Research Report PET COMPOSITION: PET is highly flexible, colorless and semi-crystalline resin in its natural state. Depending upon how it is processed, it can be semi-rigid to rigid. It shows good dimensional stability, resistance to impact, moisture, alcohols and solvents. PET is a polyester polymer made of reacting ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. Pellets of the PET polymer (or resin) are heated to a molten mass, which can easily be molded into almost any shape. PROPERTIES: Polyester resins are known for their excellent combination of properties such as mechanical, thermal, chemical resistance as well as dimensional stability. APPLICATION: PET is a highly valued packaging material because it is strong yet lightweight nonreactive, economical, and shatterproof. ADVANTAGE: Durable, low cost, water resistant, light weight. DISADVANTAGE: Made of non renewable resources. EXPERIENCE: My concept was inspired by a waterfall. Three layers of PET perfectly flow together to create a beautiful design. The flexibility of the material made it quite easy to create the preferred shape and mold it to fit my design’s necessities.
