Truck Driving Career: Some Mistakes You Must Avoid
Truck driving is a very challenging and thanks less job. There may not be anybody to thank you for successfully delivering a shipment, but a simple mistake can cost you your truck driving career. You will have to follow rules and regulations in every step.
For example, there are rules specific rules regarding how many hours you can drive or how many hours you will have to be on the road or even how many times you will have to use the breaks. Indeed, drivers get used to these rules but yet there are some silly mistakes that can draw the curtain over your truck driving career.
One common mistake that the truck drivers often make is they fail to report an accident. Often drivers tend to avoid minor accidents like a little bump in the parking lot. Usually, drivers want to by-pass minor accidents being afraid of getting penalties but if you don’t report to company it may result in bigger consequences.
Failing to report an accident may even cause the termination of your contract because insurance carriers might drop a fleet or company if they become aware of what happened.
Besides these minor accidents, violations of traffic rules like hit and run or hitting objects on public and private properties are also responsible for losing the job unless you report those immediately.
Another mistake drivers do is that they often tend to hide their past by hiding their criminal reports or driving mishaps. When you will apply for a CDL test to start your truck driving career your driving and criminal records will be examined against both state and federal database.
If it is found out that the reports you’ve provided are not matching with the data base than you might not even be allowed to attend the test. Again, you can’t have CDL in more than one state because that will disqualify you from having CDL now or in the future.
As a driver, it is your duty to follow the company policies. Every company has specific policies stated in a policy book. You must be able to read, learn and understand the policies. A company’s policy may include no pets, no riders allowed in the truck.
A company may also disallow any sort of modifications to the truck. As a driver you have to abide by the rules. You will also have to follow some other rules like attending drugs or alcohol test when you’re called or even call early if you can’t go to your duty even due to sickness.
A violation of any policy is never a good idea because if the company wants, it might terminate your contract and end your truck driving career.
You may be an efficient truck driver but you’re not above mistakes. Mistakes can happen at any time but what you need to look after is that mistake isn’t happened intentionally and you report to the company immediately of what happened otherwise your truck driving career come to a premature end.
