Leadenhall Market

eadenhall Market is a beautiful covered Victorian market in the City of London. Under the elegant Victorian roof there are stalls selling flowers, cheese, meat and other fresh food. There are also shops, pubs and restaurants in the market building. Diagon Alley scenes in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone were filmed in Leadenhall Market. Leadenhall Market is one of London’s hidden gems and is owned and managed by the City of London Corporation since 1411. The market dates from the 14th century and is said to derive its name from Leather-hall, though it’s disputable. The early history of Leaden Hall involves the Mayor (1446), Simon Eyre. According to John Stow. “Eyre, a draper built Leaden Hall for common

garner of corn for the use of this city”. Stow Survey of London. The Market is typically open weekdays from 10 am until 6 pm, and primarily sells fresh food; among the vendors, there are cheesemongers, butchers and florists. Originally a meat, game and poultry market, it stands on what was the centre of Roman London. Several commercial retailers are also located in the market, including clothes shops. The ornate roof structure painted green, maroon and cream, and cobbled floors of the current

structure, designed in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones (who was also the architect of Billingsgate and Smithfield Markets), make Leadenhall Market a tourist attraction.

Below is one of the classic St Paul’s Cathedral shots that you may often see on Instagram. Another great place for photography at this location is to take the elevator (which is behind in the image below) to the top where you’ll get some high views. Try coming to this location at sunset for much better light.

St Paul’s Cathedral St Paul’s Cathedral, London, is an Anglican cathedral, the seat of the Bishop of London and the mother church of the Diocese of London. It sits on Ludgate Hill at the highest point of the City of London and is a Grade I listed building. Its dedication to Paul the Apostle dates back to the original church on this site. The present cathedral, dating from the late 17th century, was designed in the English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren. Its construction, completed in Wren’s lifetime, was part of a major rebuilding programme in the City after the Great Fire of London. The cathedral building largely destroyed in the Great Fire, now often referred to as Old St Paul’s Cathedral, was a central focus for medieval and early modern London, including Paul’s walk and St. Paul’s Churchyard is the site of St. Paul’s Cross.

Th Lond Ey A night the London Eye is great to photograph and from the angle below you may run into other Instagram photographers. The London Eye is often moving (but slowly), so if you want an image showing motion then use a long exposure. The London Eye is a cantilevered observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. It is Europe’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel, and is the most popular paid tourist attraction in the United Kingdom with over 3.75 million visitors annually, and has made many appearances in popular culture. Supported by an A-frame on one side only, unlike the taller Nanchang and Singapore wheels, the Eye is described by its operators as “the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel”. The London Eye used to offer the highest public viewing point in London until it was superseded by the 245-metre-high (804 ft) observation deck on the 72nd floor of The Shard, which opened to the public on 1 February 2013. The London Eye adjoins the western end of Jubilee Gardens (previously the site of the former Dome of Discovery),

Designed by the husband & wife team of Julia Barfield and David Marks of Marks Barfield Architects. Mace was responsible for construction management, with Hollandia as the main steelwork contractor and Tilbury Douglas as the civil contractor. Consulting engineers Tony Gee & Partners designed the foundation works while Beckett Rankine designed the marine works. The London Eye was formally opened by Prime Minister Tony Blair on 31 December 1999 but did not open to the paying public until 9 March 2000 because of a capsule clutch problem. The London Eye was originally intended as a temporary attraction, with a five-year lease. In December 2001, operators applied to Lambeth Council to give the London Eye permanent status, and the application was granted in July 2002. On 5 June 2008, it was announced that 30 million people had ridden the London Eye since it opened.
