[ Maardu Water House ] A Celebration of Water on the Post-Mining Landscape
T
he Maardu Water House celebrates water as a process of healing and recovering, juxtaposing the damaged with the pristine, the manmade with the natural, the static with an ever-changing flux. It is a water remediation centre that aims to heal the post-mining landscape with water as a radical programmatic approach for the betterment of the community residing in Maardu. The purification of groundwater and conversion into clean water, for instance, will signify the gradual recovery of the abandoned landscape, in the aim to reappropriate the landscape with a new use to engage the community and its context with its source of clean water supply. Situated along the existing trench to embrace the anthropocenic landscape of mining, the proposal incorporates recreational activities as a retreat for the Soviets community and locals of Maardu. To appreciate the value of clean water on the site, a bath house and outdoor swimming pool are designed as a part of the main program of the Maardu Water House.

The design of the bath house aims to break down
social hierarchies and tensions, in an effort to create social equitable spaces for the users, who can then enjoy the facilities of clean water and the remediated landscape. Besides, it also offers public bathing facilities to the diverse community of Maardu, as a form of gathering space and retreat. Situated at the edge of the trench to frame the anthropocenic views of the landscape, the bath house will act as a social remediator to the users consisting of the Russian community from the village of Kallavere and the Estonians from the small town of Maardu.

[ The Museum of Terror ] Shock. Build. Mourn. Hope.
This museum depicts a post traumatic architecture,
which will hightlight the four stages of transition through conflict in the city of London. The museum features four main spaces that is planned according to the aftermath; shock, build, mourn and hope. This four spaces is a imediate response to the conflict of the city. The design of the museum seek to explore the negative spaces in the city of London, focusing on the underground typology where the architecture is expressed in a distressed manner to depict trauma and conflict in the city. The ‘bombscape’ of the aftermath is depicted to show the idea of urban trauma in the city due to the bombing threats of terrorism.

Thinking of the site as a palimpsest allows designers to utilise the site’s layers of history to reveal aspects of the site, or even to add a new layer of selfconscious fiction. Using principles of collage and juxtaposition, history is seen not as linear phenomena, but as layer of discrepancies between a past event (history) and present recall (memory). (Nesbitt 1996: 175)

SHOCK
Following several bombing events which took place in the city of London, the space aims to represent the dystopian landscape of the aftermath. The ‘bombscape’ of the event is depicted through these spaces, allowing visitors to experience the traumatic memories through material damage.
BUILD
Build is often the following phase to shock where reconstruction takes place. Buildings are built more resilient than before and the architectural language changes to accommodate these. The space will show the growth of new architectural interventions that is overlaid on past destructive spaces.
MOURN
In the context of London, there are no present evidence of destructive events as the site has undergone reconstruction. This space aims to mourn for the loss of memories of past events. The trauma of past events are rekindled to inform a new understanding of the history of the site and also the city of London.
HOPE
“The role of the past is key to the construction of the future. Hope brings the idea of forming the spaces in the present for the future.

[ Theatre Street ] Architecture with a Social Impact
The proposed program, a cultural theatre will be the catalyst for the rejuvenation of a cultural site in Petaling Street, also known as Chinatown, by promoting the dying cultural arts of Chinese operas which was used to be an entertainment among the locals. The program aims to target the youth as the main users group to learn the the art of chinese opera and
to rehabilitate the Chinese community back to Chinatown. Also the program intends to replace the role of the Han Keng Chinese Opera Association which is going to be demolished for the proposal of the MRT development by the government.

[ Proposed Maritime Park ] Redevelopment of an Existing Car Park
The Maritime Park, which serves as a public square offers a free public open space to the city allowing civic and recreational activities, like public gathering, outdoor filming or even performances. Also, events like the Georgetown Festivals and other cultural festivals and ceromonies can take place. The century-old trees along the sites would be retained and to be integrated with the new landscape and structure, providing greenery to the urban site.
Aerial View of the Proposed Maritime Park
The proposed scheme is an
urban infill by redeveloping a formal open car park into an active network of public spaces. This development strives to improve the current car park situation and at the same time revitalise the urban fabric of Weld Quay by creating recreational, commercial and office spaces for the public. Optimising the existing space with consideration to its historical context, the site are transformed into active spaces by introducing a Maritime Park, cabin hotel, plug-in offices and retails, soho, eateries and studios. In addition, the existing open car park will be transferred to the basement. The Portals which take form as a conservatory come with plug-in containers, will served as a connectivity
for these buildings. The Straits Hotel lays along Weld Quay, having its skyline facing towards the sea as a welcoming gesture. Containers which is used as the building material for the hotel responded to the context and the existence of Port Swettenham. With sensitive treatment to the space, the arcade is strategically placed where the arrival of visitor via jetty is well acknowledged. The revitalisation of an existing dormant space into a balanced public/ commercial and workplace shall make wave of urban revitalisation to the surrounding urban fabric such as the warehouse, the pierheads and etc. This is to be carried out in the wake of Georgetown as the World Unesco Heritage.

The house is located in a
gated community in Sungai Buloh, Malaysia. The beauty of this bungalow is having lush greeneries which is very much favoured by the owner. Minor renovation is done to enhance the space to be more outdoor friendly and in sync to the surrounding nature. Attentive details are given care to the refurbishment of the house according to the lifestyle of the family.
The proposed study model of the house where red bricks and trellises were added to give a character to the house.

The design intention of the retreat home is to blend with the surrounding trees, with minimal impact to the site. The house is inspired by the vernacular design of a traditional Malaysian house, built on stilts, to allow for natural cooling.
