The 6th General Membership Meeting /Christmas Party of the UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter, which was held at Han Pao Teahouse Restaurant last Dec.18, 2014, was graced by the presence of DA-5 Director, Arch. Perigrino Baclit, uap. In his inspirational message he shared insights on the upcoming activities of District A5 such as the UAP Joint Area Assembly to be held on February 21 to 25, 2015 at the Waterfront, Cebu City.

THE ARCHITECT’S CREDO I shall work with this general objective that my duty is not only to myself, but also to my God and my country; I shall uphold the ideals, and follow the norms of conduct of a noble profession, and endlessly endeavor to further its just ends; I shall humbly seek success not through the measure of solicited personal publicity, but by industrious application to my work, strive to merit a reputation for quality of service and for fair dealing; I shall ask from all fair remuneration for my services while expecting and asking no profits from any other source; I shall hold the interest of my Client, over and above any self-interest for financial returns; I shall exercise my professional prerogatives always with impartiality and disinterestedness;

REMINDER Your IAPOA Annual Membership Number and Certificate (AY 2013-2014) have expired on June 30, 2014. Relative thereto members who have not paid the P600.00 UAP annual dues and P500 Chapter dues (AY 2014-2015) are enjoined to settle the amount in order to sustain the projects of the Chapter and as a requirement for securing the IAPOA Certificate (AY 2014 -2015). I shall avoid any private business investments or venture which may tend to influence my professional judgment to the detriment of the trust placed upon me; I shall inspire, by my behavior the loyalty of my associates and subordinates, and take upon me the mentorship of the aspirants to the profession; I shall confine my criticisms and praises within constructive and inspirational limits, and never resort to these means to further malicious motives; I shall dedicate myself to the pursuit of creative endeavor towards the goal of enlightened Art and Science, generously sharing with colleagues, friends and strangers alike the benefits of my experience and experiments; So help me God.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The recent UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter’s 6th General Membership Meeting (GMM) / Christmas Party, which was held at the Han Pao Teahouse Restaurant last Dec.18, 2014, was worth remembering especially when everybody, wearing traditional Santa Claus hats, were rejoicing, having fun and excited to win gifts courtesy of our sponsors. The celebration was graced by the presence of DA-5 Director, Arch. Peregrino R. Baclit, Jr., uap , who delivered an inspiring Christmas message as well as insights of what is in line for UAP for 2015. Everybody, including our guests and sponsors, painted the night with an atmosphere filled of companionship and joy in sharing the true spirit of Christmas, the birth our Lord Jesus Christ. For tonight’s 7th GMM, we have invited a highly respected resource speaker, Architect/ Environmental Planner Miguel M. Carpio, who continue to explore and practice both professions and he will highlight on “The Pinoy’s Shifting Choice, Going Vertical?” Let this occasion be one among our milestones for the year 2015. And it will go on and on as we plan for the succeeding years to come, inviting varied personalities who will inspire us, both inside and outside our profession. We welcome ,with pleasure, those who would like to be part of the UAP SJMC family as we go through our endeavor to be of service to our fellowmen . With pride, I would like to inform you that as part of our milestone is to uphold Mandaluyong City through the “Adopt A Barangay Project, providing assistance to its community development projects. CEBU TRIVIA:

On the eve of October 26, 2007, the Officers of the UAP Chapter headed by Arch.Toribio Estaras,uap ,then 2007 UAP SJMC Chapter President and fellow Officers, including the writer attended the 16th National Conference for Architects held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. In our brief visit to Cebu City we marveled at the grandeur of varied sites such as the Mactan Cebu International Airport, the Crown Regency Hotel, the Cebu City Sport’s Club, the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, the Matimco Plant and the Bigfoot Production. In this note, we invite you to participate in the upcoming Joint Area Assembly‌.

OFFICERS’ BOARD MEETING

The UAP San Juan Mandaluyong Chapter (UAP SJMC) Officers, FY 2014-15 held its 11th Board Meeting on January 9, 2015 at Sinangag Express Resto, Worlwide Corporate Center, Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City. . Discussed were:the preparations for the 7th GMM to be held at the MAX' s Restaurant on January.29,2015 And the participation to the Joint Area Assembly to be held on February 20 to 21, 2015 at Waterfront Hotel, Cebu.

SPEAKER’S PROFILE

Architect/Environmental Planner Miguel M. Carpio, PhD

Mike earned the Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree at the University of Santo Tomas in 1975 and took courses towards a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of the Philippines. In 2000, he completed his Masters in Environmental Management and Development at he Asia Pacific School of Economics and Management at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. In 2011, he earned the Doctorate in Development Studies degree at the University of Santo Tomas, Magna Cum Laude, with his dissertation on assessing the many facets of Socialized Housing in the country particularly the Community Mortgage Program. Before joining the academe, he held various key positions in top architectural, planning and construction firms in the country. He also practiced his architecture and planning professions overseas and has presented papers in a number of local and international conferences. A turning point in his career came after completing his scholarship grant awarded by the Australian Agency for International Development in 2000. It was in the middle of this year when he joined Far Eastern University as Executive Director of the Center for Studies on the Urban Environment or FEU-SURE. Later that year, he assumed the Deanship of FEU’s Institute of Architecture and Fine Arts until 2008 when he was appointed as the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, thereafter its Vice President for Academic Services. His current professional affiliations include membership in professional organizations: United Architects of the Philippines; Philippine Institute of Environmental Planning , National Committee on Architecture & Allied Professions of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts , CHED Task Force on Architecture Education and , CHED Committee on Architecture Education ; National Real Estate Authority and the UST College of Architecture Alumni Association . One of his foremost achievements is the honor bestowed upon him by colleagues in the architecture profession, when he was conferred the title of Fellow by the United Architects of the Philippines in April 2005 for having notable contribution to the advancement of the architectural profession in the field of Education. .
