The use of steel alongside other composites provides a quick option of erecting a robust structure within the shortest amount of time given the structural members are prefabricated with modulated parts.

Jua kaliLight Industry
Concepts
The design carefully channels and directs the traffic flow of traders and customers along the busy Kangundo road and around the New wakulima market nearby ensuring a steady customer-base and cash-flow Deriving its philosophy from interdependence, be it of people, activities, or structural details, this Jua kali design utilizes recycled steel shed structures to house different ammenities for its occupants
Entryway perspective
Social concepts of territoriality and privacy ensure that spaces are more private as one goes through the design. On the other hand, environmental concepts enable the appropriate orientation of structures and openings within the scheme for optimum use of natural forces such as sun, wind, and rainfall.
Spaces are planned uniformly around three outdoor open spaces (focal points) which act as nodes for interaction of people.
These focal points serve functions of outdoor display areas, sitting spaces and bulkoffloading areas
The workshops comprise stepped steel shed structures comourflaged behind a thick vegetative belt to reduce the amount of noise generated from within them.
Blow-up of Workshops
Industry
The workshop designs follow a unique order whose trussed roof support is external. This is a deliberate move to protect their structural integrity while also comparing their structural performance in case of fire emergencies to the common shed designs currently in use.
The workshop frontage includes a paved and recessed outdoor working and display area This increases the overall available working and display area while serving as a drainage basin for rainwater collected in the underground tank beneath
The details show the designer's attempt to improve the structure's fire resistance while communicating the design's philosophy of interdependence
Affordable Housing - Kalimoni

Aerial view
Affordable Housing
The housing units are organized around a central courtyard which acts as outdoor play areas for children and sitting/relaxation areas.
Inclusion of a single 7storey (highrise) building housing some higher income earners will serve to subsidize service charges for the rest of the scheme.
A web of interconnected footpaths serve to connect and channel pedestrian traffic through the affordable housing scheme from every corner to focal points within and around the scheme which act as points of commune.
Strict traffic control measures including chokers, narrowed accesses, pedestrian crossings, signages, clearly delineated pedestrian and vehicular routes alongside traffic lights are put in place to give precedence to the pedestrian over the motorist
Affordable Housing
Low-cost materials such as reflective mabati roofs and Extruded Polysterene panels are used to reduce construction time, and material westage during construction.
Dunga Hill Eco-resort
Designer : Jesse Odhiambo
Location : Kisumu
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Occupying both crest and foot of Dunga Hill along Dunga beach, the
Dunga Hill Eco-resort-Kisumu
The eco-resort's cottage design uses Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer membranes on Oriented Strand Board panels anchored onto recycled steel structural lattices These structures are raised above ground on plinths enabling free airflow into deeper parts of the site.
These cottages have also been detailed for natural cross and stack ventilation while preventing moisture and heat building up within them This creates a thermally comfortable internal environment without the need for mechanical HVAC systems.
