore the proposed design consist of carpark ventilation where wind and natural sunlight gets into the building.

Site analysis

Our site is located South-East of Singapore; Kallang. It is known for as sports area as the National stadium is located there. the kallang river stretches from marina bay to ang mo kio.

Area around the site consist of competitive sports

16

Xtreme Unordinary

Potential elements on site that could be used in skate park

Potential water activities that could be integratedWW into the design

Buildings to be remained for its memories

Site condition

Our located site consist of Singapore Dragon Boat association and NPCC building. The buildings are mostly abandoned. However it couldn’t be demolished as it is preserved. in addtion, the area is segregated from the kallang wave mall and inaccessible to people. Only the dragonboat association is in used.

Project brief

The surrounding context of our site consist of National sports hub which is filled with comppetitive sports such as swimming, basketball, volleybal, etc. It is an opportunity to implement a non-competition sports around the area to bring in crowds. The proposed design would be targeting the skaters in Singapore as skating is not a very competitive sports. Cafes, workshop and first aid counters will be provide.

The access to the profession skate area where there is a sudden curves downwards which is invisible to the skaters, give them a sense of thrill as it is unexpected.

The beginner skate area where the elements are basics to cater for the beginners to allow them to get use of the spaces and level of difficulty.

The area below the observation deck, in betwen professional and intermediate skate area. It provides a shelter for the skaters to rest as well as a safe area for people to stand and watch the skaters play. The columns used were skate elements to provide skaters with a seamless connection.

3.Rainwater harvesting

Collects rainwater and filter the water before flowing into the river. This way, the water do not have to go through much filtration before consuming.

Helps to cool down the temperature of the interior building. therefore saving energy and electricity which will be used for the building.

The HDB buildings would be collecting rainwater on the roof top which then flow through the bio-swale. It helps to collect more water in the river.

Rainwater harvesting system

A conceptual drawing of what i think how the system would work after much research and findings. However it is not as simple as i thought and it is the incorrect one.

After much research with trial and error, i came to realised how it would work and sketch out another detailed drawing of the whole system of rainwater harvesting.

Vertical Green wall Benefits of vertical green wall Improve the air quality of the surroundings. It purifies toxic air and produce oxygen. Plants cool down the interior buidling by 10%, hence saving money on eletricity. Greeneries provides the building with more aesthetic purpose. It attracts more customers into the building.

Illustration of how the green walls and plants are supported. The green wall is placed at an angle whereby the sun would shine in during the day to provide shade.

Plants absorbs sounds as well. It helps to reduce the noise pollution coming from the carpark. As plants improved the air quality and reduce pollution, human health will improved and helped to release stress.

Showing the water system of how the plants are irrigated. The rainwater that had been collected will be filtered in the bio-swale. Eco Design
