Design Brief Design a personal closure of plastic bottle that could fit any size of bottle for urban people.
Who will use it? People who do not have the behaviour of bring their own bottle.
Where do they use it? Anywhere people who have plastic bottle with them.
When do they use it?
Why do they use it?
When people go to shop to buy a bottle of water or drink.
It could develop the befavior , before prople strat bring personal bottle.
Background research Plastic is a useful material for people to use. However, it is harmful to our environment. Plastic bottled water is a standard product in the shop; almost every shop has this merchandise. However, it takes at least 450 years to degrade completely. According to The Guardian report, it showed that 43% of the 13 billion plastic bottles are recycled in the UK, and litter account for 700,000 each day.

Innovative solution Ooho Water
Evian
Ooho water is designed to replaced plastic bottled water. It is made by a fine ecological and edible membrane which allows people to drink water without generating waste. This edible membrane is made from a natural seaweed extract.
Evian is a world-famous water brand. They produce over six million bottles per day, and they try to reduce their carbon footprint. The new packaging innovation is that the small bottle has no cap and labels which is replaced by using a peel-off lid. This innovative movement reduces mush waste.
Common Neck Finishes There are many different types of neck finishes of the bottle, and it takes much unnecessary energy to make it. If we could reduce them and the entire plastic bottle manufacturer would cut their cost down and make our planet well.

What if there are no cap and threads on the neck of the plastic bottle?
What is missing between two behaviour?
Why is so difficult?
Main reasons
People know that plastic bottles are harmful to our environment. However, there are still many people who use disposable bottle instead of taking their bottle. Why does this situation happen?
1. Bring bottle is too heavy. 2. The bottle is bulky. 3. Cleaning bottle is annoying.
There is a small step for people to build good behaviour.
Concept In the future, the bottle would have a peel-off lid instead of a cap. And there is no thread on the neck of bottles. This change could not only help reduce the waste of the environment but also improve the manufacturer to reduce the cost and energy of mass production. People only need to take their cap instead of a bottle to close the plastic bottle that they bought from the shop.

Movement The movement of and shape is inspired by tulip. When TULIP does not fit any bottle, and it looks like tulip is not blooming. However, when TULIP encloses on the bottle, petals of TULIP will grab the neck of the bottle. It seems like tulip is blooming.

encloses the bottle
Fit any size of plastic bottles On the top of TULIP, there is a spherical pump which connects to a plastic balloon. When the user squeezes the spherical pump, and air would come though the connector then the balloon will become big, after that it would touch the inner wall of the neck of the plastic bottle.
Put TULIP on the bottle
Balloon can fit any size of plastic bottles
Squeeze the pump
Release the TULIP There is a pressure relief valve on the pump when users want to open their bottle; the only action they need to do is pushing the bottom of the valve. This valve is combined with the pump, which included a sealed film. When the user pushes the top of the valve and the sealed film would lose contact with the inner wall of the pump, and the air will come out.
The valve is on the top of the spherical pump
Push the valve
The air in the ballon would come out from the valve
TULIP could be taken out from the neck of the bottle easily

Ideal scenario
Older people aged over 65 feel lonely since they do not have many activities to do and many places to go. This situation would cause their health problems, and it is a vicious circle.
Older people have a place to go where they could have interaction with others, do simple exercise, and make friends. It is a virtuous circle that people live alone could also feel happy and healthy.
Observation
Conversational Interview
Going to the nearest park where it is close to school found that benches for people are general and are not suitable for interacting. However, the outdoor gym could increase interaction with people; most of the equipment is for single.
Having a informal interview is an approach to understand older people’s needs. According to this conversation, she said that there are only a few places to go in her daily, for instance, park, market and community events. However, there are not many chances to make friends. Therefore, creating a natural and social is essential.
Benchmark & Case Study Mobius bench Mobius bench is made by Louis Lim who collaborated with 3form. And they use a new material called Dark Chroma to produce this bench. A series of motion sensors are connected with this bench, and if somebody sits on it, the bench will glow up in different colours.
The playful bench The playful bench is an interactive bench that can change colours. It included a projector which makes the colour change. Through technology, it is brought to life and engages in dialogue with people who pass by.
Merry-go-round bench Merry-go-round bench is designed by George Zisiadis and Rachel McConnell, and this bench encourages people to have a fun time with everybody. The movement of the bench is people riding a carousel by themselves. One thing they need to do is pushing it with legs together with someone next to you, and the bench will spin.
Market Research & Analysis As a market analysis, only a few interactive benches or chairs for older people. Benches which have high interaction are not suitable for older people to sit for a long time, and they are not easy to chat. WALTZ plays a critical role who build a bridge of relationship.

Idea Generation Using the mind map is a way to get more ideas when people need to create their products or service in the first stage. The keywords of WALTZ start from social and expand to other words, for instance, Dance, Joyful, Place, Social Media. Theses words could be not only tangible but also virtual or emotional. More words people put in and more ideas people can get, and do not limit imagination.
Inspiration Colour, Exercise, Waltz and Swallow are four main keywords which are extracted from the mind map. It would help to give more images to develop products and make ideas more specific. WALTZ uses swallow shape as a main body and movements of the waltz as an exercise when people sit on it.
Waltz + Swallow + Exercise Waltz is one of the ballroom dance, and it is an excellent approach to meet new people. Spinning is one movement of the waltz; therefore, this chair combined this movement as a critical feature, and it could help older people to do exercise.
Interaction In order to help older people reduce their loneliness problem, creating chairs which people can have activities and create a social space is one solution to improve the situation in the UK. WALTZ could spin by themselves if people sit on it and use their legs to turn the direction of the chair, and chairs could also revolve around the centre. WALTZ do not only provide older people to do exercise but also create a topic and have an interaction with others.
Waltz Movements
The main feature of the waltz is spin, and during people are dancing the waltz. Three poses are impressed people to remember; therefore, WALTZ chair also includes these three poses. When people are sitting on WALTZ, it is a siting version of waltz for older people. They can have a chat with each other face to face or look somewhere in the same direction.
Dimension Dimension is a critical point for a product since it will affect from aesthetics to ergonomics. WALTZ has been considered the human factor, which could make older people sit more comfortable. 97.5 cm
