The Avatar Project For this project, we were instructed to create an avatar for our class name, The Sketchbusters. My concept behind this illustration was to create movement and develop an image that represented myself as well as the name. I decided to use my long hair as movement within the piece and give myself a superhero/ villian look by adding glasses.

The Product Project For this project, we were instructed to draw a realistic image of something of our choice and use techniques of either stippling or crosshatching. The product I chose was a seahorse sculpture that I had sitting in my room. I chose this product because it has amazing texture and a lot of detail. I also chose to use stippling for the illustration because it allowed me to evoke the rough texture better than crosshatching.

Ultimate Bedtime Story Project For this project, we were instructed to choose a phrase from a list and develop a “bedtime story” illustration from it. The phrase I chose was, “He should have been afraid, but he wasn’t.”

From this phrase I decided to draw the image of a boy surrounded by ghostly figures, one of them holding the boy. I decided to use very dark contrast and make the figures inky and almost wispy looking to create a spooky feeling.

A Walk Through the Forest For this project, we were instructed to listen to a variety of sound clips, each clip asking us to imagine we were walking through a forest, and each clip telling us to imagine a certain scene. I decided to illustrate the scene in which I saw a koala bear climbing up a vine, hiding from a giant snake. I chose to illustrate this scene because whenever I imagined it, it was very emotional to me, and I thought the composition worked very well with the size constrictions we were given.

Matte Painting Project For this project, we were instructed to choose an action figure or stationary character to illustrate a background for. I chose a penguin figurine to use for my matte painting and developed the penguin as some sort of giant statue within the mountains. I illustrated penguins migrating to the giant statue because I thought it a comedic interpretation of statue worshipping.

Student Choice Project For this project, we were instructed to choose a sketch or previous project to work with and develop further. I chose a scene from our very first sketchbook project because I found it very abstract and in tune with my own personal style of illustration. In this illustration I focused on the flow of the lines and interaction of the different elements in the piece.
