AFRISKI - Lesotho
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The client called for the development of a master plan for two new ski slopes, a outdoor pedestrian and bicycle trail with adjoining park areas, as well as the upgrade of a new detention dam system. Besides the main activities of skiing and cycling envisioned to be the focus of the resort, the client asked that we accommodate an area for archery as well. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES I was allowed to run with the design and graphic representation of the project as well as coordinating ideas and concepts with the client directly. The project is on hold at the moment and is currently still at master plan level.

BLUE HILLS - Johannesburg
PROJECT DESCRIPTION Blue hills was a marketing venture my company completed with NVDM architects in Johannesburg. The idea was to design a “concept” house and garden to show to prospective buyers of plots on a massive housing estate in Midrand, Johannesburg. This scheme was then presented to the public at the estate’s show day.
I worked closely with NVDM architects to conceptualise the project. I designed the simple terraced landscape to speak to the form of the conceptual house. Natural vegetation was used in juxtaposition to the clean lines of the terraces. Three conceptual options were developed and I put together a graphic representation of these to present at the show day.

GIBELA NEW MANUFACTURING FACILITY - Johannesburg
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AECOM SA (Pty) Ltd (AECOM) was appointed by GIBELA to carry out the design of the proposed GIBELA New Manufacturing Facility. A 75 ha site in Dunnotar, South Africa AECOM in turn appointed Newtown Landscape Architects (NLA) as their sub-consultant to carry out the landscape architectural design scope of the project under AECOM’S architectural lead. The project aimed to receive a Platinum Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The LEED guidelines and budget became the main structuring elements for the design
I was fortunate enough to become project lead on this exciting and challenging project. I developed the design from concept stage through to Spatial Development Plan (SDP) tender submission. I was required to attend all co-ordination meetings and workshops, working closely with AECOM engineers, architects and LEED specialists. I further completed a number of value engineering exercises as well as preliminary costings and bills of quantities.

RIDGESIDE - Durban
My company was hired to do the master planning and landscape design for this development, located in Umhlanga Rocks on the north coast of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, Ridgeside is a four-phased development that will effectively link the Umhlanga Ridge to the Umhlanga Rocks village. The site consists of 140ha of land nestled within a rough triangle created by Umhlanga Rocks Drive and two major highways, the M4 and the M41. A ribbon of coastal forest runs along one boundary while a valley dissects the development as a whole. The overall development supplements the Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre node and fosters the creation of an integrated, peoplecentred mixed-use environment. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES I inherited this 6 year on-going project, becoming project lead on the phase 3 and phase 1 developments. This required carrying out responsibilities from preliminary designs and costings through to bills of quantities and construction drawings; liaising with all parties involved throughout.
