Welcome to my book! My name is Jessica Castro; I’m from Guatemala City and I’m a Graphic Design student at Harding University in Searcy, AR. Since a young age, I have been interested in art; I remember having a sketchbook by my side all the time. In it I had stored drawings of friends, my family, cartoons that I used to watch on TV, and my pets -- mostly everything that was in my life at that time. I have always known that art would have a big influence in my future. Since then, I have been interested in improving my skills and learning new techniques that I can apply to future projects. I believe that for an idea to be successful, we have to experiment with our choices, look for different approaches, explore the possibilities, and not be afraid of the product.
As a graphic designer and artist, I know that in order to have a voice, it is necessary to think outside the box and not be afraid of being different. As a graphic designer, I consider myself to be a critical thinker; I’m a good problem solver and a good generator of ideas. I like details, and for that reason I’m a perfectionist, as I work hard and do whatever it takes to end with a worthy and successful project. I hope you will enjoy my book and that it will spark interest in my work and furthermore, to inspire you.

Series of Ads for Listerine (A brand of antiseptic mouthwash) In this ADS series I combined several techniques like, photography, watercolor and illustration, to recreate scenes of different famous places. The idea was to show the viewer that no matter where you are, it can be New York or Egypt, bad breath can affect your trips, but with Listerine your bad breath can be cooled away.

Series of Posters for I P SCAN (The International Society for Child Abuse and Neglect)
The purpose of this series is to make the public aware that neglect is child abuse. Parents sometime put their social life, careers, or money before their children. That neglect can lead children to find love elsewhere, which could lead to destructive behavior.

KOCO Kids Shoes (children shoe store) My partner and I create a branding campaign for a kid’s shoes store. We branded the logo, stationary, packaging, posters and product. Our concept was to create a store with a fresh look, which inspires children to be creative, and to be healthy. Everything in the store was inspired by fruit and color, even the store’s name KOCO which is a derivation of “coco” that in Spanish means Coconut.

Memphis BBQ Original Flavor The concept is to create a healthy gourmet look to the barbeque sauce. The target consumer cares for their diet, and is looking for a natural food with fewer preservatives. I chose to create an illustration that had a handcrafted feel and used warm colors and textures to support the gourmet concept.
