Risotto All’ Argosta at Renato’s

AARON BRISTOL Provisions Visions THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC may have forced the closure of restaurants beginning in March 2020, but chefs Clay Conley and Zach Bell of the Ember Group did everything but stop cooking. Instead, they decided to turn up the heat in one of their most vibrant kitchens.

Conley, the chef behind Palm Beach’s Buccan, quickly launched a nonprofit corporation, Buccan Provisions, to fund the production of nutritious and delicious food for locals suffering the economic fallout of the COVID-19 lockdown. The 6,000-square-foot Grato, Conley’s nouveau Italian spot over the bridge in West Palm Beach, became home base for Buccan Provisions. Conley and Bell outfitted the restaurant with tilt skillets, and added refrigeration and automated food-packing machinery—everything the partners needed to turn out cost-effective meals at high volumes.

Buccan Provisions has raised more than a million dollars in funding, allowing the Ember Group to serve 178,000 meals—that’s 10,000 per week—to 20 nonprofit partners in Palm Beach County, which distribute them to those directly in need of hunger relief. Grato is now back open, but the need is still there. Consider a tax-deductible donation at buccanprovisions.org.

FAR AND AWAY

Coastal living evokes both seaside and international influences in home design and furnishings

This intimate Palm Beach room with its beamed ceilings and rich texture designed by Jennifer Garrigues suggests an island outpost, with a British Colonial accent.

When it comes to design, tropical living along the coast can assume a number of different aesthetics, from traditional cottage style to Mediterranean grandeur to conjuring up the magic of far-flung Indonesian islands. Here are a few looks that weave in the magic of foreign outposts with a native coastal touch.

Eau Spa offers a wide range of massages, facials and beauty treatments, but we like the idea of the hour-long Face Odyssey, described as the “final frontier of facials using space technology of plant stem cells with the highest concentration of proprietary peptides in this universe.” The whole new futuristic you. 100 S. Ocean Blvd., Manalapan, 561/540-4960.

The iconic Breakers Spa is another landmark on Palm Beach, with every treatment you can imagine for renewal, beauty and relaxation. We’d be happy with a superindulgent Couture Manicure using the spa’s allnatural vegan and organic skin care products. 1 S. County Road, Palm Beach, 561/655-6611.

You already know about Café Boulud, but did you know you could also have a little beauty time at the Brazilian Court Hotel? Go on, get your red carpet makeup here, the glam way, the way so gorgeous you won’t

Exploring the Vias Tucked away at intervals along Worth Avenue, the vias evoke European charm

AARON BRISTOL

VIA AMORE:

FIND IT: Between Lilly Pulitzer and Arcature Fine Art, 200 Block WHAT NOT TO MISS: “Amore” is Italian for love, which perfectly describes the romantic feel of one of Worth Avenue’s largest vias. Cascading tree branches brush the walls of the via, while sculptures and art lend it its classical character. Wrought iron gates encompass the walls of the first entrance, and statues and fountains line each terrace. Lost? Be on the lookout for the mosaic compass on the ground near Café Via Flora, a quiet café surrounded by trees, flowers and twinkling lights. Additionally, make sure to spot the can’t-miss mural in the via before enjoying a delicious lunch.

VIA NEWSOME:

FIND IT: Adjacent to Only Authentics, 300 block WHAT NOT TO MISS: Small but beautiful, Via Newsome feels like it was beamed from an Italian piazza. A fountain greets you at the entrance, and a reflecting pond leads you to a serene Roman goddess sculpture. If you want to have a secluded picnic or lunch, Via Newsome is the place for you, as it has tables and chairs in every corner.

VIA PARIGI:

FIND IT: Between Brown Harris Stevens and Il Papiro, 300 Block WHAT NOT TO MISS: Via Parigi mixes the beauty of South Florida and Europe with Old World architecture and tropical palm trees lining the narrow entrance path, opening to a beautiful Parisian-inspired courtyard. The intricate mosaic staircase is one of Via Parigi’s alluring features, and the many balconies add to its European charm. A fountain is the centerpiece of Via Parigi, surrounded by abstract iron statues of the four seasons.
