Hong Kong- Hot Pot place Aug 2, 2012 7 PM

The font on the beer bottle was very intriguing - jovial yet hip. To me, the scale and emphasis on the first word “jolly” higlighted this description as central to the product. Next, the red dot on top of the letter “j” serves to draw attention to the first word. The back and for up the serif fornt create even flow.

The light-hearted coolness and winter joy of the Christmas season is captured by the font for this Blue Moon Winter Ale. The color scheme of the text adds to the etheral, blue moon effect that gives the beer a sort of mystical draw to it. The small touches on the label, such as the small snowflake, gives a kiss of winter to it. The font itself has a curling “B” in the word “Blue,” which gives a flowing and wisp-like feel.

University of Houston-Downtown Business Cornerstorn Class Oct 3, 2013 4 PM This t-shirt with a sponsored Mountain Dew logo gives a vibe of edginess and action. The font for “Mountain Dew is connected and non-uniform in size. This attribute, as well as the jagged, tribal-like lines to the outside, exhibit a dynamic and action-oriented feel to the words.

Sweet dessert place Oct 1, 2013 11 PM The brown paper bag used as packaging for desserts from Sweet is simple yet artistic. The words and the design surrounding it are simple, uniform, and neat. Each letter in the word “Sweet is surrounded by an identical circle and are the same size. This uniformity exhibit a sort of perfection and precision - a statement reflective of culinary excellence.

The font in this work of art is composed of a multitude of speckles. These colorful speckles are slightly disorienting and chaotic to the viewer. To augment this effect, the artist only uses one large word per line to create emphasis. As a result, the user feels a bit of crazed disorder and panic, which captures the underlying meaning: “every things not gonna be alright.

This work of art with its emphasis on fonts in different planes of space intrigued me. The blocked font of various size and angle allow the artist to create an illusion and perception of multiple layers and depth. In particular, I liked the swirling details of the font at the top.

Friend’s Home Oct 10, 2013 6 PM My friend’s Nike T-shirt is full of patriotism and spirit. The words of the shirt are cut from pieces of the American flag, so the first thing noticed is patriotism and USA. Next, the viewer will read the words, tying Nike with country pride.

Paparruchos Restaurant Oct 11, 2013 2 PM

The sign for this Mexican restaurant was attractive to me because it gave a sort of festive and carefree vibe to it. The font angles back and forth, while it center shifts up and down. As a result, to me, it feels as if the letters are doing a sort of dance with one another. These dancing letters give this restaurant a unique flavor to it, which welcomes its visitors to a good time.

Fit - House Hold Store Oct 11, 2013 7 PM This T-Shirt-in-a-Can was cool in itself, but the font was very interesting. It draws from a wide array. The first line “For the worst” reminds me of street graffiti, a criminal offense. For “I’m,” the words are made from the puff of smoke, which means that the subject views life as fleeting and clouded. For the last word - “Best,” the font shows that its loosing some of its “fur,” making the claim of being the best - shaky, at best.

Fit - Hose Hold Store Oct 11, 2013 7 PM This font from another T-Shirt-in-aCan was fun for me because it not only had the different planes created by the varying size and angles of the various words, but it also had a lego-like and videogame feel to it. The characters on page, combined with the lego-made ground create a “game-like environment, while the 3-D planes emphasizes typography. As a result, the designer combines the two ideas, while, at the same time, notes that they are separate from one another.

Fresh Market Houston Oct 12, 2013 8 PM I liked this font because it was light and flowing. The lightness of it is emphasized by the heart symbol after “love. While the light letters give a sense that they are swimming.

Fresh Market Houston Oct 12, 2013 8 PM The font for this pasta package gives a spunky and worry-free emotion. The words are curled, uneven and of varying thickness - showing that the font and pasta do not follow given conventions. To emphasize this, a tag-line exclaims that this pasta is full of personality.

This bottle of wine gives a perception of grandness with its title font. Although the wine may be of tradition, as emphasized by the text and conservative fonts shown elsewhere on the bottle, it is also evident that the designer tried to make the wine distinct and cutting-edge since the title font is also very modern.

The font for this candy projects thoughts of milkiness and inter-related joy for its viewers. The letters in the word “Lovely are highly intertwined with one another - giving it a smooth feel. The manner of connection through loops and curls give the font a mikly swirl, which ties directly with its product - chocolate swirl caramels.

Target Oct 12, 2013 10 PM

This cereal box was very fun and clever in its execution of its title font. The cereal is named “Franken Berry” and to allude to the story “Frankenstein,” it uses a semi-human monster on the cover that is created with some bolts and mechanical parts. The font has bolts dotted throughout to continue this theme of “Frankenstein.”

This cereal box was also very clever and fitting for the Halloween season. The title “Count Chocula” draws on recongition of the main character and name allusion to “Dracula.” Furthermore, the font in “Chocula” is cleverly designed - tall and looming, with wings at each end. As a result, the word “Chocula” appears to be a giant bat.

The font for “Frozen Meat” is similar to those seen in classic horror movies. The words are dripping with blood and consist of uneven reds, which makes it appear that the letters are actually blood-stains. This horror is continued with the words on the work, and tying it all together, the font and design gives a sense of horror and revolt towards “frozen meat.”

Argentina Cafe Oct 13, 2013 12 PM

This card has a variety of fonts tied to each coffee. For example, Espresso is made up of tall, curled letters, which gives it a chic and refined look, which may a statement of its drinkers. Another representative example is the “take-away” coffee and its font because the words “takeaway” appear as if they are scribbled on as if the writer was in a rush, which in turn reflects the busy drinkers of the coffee.

My Home Oct 14, 2013 11 AM

The font on this fruit preserve spread is flowing, yet thick and bold. The typeface is similar to that seen in historical signs from the West, which in turn would reflect the established tradition behind the preserve. Since the preserve has been around for such a long-time, as reflected by its font full of tradition, the product must be good.

My boyfriend’s T-shirt gives reference to underground street cultures. The font type is commonly seen in tattoos of members of this sub-culture, while the gold color represents the draw towards and pursuit of “bling.”

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 3 PM The font for “inspired” appears to be hand-written, and it is appropriate for this flyer because the group was trying to obtain personal stories and testimonials. As a result, the font’s visual nature, with its faded ink and thick blots give it a personal flavor.

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 3 PM

The font for the fair guide is presented in a manner that draws visual cues from sign-boards. The design looks like letter stencils were placed over a brown board, which was later spray-painted with red. The unevenness and softness at corners emphasize this “sign personality.

These works of art were 3-D representations of the letters “A,” “B,” and “C.” I found them unique because each letter had a special flavor to their 3-D effects. For “C,” the letter feels dynamic and blown. The top of the letter has a flame-like motif that is continued throughout. Looking at the letter, as a whole, the C looks like a comet.

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 3 PM This piece features a very colorful and cartoonish font. The color, texture, and alignment of the font makes it blend in with its surrounding and very busy. This theme is continued with the objects that are littered about the font - creating more chaos in the work.

This composition is incredibly interesting due to its composition and meaning. The font for the message is taken from multiple different, dollar bills. The bills are then folded and rotated about to create the message “Make Love Not War, which is ironic due to money being a root of most conflicts. The way the artist created the message from snippits of different bills makes this composition exceptional, while emphasizing the words and font.

This piece was another superb work of art that emphasized font and using words to compose a message or picture. Here, a small, plain font was used to shrink words to very small sizes. Afterwards, these characters were arranged to create a tree. The small fonts that make-up the tree give it a granular look that is moving and detailed.

This work of art used a dark brown and standard sign type of font. The dark color of the font, combined with the dark background, reflects the age of the building and time period of creation. Next, the font-type is uniform and capitalized - attempting to attract attention of viewers.

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 4 PM This piece of art takes a unique approach to words and font. Words are used in a 3-D and angled manner to give a “pop-out” effect. Next, graphics are used for the “O”s in “look,” which makes it special. Furthermore, pieces of the font are cut-up and deleted, which gives a feel that the font has been eroded away from water. The orange color emphasizing these eroded section, draws the viewer’s attention to these missing parts and also indicates a nearing end, as represented by a sun-set.

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 4 PM The uneven, curled, and flowing font of “The Outcasts give a sense of movement for the word. The italicized words also contribute to the sense of motion and action. The designer takes advantage of font to reflect how outcasts would be constantly on the run - drifting from location to location.

Fair Oct 13, 2013 4PM

This work uses a psychedelic font that pays tribute to the 60s and 70s. The colorful red of the font against the black background for the font, gives it a 3-D effect and gives a sense of rising letters. This sense of rising letters is further reiterated by the toplight, bottom-heavy structure of the font. Tying all this together, the font looks like it is contained within a lava lamp.

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 5 PM In this exhibit, the font is very plain and slightly 3-D. The purpose is to get the message across, despite the busy background. The font, thus, provides contrast and a tone of serious business in this otherwise eclectic work.

Texas Contemporary Art Fair Oct 13, 2013 3 PM This piece shows is tied with the previous exhibit, and the font used here is drastically different from the previous sign. Here, the font is of different size, color, and background. As a result, it is similar to a collage or piece taken from an advertisement in a magazine. The alternating colors show youthfulness and variety, while the collage-nature represents the different members of the staff, with their different personalities, working towards a shared goal and ideal.
