Mission Statement for Africa-USA Today Magazine INTRODUCTION & BIO: Africa-USA Today Magazine started as a local community news tabloid in 2002, in Chicago Uptown area (north side of Chicago) by a Nigerian-American political scholar named Olawale Idreez, PHD Dr. Idreez lives with his family in Chicago since September 1982. He attended Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Chicago Illinois from 1987 - 1989 receiving a B.S. (Accounting), and a M.A. in Political Science (International Relations). Later, he further his education online at Kensington University, Glendale, California in February 1996, with a concentration in Political Science (International Relations). He has worked in various managerial and supervisory capacities, including Case Manager at Bobby E. Wright, Comprehensive Mental Behavioral Services Chicago Illinois, as job readiness coach. Dr. Idreez Passion for Politics and Political Affairs in the global arenas became the focus for using his writing skills, to create a news tabloid called US-Africa Globe Newspaper. No sooner than the new tabloid started, Dr. Idreez created Africa-USA Today Magazine. He formed an association with Mr. John E. Smith, Jr. a Graphic Artist (now the editorin-chief for the Africa-USA Today Magazine). Mr. Smith has successfully taken Dr. Olawale Idreez vision to the next level, beyond the scope imagined by the founder; making the magazine viewed by readers around the world. The Magazine is viewed on Website: www.issuu.com/jesmithphoto. Africa-USA Today Magazine is a monthly Magazine where Dr. Idreez writes about and discuss Politics and Political Affairs globally. 4 AFRICA USA TODAY
GOAL & OBJECTIVES: Dr. Olawale Idreez main goal for the Magazine was to connect, and compare the United States and Africa political, social, and economic systems. Precisely in Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Liberia, South Africa, and some part of North Africa. That is, in relevance to business ethics, governmental training, entertainment and the countries historical education. Africa-USA Today Magazine is now trending in China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Great Britain, Portugal, Italy, India, Brazil, and most of South America thanks to ISSU.Com. More importantly, He would like to continue empowering the youths to focus on education, as the main tool to be successful. Dr. Idreez states, education is certainly the main key to improve the future of the world. Africa-USA Today Magazine encourage and promote Journalism students globally to submit their term papers or thesis to the magazine for publication and to receive extra credits for their school project. That is our humble way of contributing positively to the community that have invested in you. ACCOMPLISHMENTS: After a decade of extensive media training, while contributing and helping other international magazines to attain their goals, I found this experience absolutely rewarding. And thereby established this publication, titled Africa-USA Today Magazine five years ago. Although the name has re-established, we have been blessed to surpass our goals: Creating awareness in the local and international communities; covering political, and business interactions between nations; relaying local and international news to part of the world, and to people that have no voice in determining their own portion of the nation›s wealth. Interviewed some creme-de-la-creme personalities in the local and international arenas; covered extensively fashion shows, and fashions trends - not only in Africa, African American vicinity, and Latinos community as well. Focus largely on the entertainment industries, which is no doubt, the next largest money mogul industry throughout the entire 7.5 billion population. READERSHIP: Our readers are not limited to one particular segment of race, ethnics, tribes, gender, or religion affiliations, but all inclusive; albeit it started with the main emphasis on Africans-in-the-Diaspora, in relevance to interactions between Africans and African Americans, and the misconception between the two; now we are able to spread like an eagle that just came out of the nest, attracting and wooing global markets. Hoping and praying that we will get support from our sponsors, fans, advertisers, and business minded people, like you........for without you, there is no us! FUNDING & FINANCIAL NEEDS: We humbly take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all the volunteer writers, columnists, advertisers, and youths (in Nigeria and United States) that have been contributing, making this dream to be manifested in our time. Olawale Idreez can be reached at email: usafriglo@yahoo.com, or phone: 312-937-4508. Thank you Sincerely, Olawale Idreez

John Lewis (civil rights leader) John Robert Lewis (February 21, 1940 – July 17, 2020) was an American politician and civil-rights leader who served in the United States House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th congressional district from 1987 until his death in 2020 from pancreatic cancer. Lewis served as the chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) from 1963 to 1966.
John Lewis
Lewis was one of the "Big Six" leaders of groups who organized the 1963 March on Washington, and he fulfilled many key roles in the civil rights movement and its actions to end legalized racial segregation in the United States. In 1965, Lewis led the first of three Selma to Montgomery marches across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. In an incident which became known as Bloody Sunday, state troopers and police then attacked the marchers, including Lewis. A member of the Democratic Party, Lewis was first elected to Congress in 1986 and served for 17 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. Due to his length of service, he became the dean of the Georgia congressional delegation. The district he represented includes the northern three-quarters of Atlanta. He was a leader of the Democratic Party in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving from 1991 as a Chief Deputy Whip and from 2003 as Senior Chief Deputy Whip. Lewis received many honorary degrees and awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools takes Male Mentorship Program digital with Asaafo Submitted by Neffer Oduntunde A. Kerr
Like other educational institutions, the Covid-19 pandemic forced Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools (BSICS) to convert to a remote learning platform. The pandemic also highlighted the fact that in addition to students’ academic needs being met, beneficial and vital programs needed to continue as well. Asaafo is one of those programs. Asaafo is made possible through a partnership established between the Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools (BSICS) network and Chicago State University’s African American Male Resource Center (AAMRC). Through this arrangement, AAMRC trains and dispatches African American Male college students to facilitate school-based mentor sessions with at-risk African American male middle school students, once a week for 90 minutes per session. The mentors are members of the center’s Teaching and Educating Men of Black Origin (TEMBO) program.
Asaafo was designed to serve African American male middle-school students from low income communities who are or may have been exposed to crime, trauma, drugs, violence, abuse, or other adverse social or emotional conditions. Program mentors are trained to address their mentees from an African centered frame of reference that is considerate of the unique set of challenges presented to African American adolescents and teens who are male. Through a regimen comprised of group chats, one-to-one check-ins, team building exercises, group outings, and a variety of restorative practices including cognitive behavioral therapy, men’s work, cultural expression, conflict resolution, and social skills development the program seeks to foster comradery by establishing lifelong peer-to-peer and mentee-to-mentor connections between its participants.
Administrators and mentors understood the socioemotional value this program provides students, and how it also operates as an additional support for many families, so it was imperative to devise a way to continue Asaafo during the mandatory quarantine and Covid-19 pandemic. BSICS met the challenge of continuing to mentor program participants by digitizing the Asaafo program with the same vigor that they approached remote learning. Thanks to the commitment of AAMRC partners and BSICS faculty, mentors and mentees meet weekly (virtually) via video chat. Students are still able to communicate with mentors and each other and through group and one on one sessions and even use communication through gaming platforms as a form of bonding and team building. Programs like Asaafo assist in the overall mental health and well-being of students and it is of the utmost importance to Betty Shabazz International Charter Schools that programs like Asaafo remain uninterrupted despite these very unpredictable times. 32 AFRICA USA TODAY

HEALTH
A. Tunde Okunuga , MD – [W]holistic vs Orthodox Medicine in the Corona Virus Era It gives me much pleasure to introduce myself through such a viable medium as Africa-USA Today Magazine, especially during this world-wide Corona Virus pandemic. My intent is to perhaps stimulate the readers to consider the seriousness of the health situation and how each person and family can utilize my information as a guide to making better decisions for their health. I am so happy to see the attempt to bridge the information and economic gap between the USA and Africa. As a result of receiving my medical commendation from Medical University of Lublin , Poland , I had to consider what kind of protocol would truly represent my professional and ethical obligation of non-maleficence “Do No Harm”, replace pain with a smile, which is the mantra in American allopathic medicine; and the only answer I could justify to myself and to the human race, is to put into practice the medicine that my ancestors have practiced quite successfully over the past few centuries, using herbal remedies from the garden or harvested from wild fields of rich herbs, fruits, vegetables and their heirloom seeds. Realizing that most pharmaceuticals use a variety of natural herbs in every formulation that they ‘patent,’ I fully support the idea of utilizing as many naturally occurring ingredients derived from plants. Hopefully, someday we can find more ‘herbal-medicinal’ formulations that will be accepted by world-wide health organizations. In the meantime, I prefer to educate the masses regarding the many choices they have that can lead to optimal wellness or the converse, lead to long-standing health challenges . With all of the wonderful technological innovations of this day in age, we can certainly qualify and quantify the efficacy of herbs in their natural form and/or in their extracted or concentrated forms. The ‘essence’ of natural-based formulations can be manipulated enough to provide substantial relief utilizing a particular measurement of ingredients that can flood the blood system with ‘computer-like precision’ with herbs and nutrients which can help allay or mediate the current condition(s) that the patient presents.Very rarely will a patient present with just one symptom or dis-ease. To put it bluntly, unless the patient had an accident, for example; a fall that causedbrain trauma or a toxin that caused an anaphylactic response, i.e. swollen tissues in the throat as a result of an allergy to peanuts, then the difficulty of discerning or discovering the cause/trigger of the ailment. Providing pathways of relief of the symptomology and/or the root cause of the ailment on the cellular level can evade the keenest minds. I truly believe that our world of medicinal science wants to sway in direction proven to enhance increased life expectancy and decreased hospital visits. The mass awareness coupled with lack of trust in contemporary pharmaceutical outlets, whose main focus can be construed as‘economically driven’ and the clinical outcome of their pharmaceuticals are not geared towards a better plight for the patients. It is, therefore, imperative for individuals to be acutely aware of their health concerns to ensure optimal therapeutic benefits. But I ask the question, “how can this dynamic be presented or measured if the patient hasn’t had the benefit or inclination to discover the many wonders of the body’s ability to heal itself once infused with the nutritivecomponents of whole foods and concentrates (supplements) that can influence a healthier outcome?” In comparing [w]holistic medicine with orthodox, this disparity in the clinical values should be ruled as a general health problem, but for reasons of politics and economic gain, this is far from coming to a reality. [W]holistic or alternative medicine is natural, organic and non-toxic at the cellular level. Firstly, the most outstanding basis for all illnesses is inflammation with signs and symptoms pointing towards pain, increased mucus production, swelling, cellular proliferation, cancer (benign or malignant), autoimmune diseases, etc. There is only a single pathophysiologic cause of inflammation, which it is basically a result of unregulated signaling at the cellular level. However, the trigger may be more than one, but all are centered around stress. Stress does not only inhibit the specific proteins to repair damaged cells thereby causing the cells to defy the regulatory signals, it also lowers the pain threshold, susceptibility to infection and new disease onset. Pain is a result of inflammation and inflammation without pain is cancer until proven otherwise. Inflammation is physiologically regulated by inhibiting an enzyme, phospholipase A2 ( PLA2) which cleaves phospholipids cell membrane. Any drug that can inhibit the above named enzyme can stop inflammation. The first line drug indicated for treatment of pain and asthma is steroids. Mediation of pain, asthma and any condition triggered by allergens uses steroids which present with multiples of side effects, 34 AFRICA USA TODAY
HEALTH some of which can be life threatening. Conversely, holistic or alternate medicine used for treatment of inflammation either uses natural lipids (oils ) to line our cell membrane or cause the membrane stability that makes it impossible for PLA2 to cleave the phospholipids cell membrane. This route of inflammatory mediation provides a healing effect as opposed to steroids that treats or manages the signs and symptoms coupled with a conglomeration of side effects (orthodox) A host of oils for this example; are also classified as essential because our body is either lacking or not making enough to support normal metabolic activity. Such essential oils and others with similar therapeutic benefits are as follows; Black seed essential oil, tea tree essential oil, lemon essential oil, moringa essential oil, Bergamot, Nano silver, Manuka honey, Cinnamon, Turmeric, Baobab, alkaline water pH > 7.5, coconut oil, wild salmon oils and much more. It is important to note that microbial infections e.g. viral, bacterial, fungal, protists, parasites and prions cause infection that results in physiologic stress manifesting in inflammation. Different nutrientshave a wide variety of other functions that will ultimately enhance healing. Combining the above listed natural agents will be synergistic in effect with increased efficacy and potency. My concerns lay heavily on over-medication, mis-diagnosis, and avoidable surgical procedures. Many are well-aware of the opioid epidemic that has been raging for several years, causing innocent victims to become addicted to the pain relief properties of opioids which in many cases has led to family turmoil, financial ruin due to the patient’s inability to perform daily tasks, neglect ofresponsibilities and sadly, in many cases, lead to suicide. I don’t believe this is the way our creator intended for us to live. However, I do know emphatically that most conditions can be improved upon if proper nutritional supplementation is added tocomplement temporary prescribed dosages of drugs which can provide some support to the patient’s recovery. That includes psychotropic meds which tend to damage the brain cells quickly although the chemicals in some meds can quickly render the appearance of mental stability for a period of time before the patient’s symptomology reoccurs thus requiring higher dosages until the patient is overcome with toxic buildup, (side effects),which causes a whole new variety of new symptoms to present. It is obvious to all that the corona virus has caught the scientific world off guard while also defying known viral characteristics and means to stop its virulence . It is equally apparent that there is room for new thought or old remedies to take the main stage to lead us back to some degree of normalcy while providing more protection from spreading the disease or preventing re-infection. I encourage more scientific/medical professionals who can empathize with my position to join me in creating more effective pathways to mediating the pandemic outcomes as well as present quantifiable data that may lead to decreasing the morbid impact of many diseases. I will convey throughout my series of articles, the direct impact that the corona virus can have on the human body, and more specificallyincrease infection threshold of the vulnerable (people of color) population which appears statistically to have the highest morbidity rate in the world due to profound underlying symptoms of pre-existing imbalances. My immediate concerns are laser-focused on the virus’ impact on the lungs, both during and after the infection. Upon studying various data, it seems to be imperative to focus on lung cleansing and supportive sanitized environments, (clean air inside and outside), less chemically-infused cleaning agents, less chemicals consumed and/or applied to the skin, less toxic chemical aerosols, etc. I theorize that these changes can enhance lung revitalization quickly enough to prevent pneumonia and reduce the incidence of blood clotting from COVID-19 or at the very least lessen the intensity of infection and other debilitating symptomology. Unless circulation is increased with oxygenated blood, we will see a sharp increase in hospitalization and massive deaths in wave 2 and 3 of this ravaging disease. My series will introduce and verify various methods on how a patient may benefit from changing their diet in such way that will curtail sugar (carbohydrate) intake, which is known to promote cancer cell proliferation in addition to creating metabolic syndrome, moderate red-meat intake by replacingit with fish or turkey (white-meat) alternatives while considering to increase the amount of vegetable proportions at each meal. We’ll explore the importance of incorporating alkaline water which can help flush toxic waste build-up in the organs, muscles and tissues down to the cellular level, allowing for higher absorption of nutrients and meds if need be. Once equilibrium(homeostasis) is achieved in the body, dehydration, nutrient starvation, and cellular apoptosis can significantly be reduced and the patient can reap the benefits of incorporating a diet full of wholesome foods and supportive whole-food supplements to enhance wellness outcomes. My closing statement is that all humans can benefit from more precise diets of whole foods and high-quality organic supplementation.

Completing the Census is a Social Justice Issue. A survey recording a household’s likelihood to complete the census conducted by the U.S Census Bureau in 2018 reported that nearly a quarter of Americans said they would not complete the census due to concerns over a lack of data privacy and mistrust in the government. The majority of these respondents identified with one or more of what the Bureau is calling “Hard to Count Communities”. These communities include individuals with limited education, limited English, limited income, and/or unstable housing and are often located in underfunded areas. These are the very groups that the Census was created to support, and, without a complete count, they are at risk to lose crucial funding for community services. And to make matters worse, these groups will be relegated to the shadows for another 10 years. Anti-immigration messaging and reduced Census funding from the current federal administration has contributed to the idea that Census data can be used in ways that could be harmful to individuals and families. This is particularly frightening to our undocumented neighbors. Community leaders have been working to alleviate this misinformation, but people are still confused about whether or not a question about citizenship status will be on the Census. Just for the record, it’s not. The Census is mandated by the Constitution, stating that every person living in the United States be counted every 10 years. Cook County is reporting a 61.5% response rate as of July 10, but that still leaves nearly 40% of our neighbors uncounted. The Census determines how much a community is granted in funding for the next 10 years. That means funding for schools, school lunches, hospitals, and emergency services. The count is low in the neighborhoods that need this the most - which means funding will be low. If we do not work to get everyone counted, these communities will continue to go underfunded for another decade. By completing the Census, you are using your voice to create change. By telling your AFRICA USA TODAY neighbors to complete the Census, you are standing up for your community. It takes five

New Trade Reality: Tightened US Export Controls 16 July 2020 Louis Chan
The US President signed into law on 14 July 2020 an amended version of the Hong Kong Autonomy Act (H.R.7440) that expands the range of foreign persons in Hong Kong and mainland China potentially subject to sanctions and allows the President to impose sanctions on foreign nancial institutions that knowingly conduct signicant transactions with any such persons. Separately, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) has suspended regulations affording preferential treatment to Hong Kong over mainland China, including the availability of licence exceptions for items subject to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) . The Hong Kong Autonomy Act The US Congress fast‑tracked an amended version of the Hong Kong Autonomy Act (H.R.7440) that requires the US State Department, in consultation with the US Treasury Department, to submit a report to the relevant congressional committees by 12 October 2020 (i.e. 90 days from enactment) on whether any foreign person is materially contributing to, has materially contributed to, or attempts to materially contribute to the failure of the mainland Chinese government to meet its obligations under the Sino-British Joint Declaration or the Hong Kong Basic Law. The required report must identify the foreign person and provide a clear explanation for why that person was identied, including a description of the activity that resulted in the identication. A foreign person will be deemed to have materially contributed to the failure of the mainland Chinese government to meet its obligations under the Sino-British Joint Declaration or the Hong Kong Basic Law if that person (i) took action that resulted in the inability of the Hong Kong people to enjoy freedom of assembly, speech, press or independent rule of law, or to participate in democratic outcomes; or (ii) otherwise took action that reduced the high degree of autonomy of Hong Kong. No later than 60 days after submitting the aforementioned report, the US State Department must identify any foreign nancial institutions that knowingly conduct a signicant transaction with a foreign person identied in the report. Foreign persons and nancial institutions may be excluded or removed from the report in instances where the material contribution by the person or the transaction by the nancial institution that merited inclusion do not have a signicant and lasting negative effect that contravenes mainland China’s obligations under the Sino-British Joint
Declaration and the Basic Law, are not likely to be repeated in the future, and have been reversed or otherwise mitigated through positive countermeasures taken by the foreign person or nancial institution. The legislation requires the President to impose sanctions no later than one year after a foreign person is included in the initial report or an update thereof, although such sanctions may be imposed immediately. These sanctions include prohibiting the identied person from acquiring, holding, withholding, using, transferring, withdrawing, transporting or exporting any property that is subject to the US jurisdiction and with respect to which the foreign person has any interest; dealing in or exercising any right, power or privilege with respect to such property; or conducting any transaction involving such property. Additionally, visas may be denied to such foreign persons and they may be excluded from the US. In the case of foreign nancial institutions identied in the report, the President must impose at least ve types of sanctions specied in the legislation within one year after the inclusion of the institution in the report, as well as all ten types of sanctions specied in the legislation within two years. These sanctions include: 1. Prohibiting any US nancial institution from making loans or providing credit to the foreign nancial institution; 2. Barring the foreign nancial institution from being designated as a primary dealer in US government debt instruments; 3. Prohibiting the foreign nancial institution from serving as an agent of the US government or a repository for US government funds; 4. Prohibiting any foreign exchange transactions that are subject to US jurisdiction; 5. Prohibiting any transfers of credit or payments between nancial institutions, or by, through or to any nancial institution, to the extent that such transfers or payments are subject to US jurisdiction; 6. Prohibiting the acquisition, h olding, withholding, use, transfer, withdrawal, transport, import or export of property subject to US jurisdiction and to which the foreign nancial institution has any interest, as well as dealing in or conducting any transaction with respect to such property; 7. Restricting or prohibiting exports, re-exports and transfers (in-country) of commodities, software and technology subject to US jurisdiction directly or indirectly to the foreign nancial institution; 8. Malcolm Nance “The Plot to Hack America reads like a spy thriller, but it’s all too real.” –US Daily Review Over 600 Amazon *FIVE STAR* Reviews! “Nance states that, by their choices, actions, and statements, ‘Trump and Pence chose Russia’s values over America’s.’” –Michael Lipkin, New York Journal of Books Published a full month prior to the divisive Trump vs. Clinton 2016 presidential election, this book exposed the Russian hacking while the CIA was drafting their own report. In April 2016, computer technicians at the Democratic National Committee discovered that someone had accessed the organization’s computer servers and conducted a theft that is best described as Watergate 2.0. In the weeks that followed, the nation’s top computer security experts discovered that the cyber thieves had helped themselves to everything: sensitive documents, emails, donor information, even voice mails. Soon after, the remainder of the Democratic Party machine, the congressional campaign, the Clinton campaign, and their friends and allies in the media were also hacked. Credit cards numbers, phone numbers, and contacts were stolen. In short order, the FBI found that more than twenty-five state election offices had their voter registration systems probed or attacked by the same hackers. Western intelligence agencies tracked the hack to Russian spy agencies and dubbed them the “Cyber Bears.” The media was soon flooded with the stolen information channeled through Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks. It was a massive attack on America but the Russian hacks appeared to have a singular goal—elect Donald J. Trump as president of the United States. New York Times bestselling author of Defeating ISIS, Airey Neave Memorial Book Prize finalist for Hacking ISIS, career intelligence officer, and MSNBC terrorism expert correspondent Malcolm Nance’s fast paced real-life spy thriller takes you from Vladimir Putin’s rise through the KGB from junior officer to spymaster-in-chief and spells out the story of how he performed the ultimate political manipulation—convincing Donald Trump to abandon seventy years of American foreign policy including the destruction of NATO, cheering the end of the European Union, allowing Russian domination of Eastern Europe, and destroying the existing global order with America at its lead. The Plot to Hack America is the thrilling true story of how Putin’s spy agency, run by the Russian billionaire class, used the promise of power and influence to cultivate Trump as well as his closest aides, the Kremlin Crew, to become unwitting assets of the Russian government. The goal? To put an end to 240 years of free and fair American democratic elections. 54 AFRICA USA TODAY
