Movement in plan and Section junior year spring 2013 The building is located on Magazine Beach in Cambridge. It servesas a head quaters for cartographers. Through the analysis of the site, the movement around the landscape, through vegetation and up elevation were very important. This building serves as a generator of movement through a promenade in both plan and section while creating interior and exterior spaces.Focusing on the landscape and creating outdoor spatial gatherings. This projects start to incorporate a sustainable notion by reusing storm water.

Sectional Movement >The building is designed to make one move in elevation from one side to the other

Section A 1/16” = 1’

Section B 1/16” = 1’

Section C 1/16” = 1’

MOVEMENT IN PLAN >The interior and exterior paths encourage movement

Storm water System >After the process of cleaning the storm water, the now fresh water is then reused in plumbing systems such as in the bathroom.

Interdisciplinary Outpost Connection, Progression & Completion junior year spring 2013 An outpost is needed to house professionals from different fields to collaborate. The outpost located in the woodland and the idea is to connect the landscape and collaboration together. A journey is created through the use of ramps to bring the ideas of connection, progression, and completion together. Starting from the ground, the journey moves one through the space and up into the trees. The idea of climbing to reach a goal, to reach the end. The journey forces one to wander though the woodland and up into the trees.

Connection

This area serves as a collaborative space for people. This space functions to combine diverse opinions from the professionals who will be working in the building. The notion is to gather their thoughts to create things.

Progression

To develop the ideas, the individuals must have separate spaces to work. Here is the individual work space where the professionals can get creative. They are meant to generate work that advances the idea further. This space serves to progress the professionals’ ideas.

Completion

This is where the final product is placed then viewed by others. This display space serves as the result of a collaborative work group. The final stretch after weeks of combined work.

Movement in Landscape & Collaboration >The notion of moving up into landscape and reaching a goal are connected

moving up to the trees moving up to connection

moving down with the landscape moving down to progression

reaching the heights of the trees reaching the final goal

moving up higher into the trees moving up to completion

Work

An open space that allows connection between the working people. The individual program spaces differ in height; but the openness, deprived of walls, keeps the relationship of the workspace as a whole. This space works as a large single area. It is grounded to the earth; the beginning of the journey.

Bridge

The bridge is the center point of the building. It connects the two main spaces together. The bridge serves as a hinge point; a notion of working towards a goal. It also has complete view of the outside; the woodlands surround it. Traveling through the bridge is like wandering through the trees. The perception of a journey is most evident at this point.

Display

A large open space that is meant to serve as the final stop of the journey. It’s the space where the final product, after weeks of collaborative work, is shown. The space is open towards the descending view. It is the only space raised and supported by posts; it is floating amongst the trees.

Ferry Terminal Sound, Sight & Light junior year fall 2012 Fort Point Channel in Boston has become a popular destination. To contribute to this growth of prominence, a ferry terminal is proposed to generate more traffic. The Old Northern Ave Bridge has also been seen as an eyesore. It has stopped functioning for cars long ago. A ferry terminal will bring a more important role to the bridge; it wil serve as a connection to the harbor and Fort Point Channel. There are five major spaces created to enhance the awarness of sound. Each space has a diverse grouping of sound, sight and light. The elements form a different understanding of how our vision and light can effect the way we percieve and hear sound that surrounds the city and harbor of Boston, MA.

The critical moment where sight and light are taken away and the awareness of sound is heightened. Here is the key point where one can reflect on sound.

9/11 Memorial

A dark abyss of Silence and thoughts junior year fall 2012 Driven by the need for a space of isolation, this memorial is an enclosed, large-scale space for the people of New York City. It isn’t a memorial of the lives lost, but a memorial for the people of this great city who endured this tragedy. This space allows for one to rest and think. It’s about being grounded in a dark abyss that swallows one to the center of the sphere. In the middle the only light source penetrates from beyond and reflects off the small pool of water at the base. Seating incubuses around the space and forms a quiet sitting area for the people of New York City to rest in silence.

Water Taxi Station Architecture as a machine junior year fall 2012 On an hourly basis, the tides in Boston vary in height. The people of Boston are not aware of the difference in tide height throughout the day. With this project, the goal is to create architecture that acts as a measuring tool. To make a tool that creates an awareness to the change in tide height. This water taxi station acts as a machine that allows the architecture to move with the change in tide height.

Tool creates awarness >From afar, the posts are seen moving with the tide

movement in structure >The large structure that connects the gangway back to the deck moves with the tide throughout the day

Market Place Public Implied Space sophomore year fall 2011 The idea is to connect the urban neighborhood with the market, thus keeping a free flowing space is key. This market is designed with a public concept that allows the spaces to feel open and connected to its neighborhood. The spaces are not fully enclosed and are implied by only two or three walls. This notion keeps the space open and unrestrained.

Implied Spaces >Free flowing and open spaces

Hierarchy of space >The roofs differ according to space >Different amounts of light permitted for each space

Urban Spaces >Open to public >Connection to urban city life

>Direct connection into the market

Bus Stop
