Jessica Ogden Color Trend Forecasting For a/w 18/19 fash 419-current trends and forecasting
Thoughts from the editor... A woman’s prerogative starts and ends with a woman being able to be whoever she wants to be. And in this day and age, that means she can and will be everything. My color story encompasses four alter egos that an average woman could possess. She loves to incorporate pastels and girlie-frills into everyday looks that remind her of when she was young. She looks to the past to incorporate colors and silhouettes that were once popular into her closet by adding new, fresh twists to them. She wants to stay chic and powerful with bold jewel-tone colors and boss pieces when planning her work Ensembles. And lastly she wants to let loose and be as bright as the streetlights yet sporty for her party girl looks. She does not have to be one style or one color story; she can do it all. And so can A/W 18/19.

The Nostalgic color story is all about comfort. Unique and plush fabrics remind us of what it was like to be a kid. Along with soft collars and reminiscent shearling pullovers, we are obsessed with ruffles, embellishments, and all things girly. To complete the look, we top things off with small bags and shoes meant for Barbie.

The Retro color story speaks to jacquard wools and subtle tweeds in warm orange and brown hues. Where recognizable 70’s silhouettes like flare pants and bulky sweaters make their come back. Smooth, rich velvet takes different forms in stripes, jackets, and dresses alike. The colors alone can transform everyday looks and accessories into retro masterpieces, especially with the use of ‘Ace’ Yellow.

The Polished color story is as strong and independent as the woman who wears it. Accessories that accentuate the powerful women, from embroidered handbags to statement jewelry, are used in this collection. The bull and the lion, seen in these two examples, also act as a motif of strength. Layering, sweaters, and blazers are amongst the key pieces that complement this story. Light knits with hits of sheen and shimmer add just enough extra femininity to complete the look.

The Wild Child color story is all things vibrant and active. Special attention and styling to track pants and plastic puffers take active wear to new heights. Accessories stay simple yet sporty and add just enough street influence to the mix. Fabrics take inspiration from the streets, lights, and glows of urban nightlife. From plastic coated to technology imbedded, these fabrics help carry this story.
