New to the iPad world? Have no fear! Using the device at a basic level is simple. And there are even some things that the most experienced Apple aficionados may not even know.To help you get the most out of your iPad experience, refer to this list of 15 tips and tricks.
1) Receive iPhone calls from your iPad. You can now alternate calls between your iPhone and iPad, thanks to the Continuity feature, as long as you are logged into your Wi-Fi network and have iOS 8 (which you find out by tapping Settings > General > About).
2) Copy and Paste. This one’s easy! Tap and hold down a word or phrase, then choose “Select” to decide which portion of text you’d like to copy. Once you are ready, simply tap “Paste” to paste the text. 3) Share Pages. Transferring Pages documents via iTunes can be a hassle. Luckily, you can use the Share menu to email finished documents in Word or PDF formats. Simply upload and email away.
4) Enable iPad caps lock. In order to fully activate caps lack, all you have to do is double tap either the left or right shift key. This can help save time if you have something REALLY IMPORTANT TO SAY. 5) Replace a word. First tap the word you want to replace and choose “Select.” You will then have the option of choosing “Replace,” which will provide you with suggestions for alternative words.
6) Use AirPrint. Thanks to the incredibly handy AirPrint, users can print directly from their iPad, granted they have a compatible printer set up. All you need to do is choose “Print” from the “Share” menu and the rest is taken care of!
7) Use Google Calendar. Although the iPad has a Calendar app, many users prefer Google Calendar. Simply go to “Settings,” open “Mail, Contacts, Calendars,” add an account, and select “Other.” Next, enter your Google Account login with the server being www.google.com and finally, open the Calendar app.
8) Access the “hidden apostrophe key. Traditionally, users are required to go to a second keyboard screen to type an apostrophe. With this trick, all you have to do is tap and hold the exclamation key (!) and the hidden apostrophe option will appear. Slide your finger up to access it.
9) Change your default email signature. You may have received an email from a friend or coworker with “Sent from my iPad” at the bottom. We think this looks a little unprofessional. To personalize your signature, open up “Settings,” then “Mail, Contacts, Calendars,” locate “Signature,” and type in whatever you please.
10) Extend battery life. Although there are numerous ways to preserve your iPad’s battery life, here are some of the most common: Turn off all apps that are not in use. Cancel any unnecessary live downloads.
Reduce live streaming. Turn down screen brightness: Settings > Brightness &
Wallpapers > Drag and slide to the left.
Disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not in use.
11) Take a screenshot. Press the “Home” button and the “Sleep/Wake” button at the same time to take a screen shot. You will see a flash and hear a click. All screen shots are automatically saved in your Photos gallery, if you’d like to edit or email these pictures.
12) Use a keyboard. Still getting used to your touch screen? Luckily, any Apple Wireless or Bluetooth keyboard will work with your iPad. All you have to do is open “Settings”, select “General” and select “Found Keyboard” to activate. Make sure your keyboard is in discovery mode by pressing the silver button on the right side of the keyboard.
13) Activate home sharing. First, enable “Home Sharing” in both iTunes (located in the Advanced menu) and on your iPad (Settings > Music/Video). Launch the Music app on your iPad, tap “More” at the bottom of the screen and find the “Shared” icon. This will activate your “Shared Libraries,” which will enable to access the library’s media on your iPad.
14) Protect sensitive data. If you plan to store sensitive data on your iPad, and are worried about being hacked, activate the “Activation Lock, a feature that will automatically erase all data on your device if someone inputs the incorrect password 10 times.
15) Utilize the magnifying glass feature. Should you make a typo—or just need a closer look at something— the magnifying glass feature will make life easier by allowing you to select specific areas of text to edit. All you need to do is touch and hold your finger in the area you need to edit.
