ABOUT JESUIT DALLAS
Founded in 1942, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas is a Catholic, private, independent, all-boys high school. Following the 500 year-old Jesuit tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Jesuit Dallas strives to form young men into leaders who are open to growth, intellectually competent, committed to working for justice, religious, loving, and physically fit. Currently, Jesuit enrolls over 1,100 boys from 170 different middle schools. Admission to Jesuit Dallas is open to qualified young men of all faiths and denominations, without regard to race or national origin. Prospective students are chosen by an admissions committee on the basis of past school performance, academic and personal recommendations, a competitive entrance examination, a personal interview, and demonstrated promise of future development. In athletics, Jesuit Dallas has claimed 125 team state championships dating back to 1954. Most of the titles were won as members of the Texas Christian Interscholastic League (TCIL), a precursor to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) of which Jesuit was a member until 2000. In 2003, Jesuit Dallas, along with Strake Jesuit (Houston), became the first private schools to be admitted to the University Interscholastic League (UIL), which serves as the governing body for Texas high school athletics. Since joining the UIL, Jesuit has captured 74 district championships. In 2010, the Jesuit Dallas soccer team became the first private school team in the history of the UIL to capture a state championship. The Ranger baseball team captured its first UIL state title in 2016 and soccer added a second UIL crown in 2017. Jesuit rugby won Texas Rugby Union championships in 2001 and 2010, while the lacrosse program won backto-back Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) titles in 2016 and 2017 before adding its third title in 2021. The crew program routinely ranks as one of the strongest in the country, and has secured seven consecutive berths in the USRowing Youth National Championships.

PRESIDENT’S LETTER Dear friends and fans, Welcome to Jesuit Dallas! I am so grateful for our parents, alumni, faculty, and friends for supporting our students, and blessed that our young men are able to showcase their athletic talents while creating a wonderful opportunity for community. As Jesuit educators, we place an emphasis on the formational life lessons learned on the playing fields, in the rehearsal halls, and as members of various clubs, teams, and organizations. We anticipate the upcoming year to be full of great potential for our young men to grow, excel, and benefit from the rigors, challenges, and joys of competition. I would like to remind us all that the success of any Jesuit athletic contest is not measured solely in the score, but in the positive impact these experiences have on developing each of our young men and adding to his formation in all areas described in the Profile of a Graduate: Intellectually Competent, Loving, Religious, Open to Growth, Physically Fit, and Committed to Justice. Our hope is that each young man has availed himself of the opportunities provided by Jesuit, taken his God-given blessings and talents in all the areas of his being, and maximized these gifts in a life that reflects thanksgiving to a good and gracious God. God’s Blessings to each of you and Go Rangers!

HEAD COACH BRIAN JONES Entering his 13th season as the Jesuit Dallas baseball head coach, Brian Jones has anchored a resurgence for Jesuit Dallas that included the program’s first University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State Championship in 2016. Jones enters the 2022 season with a 301-94-9 record as the Rangers’ head coach, an overall record of 466-197-9, and a 127-11-0 record against district opponents. In 2021, Jesuit Dallas advanced to the postseason for the 11th consecutive year, capturing its 10th straight bi-district championship with a two-game series sweep over against Arlington and finishing the year with a 32-6 record. The Rangers went undefeated in District 7-6A and captured the eighth district title under Jones. Jesuit’s baseball team was led by Jordan Lawlar ’21, who became the third player under the tutelage of Coach Jones to be named Gatorade Texas Player of the Year before being selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the sixth overall pick of the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft. Lawlar was one of four Rangers to be named to the Texas Sports Writers’ Association (TSWA) All-State team, joining Connor Chavez ’21, Nick Lazzara ’21, and Jake Storey ’22. In 2016, Jones led Jesuit to a 36-8-2 record and the UIL state title with a 6-2 victory over San Antonio Johnson on June 11. The historic win marked the first state championship in baseball for a private institution at any level of the UIL. Jones concluded the season by earning USA Today/Family Insurance and Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Texas Coach of the Year honors, and was named District Coach of the Year for the seventh time. The Rangers’ 2016 lineup was anchored by Kyle Muller ’16, the consensus National Player of the Year. Muller was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the 44th pick of the MLB Amateur Draft and made his major league debut against the Boston Red Sox on June 16, 2021. Jones led the Rangers to the first state tournament appearance in program history in 2015, a season that saw Jesuit secure a 35-4-2 record, a 14-0 mark in district play, and a No. 3 national ranking heading into the state tournament. A 13-1 win over MacArthur marked a personal milestone for Jones on April 26, 2015 as he captured his 300th career victory. Jones would add his 400th career win on Friday, May 11, 2018 with a 5-4 win over Oak Ridge in the UIL Area Round. The impressive list of players that have competed under the leadership of Coach Jones include numerous NCAA Division I players and a breakout star in MLB. Jones coached 2011 Gatorade Texas Player of the Year and current Washington Nationals first baseman Josh Bell ’11, who was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the MLB Amateur Draft with the No. 61 pick and later finished third in the 2017 National League Rookie of the Year vote after breaking the N.L. record for most home runs by a switch-hitting rookie. Jones enjoyed success on the diamond from a young age, as he was a member of the AABC Sandy Koufax National Champions in 1982. Attending W.T. White High School, Jones was a four-time first-team all-district pick, received Dallas Morning News Sophomore of the Year honors and was the area’s leading hitter as a junior. He attended Northwood University, where he was picked to play in the 1989 Junior College All-Star game. A member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, Texas High School Coaches Association and United Baseball Club. Jones is a former president of the North Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and was voted the regional director for the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) in January of 2016. Jones is the father of two boys: Tyler and Tanner.

Martinez is a mortgage loan officer with Cross Country Mortgage and has provided mortgages to many in the Jesuit Dallas community. A baseball trivia connoisseur since childhood, Martinez is well known for his famous, middle of the third inning trivia question. One of the long-standing traditions that make Jesuit Dallas baseball incredibly special, Martinez is a true “Man for Others.”

NAME THAT SENIOR! How many years have you played baseball? 12 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? I’ve just always wanted to play baseball. My parents signed me up for tee ball and I’ve been playing ever since.
1
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: When I got called a pitcher only. I hit a home run that hit the top of the fence. The video made it onto Instagram with the caption “That is PO power.” The video went viral with 12,000 likes. Proudest baseball moment: Committing to play baseball at Northern Colorado and signing in front of the team after a lift. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Make it to the third round of the playoffs.
How many years have you played baseball? 12 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? I would watch Derek Jeter because I heard about the work that he put in. I wanted to be just like him when I grew up.
2
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: I took three pitches in an at bat. The umpire forgot how many balls there were and gave me the walk. Proudest baseball moment: My cousins came in from out of town to watch my game and I hit two triples. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Enjoy my last year playing baseball.
How many years have you played baseball? 13 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? My grandfather.
3
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: Tripping over second base going for a fly ball. Proudest baseball moment: The undefeated World Series run for the 12-U USSSA Team. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Beat Luke May in ping pong.
How many years have you played baseball? 11 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? My mom. She knew it would help me grow as a person on and off the field.
4
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: Last year, I was put in to pitch the last inning of a close game. I was supposed to fake a pick-off, but I threw the ball into center field. Proudest baseball moment: When we won that same game that I pitched in and I got the save. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Beating Coach Pointer in fungo golf.

NAME THAT SENIOR! How many years have you played baseball? 10 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? My dad inspired me. He would take my older brother Sam and I to Texas Ranger games and teach us about the game, which had me begging him to sign me up for a team.
5
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: In my varsity pitching debut against Nolan Catholic, I only allowed two runs, but both were off bombs. Also when Coach Jones tried to sell his condo in Colorado to anyone that wanted to go skiing. Proudest baseball moment: I hit a walk-off grand slam my freshman year in my first game back from breaking my thumb. My parents weren’t there to see it, which was good because I wasn’t supposed to be playing since the doctor said it wasn’t fully healed. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Ball with my brothers, win district, make a long playoff run, then graduate.
How many years have you played baseball? 14 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? My family. I come from a baseball and softball family.
6
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: Knocking out an umpire because I couldn’t get a bunt down. Proudest baseball moment: Competing with USA Baseball, competing in a playoff game. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Getting past the second round of the playoffs.
How many years have you played baseball? 14 years.
7
Who inspired you to play baseball? My parents. They signed me up. Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: Hitting .160 during my junior year. Proudest baseball moment: Whenever I hit a home run. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Graduating.
How many years have you played baseball? 15 years. Who inspired you to play baseball? My dad.
8
Funniest or most embarrassing baseball moment: Being called “refund” by Coach Pointer. Proudest baseball moment: Hitting a grand slam in the playoffs. What is on your Jesuit Dallas bucket list? Win state.

MY FAVORITE THING ABOUT JESUIT BASEBALL IS...THE FRIENDS I HAVE AND HOW I CAN JUST NOT WORRY ABOUT SCHOOL OR ANYTHING ELSE STRESSING ME OUT. I LISTEN TO MUSIC AN HOUR BEFORE WARM-UP, THEN IF I’M PITCHING THAT DAY I TRY TO SLOW DOWN MY HEARTBEAT AND GET IN THE RIGHT HEADSPACE. MY FAVORITE COACH JONES SAYING IS...WHEN WE ARE IN BOOT CAMP AND HE YELLS “HALFWAY!” FAVORITE MLB TEAM OR PLAYER? TEXAS RANGERS, CLAYTON KERSHAW.
