With a range of apprenticeships on offer, including hairdressing, beauty therapy, wellbeing and holistic therapies, and barbering, there’s something for everyone.

HAIRDRESSING APPRENTICESHIPS

If you’re looking to train up a new team member in your hairdressing salon, look no further than our

Hairdressing Level 2 apprenticeship. Your apprentice will work alongside experienced professionals, learning cutting, styling, colouring, and perming techniques. One of the most critical components of the apprenticeship is consultation skills, where they will learn how to communicate effectively with clients, understand their needs and expectations, and make recommendations on suitable hair treatments and styles

Your apprentice will learn about different hair colouring techniques, such as permanent, semi-permanent, and temporary colouring, and how to use them safely and effectively. Perming techniques will also be covered, as well as the blow-drying and finishing of hair.

As part of the program, they will also develop skills in health and safety protocols, including personal hygiene and safety practices. Learning about the different types of hair and scalp, how to use various hair care products correctly, and understand the potential hazards and risks associated with working in a hairdressing salon.

For those looking to take their hairdressing skills to the next level, the Advanced and Creative Hairdressing apprenticeship is the way to go. This exciting program is designed to help your apprentice develop their skills and unleash their creativity, enabling them to work as a self-motivated professional who

can manage themselves and others when required. Your apprentice will be able to provide top-quality service, working to the highest standards, while continuously developing their personal and professional skills.

At the core of the Level 3 Hairdressing apprenticeship is the opportunity to learn and master a range of essential skills and knowledge needed to become an advanced and creative hair professional. These include creative restyles and precision cutting techniques, allowing the apprentice to create unique and personalized styles for their clients. They will also get to grips with colour correction and creative colouring services, smoothing and strengthening systems, and even researching fashion-forward trends to create, plan and promote a collection of hairstyle looks that reflect their, and the salon’s individuality, designing a range of looks to create a fashion-forward collection of hairstyles showcasing their creativity and innovation.

Throughout the apprenticeship, they will learn how to maintain effective and safe methods of working, ensuring you always provide a professional and safe service to your clients. Learning in-depth consultation and complex analysis of the hair, allowing them to give clients tailored advice on future services and products.

BEAUTY THERAPY APPRENTICESHIPS

If beauty is more your thing, then the Kleek Level 2 Beauty Therapy apprenticeship is the perfect starting point to take your salon to the next level!

During the apprenticeship, your team members will undergo training and assessments on their knowledge and understanding of beauty therapy services, ensuring they are fully equipped to provide top-quality beauty services to your clients. These will be completed by your dedicated Kleek Educator, ensuring your apprentices are trained to the highest standard and meet the requirements of the apprenticeship.

Through the apprenticeship, your apprentice will be provided with the skills and knowledge to offer a range of beauty treatments, including hand and nail treatments, foot treatments, facial treatments, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, make-up application, waxing services, and basic massage treatments.

Once your team members have completed the program, they will be fully qualified beauty therapists, equipped to offer a wide range of high-quality beauty services to your clients. This not only enhances the reputation of your salon but also increases the range of services you can offer to your clients, setting your business apart from the competition.

Moreover, with the level 2 beauty therapy apprenticeship serving as a foundation, your team members can choose to further their education with other apprenticeships, allowing them to specialise in specific areas of beauty therapy and expand their skillset even further.

With a focus on holistic treatments, the Kleek Apprenticeships level 3 wellbeing and holistic therapist apprenticeship covers everything from anatomy and physiology to aromatherapy, colour therapy, crystal healing, holistic massage therapies, Indian head massage, spa therapies, thermal therapies, zone therapies, and more.

But it’s not just about the treatments themselves. Apprentices will also learn about consultation and lifestyle, running a salon business effectively, and health and safety to ensure they’re providing the best possible service to clients in a safe and professional environment.

The program is designed to help apprentices become well-rounded beauty therapists with a deep understanding of the body, mind, and spirit connection. And as a salon owner, you’ll benefit from having a team member who is passionate about offering a holistic approach to beauty, as well as someone who is equipped to take on more responsibility in the salon as they work towards becoming a fully qualified therapist.

Or you could choose the Advanced Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship offered by Kleek Apprenticeships!

With this program, your apprentices will learn the necessary skills to perform and adapt advanced manual, facial, and body therapies. This includes Swedish body massage, pre-blended aromatherapy oils, stone therapy treatments, galvanic and micro-current techniques, microdermabrasion, low-intensity LED light therapy, skin-warming devices, high-frequency and radio frequency treatments, electrical muscle stimulation, and lymphatic drainage equipment.

In addition to technical skills, the program also covers important theoretical knowledge and business skills such as health and safety policies and protocols, and how to secure, maintain, and promote business growth through continual professional development.

SPA MONTAGE INTRODUCES VIRTUAL REALITY TREATMENT

Montage Hotel’s Spa Montage has introduced The Five Senses treatment at its flagship location in Laguna Beach, California, an exclusive treatment that uses virtual reality technology from Natura Bisse to encourage guests to fully immerse themselves into a state of mindfulness.

Spa Montage is the first spa in the United States to use Natura Bisse’s Mindful Touch virtual reality technology. The 150-minute treatment is available to Spa Montage guests and locals for $2,000. The VR headset is worn for eight minutes at the beginning of the treatment, using audio and immersive visual elements to help guests focus on breathing and mindfulness and prepare for the rest of the treatment experience. The virtual reality component is intended to keep guests’ minds from wandering and to encourage them to concentrate beyond their current state.

To complement the VR sight and sounds, the treatment begins with a singing bowl and a taste of honey, followed by a foot cleanse, detox mask for hands and feet, full body massage, anti-aging facial and a dark chocolate treat to round out the sensory service.

“Thanks to the combination of mindfulness techniques and virtual reality, the clients become more aware than ever before of their senses, especially of the incredible power of touch, the first sense

that the human being develops,” said Patricia Fisas, senior vice president & research and innovation officer, Natura Bissé Group. “Every touch awakens some of the millions of receptors on our skin and triggers the release of oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine, known as ‘happy neurochemicals’, related to positive mood and feelings. In addition, the levels of cortisol are reduced,

one of the hormones released in response to stress.”

The Five Senses treatment was created to pay homage to Montage Laugauna Beach’s 20th anniversary this year.

“This year is the 20th anniversary of Montage Hotels & Resorts, celebrating the flagship property, Montage Laguna Beach, that first opened its doors in February 2003. The number twenty represents harmony and balance. The Five Senses treatment was created to pay homage to the anniversary year’s significance while providing a more balanced life to guests of the resorts,” said Kristin Carpenter, director of spa & retail at Montage Laguna Beach.

THE LONE WOLF RETREAT EXPLORES MEN’S WELLBEING & SPIRITUALITY

The Lone Wolf retreat takes place from April 14 to April 16 at the enLiven at the Green River in Sandgate, Vermont, and includes activities like yoga curated for men’s bodies, outdoor exercises, self-inquiry workshops and meditation, among others.

The Lone Wold retreat is led by Paul Menard, the director of Karuna Yoga and Retreat Healing Arts Center in Northampton, Massachusetts. Menard considers the retreat a unique opportunity for men to explore their inner spiritual considerations that are not typically promoted to men.

“Men are trained not to ask themselves these (spirituality) questions, or do so in a way that is hidden from everything else,” Menard said. “For some reason, spirituality is not thought of as a masculine practice. That’s why it’s so necessary. That’s why now is the right time to be asking these questions. Our roles are shifting. Who are we now? These questions can be so uncomfortable that we can’t give them appropriate time.”

Self-inquiry workshops during the retreat are designed to develop

relationship-building skills that can be used at home and the workplace. There will also be engaging activities that utilize the tranquil environment, including winter hikes, snowshoeing and meditative walks.

“The space and location really allow for the chance to get away,” Menard said. “There is nothing like rural Vermont. Will get out into the woods maybe the mountains. We will have the opportunity to test our comfort zone with things like optional hikes and cold water plunges. But even if you use this opportunity as a chance to get away, there’s so much to gain from that.”

Daily yoga during the retreat will focus on the mental benefits of the exercise as much as the physical benefits. Menard believes the environment, from the location to the people around them, will allow men to feel most comfortable and accessible to inner growth.

“Yoga is also very much a practice of the mind, and a spotlight on men’s mental health could also be tested by a different lens,” Menard said. “The time away, specifically in

retreat, to reflect, rest and quiet the mind also builds mental elasticity. Men can benefit from being in a group of men who may be feeling or experiencing the same things, based on cultural norms and pressures.”

The retreat starts with a Friday arrival at 4:00 p.m. and finishes with a final closing circle workshop and departure at noon on Sunday. Packages start at single occupancy for $1105 or double occupancy for $908. Visit enLiven Vermont’s official website for more information and to book your spot in the Lone Wolf Retreat.

“I suppose that the simple answer to what makes this retreat different is that this retreat is for men, catered specifically to the male perspective,” Menard said. “Perhaps the most important concept for any retreat is in the name itself: “retreat.” Retreating from everything else so that you can work on yourself. That is the goal. You are the goal.”

NEW INVENTION SUPPORTS CHILDREN IN MANAGING THEIR MENTAL WELLBEING FROM HOME

• Child mental health care referrals up by 39% in the last year

• Studies show mindfulness reduces anxiety, boosts test scores, builds resilience, improves family relationships and sleep.

• New product launching in time for Children’s mental health week –6th-12th February

• Stix Mindfulness are aiming to support all families, and particularly those that are on waiting lists for mental health care support

8 Fitness & Beauty Update

This week, tech-for-good start-up Stix Mindfulness launches a new product with the aim to support children’s mental wellbeing through fun, interactive mindfulness activities.

Their new device, The Stix Remotes, aims to support children’s mental wellbeing by guiding them through a variety of fun, therapeutic activities; involving balancing, deep breathing, guided meditations and more. Children can track progress and earn age appropriate rewards on the Stix app, encouraging continued practice through positive reinforcement.

The award-winning innovation has been designed for 5 to 12 year olds in response to the alarming rise in mental health care referrals amongst young people. An estimated one in six children and young people in the UK now have a diagnosable mental health condition, and many may continue to have these problems into adulthood.

The benefits of mindfulness are well researched – not only does mindfulness help to reduce anxiety and stress, but it also improves focus, emotional regulation, sleep and family relationships. Stix Mindfulness have been collaborating with Brunel University London to create a mindfulness programme built into their technology, that presents a journey for children to progress through, developing different wellbeing techniques along the way.

“All children can benefit from developing a mindfulness practice at a young age – I started using a mindfulness app when I was 17 years old to support exam stress, and realised soon after that it would have benefited me throughout my entire school career had I started at a young age” – Liam Murphy, Co-Founder of Stix Mindfulness.

Stix Mindfulness is unique in the way mindfulness is introduced to children. They comprise of two interactive remotes, one held in each hand, that guide the child through mindful activities such as ‘Belly Breathing’ and ‘Ball of Light’. The Stix Remotes monitor their movements and provide feedback through audio based instructions, lights and vibrations to keep them focused and engaged.

After completing mindfulness activities, children can sync back up to the app, where they are then rewarded with badges and stars, which can be used on the app to customise their own mindful monster. Liam says “We spoke with families and found that a key driver to continuing healthy habits at home is being rewarded – children value rewards – and so we decided that this would be central for our product offering to encourage children to develop a mindfulness practice”

Lily, aged 7, from London, said, “Stix helps me when I’ve had a stressful day of school or I need to calm down at the end of the day. I love using them before I go to sleep as it relaxes me. They are really amazing!”

The University of Portsmouth has partnered with Technogym to unveil the state-of-the-art Ravelin Sports Centre Gym

The University of Portsmouth is a dynamic, forwardthinking university with ambitions to be the top modern university in the UK.

The all-new Ravelin Sports Centre building is a multi-purpose site open to staff, students, and the local community. Along with teaching facilities it contains a 175-station Technogym gym, studios, climbing wall, ski simulator, a 25m pool and an eight-court sports hall.

The University of Portsmouth’s priority is providing a quality education experience to its 25,000 students, which includes supporting student welfare and wellbeing throughout their time in higher education.

Investment in the campus and in student services is vital to achieving these visions and ambitions. The new sports centre and gym will encourage active lifestyle participation, support elite athletes in their goals, and help members of the community improve their fitness and wellbeing.

The new sports centre is an outstanding facility with a focus on sustainability, a diverse and accessible range of facilities and state of the art

equipment. Situated at the heart of the campus which is itself in the centre of the city, it serves as a welcoming beacon for participation in physical activity.

FULLY-EQUIPPED TECHNOGYM GYM

The University worked in partnership with Technogym to design and equip the new space. It features 175 stations, with the most cutting-edge equipment Technogym offers, including Technogym Bike and Bench, Skillrun and Skillmill, Skillrow format and Skillbike format. FOUNDER HAIR LOSS STORY: INSPIRING CONFIDENCE WITH BREAKTHROUGH HAIR PRODUCT

Did you know that over 50% of women suffer from hair loss during their lifetime? This can wreak havoc on a person’s self-confidence – as we’ve seen with Jada Pinkett-Smith’s moving story of late.

THERE ARE MANY reasons for hair loss, from stress and menopause to post-partum hormone changes, overstyling and skin conditions.

Alopecia affects 15 in 10,000 people in the UK and today, more and more women are coming forward to share their experiences of the condition.

Nosheen Choudhry struggled for years with alopecia and telogen effluvium – a skin disorder that causes hair to shed from the scalp.

A woman from a long line of mothers, sisters, aunts and daughters with strong, beautiful hair, Nosheen’s acute awareness of her hair and skin conditions led to embarrassment, anxiety and body image issues. She felt inspired to find a solution to help herself and other women dealing with the same problems.

Nosheen Hair Oil was born out of this struggle. A blend of 100% organic and natural cold-pressed oils, the formula is based on an ancient recipe handed down over generations, passed from grandmother to mother and then daughters. Blended with modern science and Nosheen’s tireless and dedicated research.

Nosheen Hair Oil scooped a coveted Highly Commended accolade in the haircare treatment category of the Asos Beauty Awards 2022. Each ingredient in the formula supports stronger, healthier hair and nourishes the scalp, encouraging new hair to grow thicker, fuller and faster. For optimal results, the hair oil can be massaged into the scalp using the fingertips or a scalp massager.

Since launching in November 2020, Nosheen Hair Oil has helped numerous customers to achieve their hair goals. From women dealing with post-partum and post-menopausal hair loss; men, women and children experiencing post-chemotherapy hair loss or alopecia in its various forms, through to those who are simply looking to improve their hair health and have healthier, shiner and fuller hair.

The formula is vegan, cruelty-free, organic and eco friendly and is suitable for all hair types. It can be used on children’s hair, to soften and thicken beard hair and to treat stress and hormone-induced hair issues for people of all ages.
