Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post Traumatic Stress Order(PTSD) Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affects an estimated 7.7
million adults in America, or roughly 10 percent of women and five percent of men.
Most people associate PTSD with war veterans, but PTSD can
happen to anyone after a traumatic event.
Some people even develop PTSD after a friend or loved one
experiences a trauma, or when a loved one dies unexpectedly.
About 1 in 30 people will experience PTSD in a given year,
although that rate is higher among those in the military.
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) ? PTSD affects the body’s natural flight-
or-fight response, which occurs when a person is presented with a fearful or stressful situation.
When the body is in a stressed state,
all non-critical body functions such as higher levels of cognitive function, emotion, and memory are turned off as the body’s energy is channeled towards physical safety.
The stress hormones increase to
boost the immune system and fight any possible infection or bleeding in case of injury or wounds.
Symptoms of PTSD?
What causes PTSD? Researchers are still investigating the specific causes of PTSD. Life events and environment affect whether someone
develops PTSD, but biology and genetics are also important factors in why some people develop it while others do not. The areas of the brain that control the fear response in the
brain contribute to the development of PTSD. Although genetics and biology influence why some people
develop PTSD and others do not, environmental and life events play a large role in the actual development of PTSD.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) Treatment To be diagnosed with PTSD, a person must have at least one
re-experiencing symptom, three avoidance symptoms, and two hyper arousal symptoms for a period of one month. PTSD is most often treated with psychotherapy, medication,
or a combination of the two. Each person with PTSD has a different response and will need
different treatment. Many people find it helpful to enter one of the post traumatic
stress disorder treatment centers, such as Sovereign Health, for intensive care that reduces the risk of relapse.
Sovereign Health Group PTSD Treatment Centers Sovereign Health Group offers state-of-the-art PTSD treatments,
