“It’s hard to believe that in just 14 short months, the last individual from the Defense Information Systems Agency will move into the neighborhood [Fort Meade],” he added. “That’s not really that far off.” Pollett briefed the audience on the agency’s global mission, as well as its workforce composition, noting that roughly 80 percent of the DISA workforce is comprised of government civilians and contractors who are “embedded in the organization.” “We really are a joint organization, and I’m not just talking about the military,” he said. Pollett explained to the audience that DISA has historically played a vital role in both war and humanitarian missions. He said that as the agency prepares to relocate to Fort Meade, the challenge is to remain focused on its mission to empower the nation’s leaders and warfighters serving around the globe.

“One of my biggest concerns as we to move to the great state of Maryland is ensuring that we remain focused on our mission,” Pollett said. “Clearly, my number one priority is the BRAC move, because I’m a firm believer that if you don’t invest in your people you don’t get the job done.” While he acknowledged that approximately 25 percent to 30 percent of the workforce does not currently plan to relocate, Pollett noted that recent employee surveys indicate that there have been an increasing number of employees opting to relocate with the agency - including a number of Northern Virginia homeowners. He also heralded the March 17 job fair at Fort Meade, which attracted more than 7,000 prospective employees. “Clearly, our hiring [numbers] are outpacing our losses,” Pollett pointed out. “People really want to work for DISA.” The BWI Business Partnership is a public policy organization focused on the transportation infrastructure and economic development in the region surrounding and supported by the airport. The Fort Meade Alliance is an independent community membership organization created to promote and support the U.S. Army installation as an economic asset and resource to the region.
