FEATURED TRAINER Laura Robertson & Liz Hutchinson Laurel Ridge Sport Horses, LLC 951.212.4300 LRsporthorses.com
“People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.” -Chinese Proverb When Amateur rider Laura Robertson dreamed as a child, she dreamed only of horses. Born and raised in downtown Washington D.C., she began riding in Potomac, Maryland. “At age 5, my mother asked me if I would like to take gymnastics, or soccer,” Laura recalls with a smile. “I told her I wanted to ride ponies. Ever since then, I have been grateful to her for making that happen for me.” Through the years, she graduated from the Local Shows to the “A” Circuit, and rode under the tutelage of Bill Moroney. She credits him for her understanding of confirmation, movement and work ethic, as he guided her to many wins in the Hunters until she left for Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Over the past 31 years, Laura has also ridden under and gained invaluable experience in the horse industry from some of the Nation’s top trainers such as Dianne Grod, Bernie Traurig, Paul Hauner t, Susan Hutchison, Joe Thorpe, Keri Kampsen, Niki Zamora and Liz Hutchinson. These mentors have each contributed to her countless championships and multiple Horse of the Year awards, and have fueled her desire to continue to learn and compete in the Hunter/Jumper discipline, as well as pursue an understanding of the basics of Dressage. In 2002, Laura decided to make the heart of Temecula Wine Country her permanent home and she purchased a 15-acre piece of vacant land, now known as Laurel Ridge Sport Horses, LLC. After 5 long years of negotiating with the County of Riverside, she finally obtained permits in 2007. It was then that she was able to realize her childhood dream of building a facility, complete with a 22-stall Barnmaster barn, 11 pipe corrals, jump chute, equiciser, dressage court, riding school ring and a large jumping arena with a grob and bank complex. Here, “A” Circuit trainer Liz Hutchinson operates the aptly named Stellar Farms. She has a fantastic group of clients who add even more fun and activity to the tranquil atmosphere at Laurel Ridge.
Liz grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and competed on the “A” Circuit under the tutelage of Andrew Lustig. After graduating in 1994 from the University of California, Santa Cruz, she returned full-time to the show ring and began her professional riding career. Operating as Stellar Farms for the past 11 out of 15 years, she has guided both her students and their horses to great success in the Hunter, Equitation and Jumper rings. Laura describes that Liz “is honest, hard working, and improves every horse she rides. Her horses’ health and happiness is her priority, and it definitely shows when they compete. In fact, I trust her with my own professional training, and many of her clients have leased my horses for lessons and shows while they are here for sale.” It is no wonder then that Liz has been the winner of numerous Year End Zone Awards and countless Championships across the Country — Palm Beach Masters, Raleigh, Ocala, Tuscon, Del Mar and Thermal. She believes in giving her riders a strong foundation in flatwork, and often introduces new and challenging exercises in her lessons. Her years of success has taught her that when a rider feels comfortable with the questions they encounter on course, showing becomes a positive and fun experience for everyone involved. As for the future, Laura plans on continuing to import top European Warmblood Hunters and Jumpers, preparing them for the American show circuit, and selling them to her fellow Amateur riders. In addition, she has recently opened part of the facility to Fallbrook Silver Spurs, a non-profit riding club for physically and emotionally challenged members of the community, founded and run by Jayne Olson. “I feel so lucky to have horses enrich my life, and now I have the opportunity to help someone in need. Jayne works so hard to make it possible for these children to ride, and it’s a beautiful thing to see them smiling because they’re on a horse,” says Laura. FEATURED EQUINE RESCUE Amarylis Farm Equine Rescue & Sanctuary 631.537.7335 ForRascal.com
“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” - Winston Churchill Amaryllis Farm has been in operation since 1989 as an educational facility who’s motto was always: ...”where horsemanship begins!” Horses were saved from auction 1-2 at a time, rehabilitated and placed in forever homes. Quality has always been the focus of Amaryllis; never quantity. The full rescue efforts began in June of 2005 in memory of Rascal: the love of my life. In 2009 we opened Long Island’s first Horse Sanctuary for senior and special needs equines in memory of Aramis. In 2010 we opened the first Farm Sanctuary on the east end in memory of Daisy. We survive day to day striving for strength and stability to ensure the horses with us now and those to come; SECURITY, PEACE and FULL CARE. Our mission is to intercept slaughter-bound former service horses, ponies and mules (lesson, children’s camp, show, race, police, carriage horses) and find them loving homes under the protection of our contract. We offer permanent sanctuary to those equines unable to adapt to an adoptive home, the elderly and special needs equines. We accept back all Amaryllis previously adopted horses when asked. This sets us apart. We have a vision for the future of every horse ever to enter Amaryllis, that they will forever be able to return to the sanctuary, never again to face harm. Help us build this sanctuary strong for them. It has become apparent over the many years that people discard horses like old clothes. Purchased or adopted. Promises are broken especially fast when a horse can no longer be ridden or ‘used’. Amaryllis is here for these horses. Our wish is to care for their ever-increasing needs as they age, while educating the community and new generations of children about the importance of the horse nation. You wouldn’t send your grandmother out into the forest with no shoes or coat and without her dentures, telling her “Happy trails, you are ‘out to pasture’ good luck!” Horses age identical to humans. They cannot eat hay and grass as their teeth worsen, they cannot deal with barefoot issues on hard terrain when their shoes are removed after 20 years. They die slow, painful, neglected deaths. We wish a high maintenance care for every horse in Amaryllis as they age: A hospice to the bridge — love to the end. We present educational lectures throughout Long Island and focus strongly on teaching children to treat all animals with dignity and compassion. The most outspoken are those who profit from their murder. The least heard are those who fight the depravity from within the barns of our nation’s rescued horses. We need YOUR VOICE and we need YOUR SUPPORT.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A HORSE’S LIFE Saving horses requires skill, time, supplies, love, patience and donations: Any donation or gift is deeply appreciated by the horses!

FEATURED EQUINE ARTIST Kimerlee Curyl 323.528.9513 kimerleecuryl.com
“Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.” - Unknown Loving ever ything “horse” from the moment she could breathe, the unfolding of Kimerlee’s life thus far makes perfect sense. The “Hollywood dream” moved her to the west but it was the hear t of a horse that changed ever ything. Working on both sides of the camera Kimerlee has the natural ability of capturing emotion, delivering imagery that has been described as unique, dramatic and evocative. Her first solo show debuted in Los Angeles with record breaking gallery sales. She is represented by one of the countr y’s largest fine ar t publishers, prestigious galleries, as well as international collectors. Her work has been used in numerous adver tising campaigns and product branding. Kimerlee works with all breeds of horses, travels extensively and has been for tunate to photograph some of the most beautiful and expensive horses in the world. She loves them all, yet there is a corner of her hear t that beats faster and belongs to America’s legends, our wild horses. Dedicated to the cause for many years, Kimerlee’s hope is to inspire others, not only to appreciate the beauty of the creatures, but to take an interest in helping preserve their place on this land. The same land that they allowed us to travel upon as we revolutionized this country not that many years ago. Now, sadly, America’s wild horses are facing their final stand as we continue to round them up, keep them in long-term holding and ship them off to destinations “unknown”, slaughter...we are rapidly destroying our nations heritage. Kimerlee firmly believes by the history laid behind us, that we are destroying ourselves in the process. Losing something so sacred to our histor y, so rich to the land and so majestic to our spirits, the time is now to act in their behalf. In 2004, after 15 years of pounding the hollywood pavement, Kimerlee purchased her first horse and along with that, visited a place called Return to Freedom, an American wild horse sanctuar y. “These two events saved my life. My mare who has been the best teacher I have ever experienced and Return to Freedom
is a magical place I’m extremely proud to be par t of. My hear t and soul have grown on this land, and although I travel, immersing myself into enormous herds of America’s wild horses, its here I will always come back to, suppor t and call home. Horses have taught me life’s greatest lessons. It will continue to be my deepest desire to educate through ar t and awareness. We must be the voice for these living legends, they are our heritage. We conquered and built this great nation by holding onto their manes and riding the spirits of their hear ts. To lose them would be a tragically irresponsible disrespect to our past, present and future.” Kimer lee’s wor k can be seen in many prestigious galleries and fine ar t boutiques across the countr y: LosAngeles, C A — http://www.hallwor th.us/hallwor th/Home.html Laguna Beach, C A — http://www.greencubestore.com/ Memphis, TN — http://post31.squarespace.com/ Pasadena, C A — http://www.sanmarinogaller y.com/ To learn more about America’s wild hor ses please visit the following: http://www.returntofreedom.org/ http://www.wildhor sepreser vation.org/index.html Visit Kimer lee on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/KIMERLEE-CURYL-PHOTOGRAPHY/118753974818551
