Pump Technology Ltd. were recently contacted by a client known for their work in all areas of construction - residential, education, healthcare, leisure and commercial, who had been asked by the owners of an industrial site in Berkshire to convert the usage of a single warehouse into two separate units, each incorporating offices, kitchen facilities and toilets.
PUMP TECHNOLOGY LTD’S EXPERTISE MAKES PUMP STATION SELECTION SIMPLE!
The client’s team studied the drainage options and decided that the only practical and economic solution would be to install a small pumping station. The site plans and levels were given to Pump Technology Ltd, who specialize in providing wastewater and sewage pumping solutions.
Pump Technology’s in-house consultant quickly sized and specified a below ground pumping station which perfectly matched the client’s needs and budget. He was also able to discuss the equipment selection with Building Control, ensuring the correct approval for the connection of services to the public sewer.
Due to the location of kitchens and toilets the chosen “PumpMatic” 75/1000 station was installed within the footprint of the warehouse. The discharge run is approximately 70 meters, with a small rise of just over 1 meter. The specification included two robust Sulzer Piranha submersible cutter sewage pumps, with a control panel for automatic duty standby operation and a high-level alarm. In addition, a double sealed pedestrian cover was supplied to cater for the internal location of the tank.
PumpMatic pumping stations are manufactured within the Pump Technology Group, enabling them to fully control the high build quality and ensure on-time delivery.
The client commented “We completed a simple clock diagram showing the relative position and elevations of inlets and that of the pumping chamber outlet prior to the manufacture of the tank. The equipment arrived on site, on time and with all the ports aligned accurately to our piping plan”
After installation, the PumpMatic was commissioned by Pump Technology Ltd, and will be supported in the future by an annual maintenance and repair contract.

THE POWER OF COPPER: AN ESSENTIAL MATERIAL FOR EVERYDAY LIFE
Copper is one of the most versatile materials on the planet and, throughout history, it has played a key part in bringing about change, inventions, and new opportunities across society.
Despite being aware of copper’s aptitude as a plumbing and construction material, many people are less aware of how essential copper actually is to everyday life. It’s used throughout homes, hospitals, public transport, and office spaces; as well as in renewable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines.
So just how essential is copper to everyday life?
Homes and transport
In your home, you’ll find copper running through your walls, supplying water from your boiler to your bathroom and kitchen, powering your shower and providing hot water to your taps.
As well as being the sustainable choice for
plumbing systems, copper is an everyday essential around the rest of your home. It’s found in the wiring of household electronics and appliances such as your kettle, microwave, oven, and television.
It’s also a key material for heating homes, not just in traditional central heating systems but in sustainable heating alternatives such as air source heat pumps. Many heat pumps rely on copper pipes in order to improve efficiency, as copper is a superior conductor of heat so can withstand large variations in temperature without expansion or contraction issues.
What’s more, flow rate and pressure drops must be considered when choosing which
pipes to use in heat pumps. As well as having serious environmental problems, plastic pipes have a bore size which is considerably smaller than copper and a smaller internal area, which has a dramatic effect on flow characteristics. If installers select plastic pipe instead of copper without checking the size correctly, this could have a negative effect on the heat pump’s performance. It’s clear that copper is a key
material for sustainable heating methods, saving consumers money and reducing their carbon footprint.
Outside of the home, copper is essential in both cars and public transport. It can be found in the wiring of electric car chargers, as well as your car’s brake lines. It’s also vital in keeping public transport running, powering our train lines and being used in the brake lines of trains and buses, ensuring vehicles start and stop safely and efficiently.
Office spaces
Copper piping is as essential in our office spaces as it is in our homes and transport systems, as it has the capability to effectively heat or cool large spaces. When supplying hot water to busy offices, copper is chosen because of its durability, reducing the risk of leaks and other plumbing problems.
In fact, copper is so durable that it is used in
Sweden’s
the radioactive waste for long-term storage. The canisters are required to keep their integrity for at least 100,000 years but are thought to last five times that time as copper ensures the safety and longevity of the solution.
As well as being found in the pipework in the ceiling above your office, copper is used in the wiring of computers, printers, and other devices that are vital in offices. Put simply, we wouldn’t be able to work without it!
Hospitals
In addition to our homes and office spaces, copper is an essential in hospitals too. It’s one of the only materials trusted to supply medical grade gases, such as oxygen, to patients’ bedsides with no leaks or contamination. Additionally, it has antimicrobial properties which help to protect the health of patients, with studies showing that it can reduce infection rates by 58%.
What makes copper an everyday essential?
Copper’s widespread usage across the home, office, and medical environments, as well as within innovations, is thanks to its ability to be infinitely recycled, without any loss of performance or properties. This ability ensures it will continue to be an everyday essential for generations to come.
Copper has been recycled and reused for as long as the material itself has been in use and there is a fully developed scrap collecting infrastructure which has existed for centuries.
When copper pipes come to the end of their life, they are taken to a scrap merchant and are recycled in their entirety. They simply go into the furnace and are melted down to form a billet of copper, which is stretched out, cut to size, and made into brand new pipes. This process does not affect the performance or properties of the new pipes – copper used once will be identical to that used 100 or 1,000,000 times.
As a result, almost half of Europe’s copper demand is being met by recycled materials and at least 65% of all copper ever produced is still in circulation today. And even in its recycled form, the material can stand large variations in temperature, with very minimal expansion or contraction issues, unlike plastic pipes.
From homes and hospitals, to transport and offices, copper is the material of the future. Thanks to its superior quality, safety, and ability to be infinitely recycled, it is playing a vital part in our everyday lives, creating a more sustainable future for everyone.

Throughout October, November and December, any MagnaClean filter installed in a home and warranty registered in Adey ProClub, will be entered into a prize draw. At the end of each month a winner will be picked at random from the registered warranties and both the heating engineer and the homeowner will win their gas heating bills back for the month, up to the value of £500.
Then, in January 2023, one winning MagnaClean filter warranty will be selected from all the eligible entries over the three months, and both the heating engineer and the homeowner will receive three months’ gas heating bills back, up to the value of £1500.
“We know for many people that the ongoing energy crisis, which has seen bills soar, is extremely worrying,” says Adey marketing director, Claire Miller. “Results from a recent survey of 2000 homeowners that we carried out revealed that 76% of people would like to reduce their energy bills from making improvements to their heating system, but more than half (52%) are unaware that it is water circulating through the system that is the most common cause of breakdown and inefficiency.
“That means there’s a huge opportunity for installers to talk to their customers about the importance of looking after their heating systems and encouraging them to fit a MagnaClean, with the added benefit of being entered into the prize draw on top of that.
“And with up to 7% yearly saving in gas usage and up to 47% improvement in radiator heat output through ADEY Best Practice, it’s an investment that has huge long term benefits.”
Win back the cost of your heating bill
For full terms and conditions of entry, please visit: adey.com/win-your-heating
Recognising the part that installers can play in helping to reduce their customers’ energy usage, Adey has launched a new competition that will see installers and their customers winning back the cost of their monthly gas heating bills.
CALLING ALL GREEN HEATING HEROES
Worcester Bosch has announced the relaunch of its consumer sustainability campaign and is looking to recruit installers to sign up to become ‘Green Heating Heroes’.
The aim of the campaign is to help householders think ‘greener’ when it comes to their home heating and those who enlist will be part of a UK wide ensemble of installers committed to providing support and advice to customers.
Each installer who signs up will receive a Green Hero t-shirt, van sticker and campaign social content to promote their green credentials to their customers. Later this month, they’ll also receive new guidance in the form of a toolkit full of helpful facts and information they
can provide customers who are considering a switch to greener home heating, as well as additional energy saving tips.
According to research by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) only 52% of consumers are aware of renewable heating systems, so Worcester has identified a need to highlight and educate around low carbon alternatives.
The digital campaign went live on the 5th October and will run through to November, providing over
50 million opportunities for UK adults to see the campaign and drive installer interactions, which means that for registered installers there is also opportunity for new business leads, as well as being able to show existing customers that they are committed to a greener future.
To become a Green Heating Hero, log in or sign-up to the company’s Excelerate scheme or to find out more, visit: https://www.worcesterbosch.co.uk/professional/ green-heating-heroes
Didcot’s newest independent plumbing, heating, and bathroom store opens its doors…
County Plumbing Supplies in Didcot, Oxfordshire opened its doors in late February 2022, with the aim to be a one-stop-shop for local tradespeople, giving them easy access to plumbing, heating, and bathroom supplies
Open to the trade and public, this new store has a strong product offering - stocking the best brands at great prices. What’s more, the team at County Plumbing Supplies has over 115 years of industry expertise between the four of them. Nick, Graham, Richard, and Anthony have all previously worked together and understand what an independent merchant needs to offer.
Nick Wheatley, the owner said: “customers not only want a great price, but they also want good, unbiased advice, and therefore the ability to offer exceptional customer service is key.” He went on to say: “you should always be honest to your customers to ensure their expectations are met.”
The new premises boasts over 8,000 sq. foot of warehouse and storage space and importantly, ample car parking for customers’ vans and cars to park. The shop design has a modern and fresh feel with an element of the ‘wow-factor’.
A large bathroom showroom is being built in phase 2 of the store build.
Having been in the industry since 1985, Nick Wheatley, the owner, worked for several independent merchants before founding his own business ‘UK Plumbing Supplies’ in 2005. He retired in 2018 but was encouraged by previous customers to return. He explained what was key to bringing him back to the industry: “The people – our customers. It’s a privilege and a pleasure to serve the local community. We care about our customers, and we enjoy being able to meet their needs and help them to solve any problems.”
Graham Bustin was Branch Manager at Oxford Plumbing Supplies (part of UK Plumbing Supplies) when he met Nick and has a lot of management experience in the industry. Graham jumped at the opportunity to join Nick as a director and shareholder at County Plumbing Supplies, as
he shares his sentiments when it comes to a customer-first mindset. Graham said: “Every time a business makes a decision, it should think about how such a decision might affect its customers. Putting your customer first is not a one-off action. It’s imperative that your whole team is knowledgeable and has the right information to hand, it’s the whole attitude of a business that fosters a positive customer experience.”
Routes to market have changed over the yearswith the introduction of digital channels, and Nick and his team understand the need to engage with websites and social media, especially amongst their younger customers who prefer to communicate this way.
County Plumbing supplies are a member of The IPG and proudly promotes this fact on their new signage. The IPG is a membership group that commits to providing business and marketing support to local independent plumbing and heating stores and bathroom showrooms. It has the expertise to support Nick’s team with not only their purchasing power, but all digital aspects including a website, social media content, and an in-store digital screen. Glenn Fisher, The IPG’s Managing Director said: “We are committed to encouraging communities to support their local IPG member store, where alongside unrivalled service and unbiased honest advice, a customer is likely to find that their shopping basket is cheaper.”

THE CASE OF THE DISAPPEARING BALUSTERS
Paul Smith, Head of Marketing at long-standing F.H. Brundle, explores the rise of balustrades, and how they’ve changed in the centuries since they were first used.
They might be seen as highly prestigious, even luxurious, today, but balustrades are fundamentally very simple.
There’s a horizontal handrail, and a row of short vertical posts or columns – balusters – holding it up. That’s essentially it.
But over the many centuries they’ve been in use, despite that simplicity, balustrades have still managed to change drastically.
When the vastly rich and influential Medici family of Renaissance Italy set about building a sumptuous palace for themselves, the resulting grand villa had balustrades aplenty.
But even one of the wealthiest families in the world would’ve baulked at the suggestion of making them out of glass – even if it had been technologically possible at the time, it would’ve been far too expensive.
Back then, balustrades were mostly stone, and highly stylised – the balusters were often an elegant bulb shape which resembled pomegranate flowers, called balaustra in Italian, which is
how the product first got its name.
Today, however, glass balustrades are increasingly common, and prized for their ability to solve one of the biggest drawbacks of their stone and metal ancestors –the fact they often blocked out the view.
Technology has advanced to such an extent that it’s now possible to create huge glass sections – with the very best products featuring balusters that are so thin that they’re virtually invisible, and create the effect of an uninterrupted wall of glass.
Stylish, versatile and simple to install
At F.H. Brundle, we pride ourselves on stocking a selection of sleek and stylish balustrade products that can be tailored to all sorts of projects, properties and budgets.
Our installation-friendly preassembled post ranges include Timeless, which features a handrail, and Contemplation, which comes without.
To save time, both products are supplied with base plates and glass clamps already
fitted, and posts for crossbar holders and wire rope are also available.
The range has been specifically designed to cater to a number of different installation scenarios, and so posts come available to bolt down, concrete-in and side fix.
The posts are available in stainless steel grades 304 and 316 satin finish, and a mirror polished finish ideal for coastal locations – 10mm thickness standard glass panels are available from stock, in 100mm increments up to 1100mm width.
In addition, our range of outstanding frameless glass balustrade systems, including Wedge-Loc™, Tilt-Loc™ and Posi-Glaze, provide spectacular results every time.
Quick to install and available as base or side fix options, finishes are satin anodised, PPC black or a mill finish to powder coat to a colour of your choice.
What’s more, there’s a choice of easy-to-fit glass spigots, supplied in aluminium or Duplex 2205 (ultra-marine stainless).
Glass stand-off adaptors are also available – a discreet and
simple way of holding glass panels in place, whilst offering a contemporary touch of elegance to glass balustrades, railings or staircases. These are available in a satin or mirror finish, and now also PPC matt black.

GERFLOR ACOUSTIC VINYL FLOORING SOLUTIONS FOR HOUSING
Unwanted sound can have a detrimental effect on people’s health and well-being especially when living where constant nuisance noise can be acute, says Kenny Miller, National Sales Manager – Housing, Gerflor
Whereas wood and laminate floors generally rely on underlay to provide acoustic insulation, domestic, cushioned vinyl with integrated textile-backing systems and sound-insulating foam backing systems benefit from sound-insulation built into their specification.
And, usually, the thicker and more effective the textile backing system, the more soundabsorbent and thermally-efficient the flooring will be.
In residential environments, nuisance noise is usually more bothersome to occupants of homes where impact sound travels from one dwelling to another, especially from rooms above to spaces below.
This has been exacerbated by the building of more flats and multistorey apartments, the conversion of older, single dwellings into multi-occupancy homes and the trend for extending homes to include three or more floors.
The greater use of hard floorings such as wood, stone and wood laminates over carpets and cushioned floorings in homes has also contributed to higher levels of disturbance caused by impact sound on upper floors to rooms below.
Impact sound transmission is a form of structure-borne sound made by the impact of an object on another, generating sound transmission.
Impact sound can be transmitted through the floor construction to the room below, commonly by footsteps.
Sound insulation levels are measured using a decibel (db)
scale, which involves logarithmic units to measure airborne and impact sound.
Pioneering vinyl flooring manufacturers have therefore responded to the need to control impact sound by introducing residential acoustic vinyls with sound insulation levels as high as 19db.
These floorings are now playing a vital role in minimising impact sound within homes, both in multi-occupancy and single dwellings and in the private and public sector.
As acoustic, residential floorings can mimic wood, wood laminate and stone floorings so successfully and look and perform better than ever before, they provide a quieter and more practical solution where sound-proofing is required, especially in buildings that have been converted into flats and apartments.
The UK’s Building Regulations 2003 Part E: Resistance to the Passage of Sound sets minimum standards for impact sound insulation. Acoustic floorings can help achieve performance requirements.
Textile-backed vinyl floorings can also be loose-laid, thereby speeding up fitting and lowering installation costs.
For housing applications where slip resistance, as well as sound insulation, is essential, some high-performing, acoustic textile-backed and foam-backed residential vinyl floorings are ≥36/ R10 slip-resistant and meet HSE guidelines.
In addition, some of the new wood-effect interlocking click and lock system residential vinyls provide a secure yet floating floor and are a quieter alternative to LVT, wood and wood laminate.
Cushioned, high performing, easymaintenance, acoustic residential vinyl floorings with additional benefits such as waterproofing, slip resistance and cost-effective installation are bringing solutions to housing projects.
While flooring manufacturers continue to invest in innovative new technologies, advanced acoustic, thermal and high performing vinyl floorings will meet the challenges ahead for flooring in housing.

GRAF UK LAUNCHES RAINWATER HARVESTING CPD
It advises on what rainwater can and cannot be used for, Health and Safety considerations for the installation of underground tanks, and how harvesting systems can be combined with storage for SUDS and stormwater management.
A CPD that explains the issues around rainwater harvesting and advises on the options available for specifiers and users has been launched by water management specialists Graf UK.
The 55-minute presentation delivers a range of “Rainwater research” , extending from the fundamentals (what is rainwater harvesting and why is it required) to key regulations and issues, via a user-friendly mix of “live” presentation and videos.
Graf UK’s new CPD shows just how little of the earth’s water is available for use by the global population and forecasts a global rainwater crisis in the next 25 years, with water shortages in the UK by 2040.
The new CPD by Graf UK, a member of the UK Rainwater Management Association, also advises on options for garden, domestic and commercial applications, how an underground tank is typically installed, and how it works (primarily from run-off from roofs).
A guide to sizing rainwater harvesting systems according to BS EN 16941-1:2018 and criteria such as expected yield and ground conditions is also featured in the CPD, along with options for modular add-ons such as covers, filters and technical packages.

RESTORING HISTORY: CORDIA BLACKSWAN COMPLETES HERITAGE REDEVELOPMENT
Occupying a 0.5-acre site at 1-4 Great Hampton Street, The Gothic provides 14 high-quality apartments and duplexes of one, two and three bedrooms.
The scheme is being delivered across three phases totalling 50 apartments, and phase one is now complete. Having obtained an occupancy permit, the first owners at The Gothic are ready to move in, and the show apartment is finished.
Cordia Blackswan is passionate about the Jewellery Quarter and its rich heritage and has experience in working with listed and heritage buildings. The developer is owned by European company Cordia Group, who are well known for their urban regeneration projects across the continent, such as the Corvin Quarter in Budapest.
The developer has retained and enhanced the original Victorian-era features of the building, including traditional cornicing, beams, and windows, finished with contemporary fittings.
Working alongside the Conservation Officer at Birmingham City Council and a specialist joinery company based in the Black Country, Cordia Blackswan has installed like-for-like windows to retain the authentic appearance of The Gothic. The windows have been replaced across the four
buildings that make up phase one, bringing the thermal and acoustic performance of the development up to modern standards.
The original exterior features of the building have also been restored, including the original turret to its Gothic-style glory.
Cordia Blackswan has also worked closely with Edgbastonbased stone masons William Parratt to peel away half a century’s worth of paint and expose the original brickwork hiding underneath.
Over the years, The Gothic has been home to many Jewellery Quarter landmarks, including The Gothic Inn, Gothic Stores and the Gothic Works. For the best part of 50 years, the ground floor facades at The Gothic had been painted many times, in various colours. Some of the building’s features date back as far as 1870.
Marcus Hawley, Managing Director of Cordia Blackswan, said: “It is brilliant to see our long-awaited vision for The Gothic come to life, with works now complete on phase one. The creation of 14 elegant and unique apartments will meet the needs of modern residents who are looking for quirky highquality living space in a prime city location.
“The offering at The Gothic does not stop at residential, we’re pleased to work alongside Griffley Property who are creating commercial spaces to

KELLER LAUNCHES COTTAGE LIFE KITCHEN FOR A NATURAL
AESTHETIC
Natural materials are trending and rapidly growing in popularity, especially in styles that are charming and simplistic without feeling dated or old-fashioned. With this in mind, Keller is thrilled to announce the development of Cottage Life, the premier country style kitchen.
Authenticity and naturalism form the basis of this allnew design. The built-in kitchen cabinets blend seamlessly with the surroundings in a minimalist design that nevertheless employs a substantial amount of storage space, ensuring that modern function and application is maintained. The 708 handles meld perfectly with the rest of the range, lining up perfectly to create an orderly, symmetrical pattern that adds to the range’s tidy appearance. The island grants additional space and utility, particularly in the
form of a hob that fits perfectly into the aesthetic despite the country theme. The deepened sink cabinets provide a comprehensive range of storage room, efficiently maximising use of the available area, and a small shelf on the back wall presents extra space simultaneously with a light, modest design.
Utilising stoic stain dark grey oak and trendy Bronx linen, the colours and materials in this uncomplicated design prioritise clean, pristine living, unblemished by the rigours of modern life. The interior is cloaked in colour ‘mist’,
a series of white, grey, and black shades that create a remarkably striking veneer. The worktop and back wall are comprised of composite materials, giving the appearance of elegant marble and bold stone respectively. Bronx linen is a soft-touch contrast to the surrounding composite shell and solid oak cabinets, further emphasising the natural element.
Keller is committed to attainability and accessibility in their products. For a lower price tag but identical high standard, try a wood look front in melamine instead of solid wood.
Keller is well known for offering the widest range of colours (1950 NCS) and finishes in the kitchen furniture market and is proud to have been a carbon neutral kitchen manufacturer since 2017 and has taken the next step to becoming carbon negative.

“Human-centred design is at the heart of my practice at Studioilse,” said Crawford. “Long-lasting, carefully considered products are more important than ever. CARPET RECYCLING UK REPORTS 50% SUPPORT FROM THE CARPET SECTOR
Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) now has support from around half of the carpet manufacturing and distribution sectors supplying the UK market through its 16 core funder members. This reflects a clear increase in engagement from the sector to act to reduce textile flooring waste and resource usage, according to the not-for-profit association.
“Gaining a detailed understanding of the process means we can provide bespoke advice on how to make improvements and potentially to make savings on cost and resources,” continued Adnan.
“We met several flooring contractors with a monthly spend of £4k to £5k on waste, and we look forward to making a start on helping these companies with next steps and including them in our membership.”
Adnan also highlighted discussions with two flooring fitting training organisations on developing educational programmes regarding the wastes they create and how they can directly influence how the waste is collected, sorted and then processed.
Support from CRUK’s core funders comes from Balsan, Betap, Brintons Carpets, Condor Group, Cormar Carpets, ege Carpets, Furlong Flooring, Gradus, Headlam Group, IVC Commercial, Likewise Floors, Milliken, Modulyss, Rawson Carpet Solutions, Shaw and Tarkett. They are acting voluntarily ahead of any legislation, including Cormar Carpets and Headlam who, with assistance from CRUK, have helped key customers to reduce waste and to create cost savings.
At the 2022 Harrogate Flooring Show, Adnan Zeb-Khan, CRUK Scheme Manager reported interest from raw material suppliers, including fibre and backing manufacturers, seeking advice on how to include more recycled content, and discussing the challenges of separating the component part of carpets.
“We want to have more conversations with raw materials suppliers about the supply of recycled and more sustainable materials as well as, the challenges of decommissioning carpets at the end of life, what is being done and how can we help. We also want to examine more deeply the range and volume of fibres in the UK marketplace. The raw material sector wants to do more to help their manufacturing customers,” he said.
Flooring suppliers of varying sizes showed interest in design for the circular economy and products made with recycled content. Smarter information is often needed to understand their waste streams. CRUK suggests companies do a baseline study with their waste collector to find out what is happening to their textile flooring waste.
“Overall, it was a positive show, and it was great to meet new faces in the sector from raw material suppliers, manufacturers and flooring suppliers. We look forward to following up all of the conversations and assisting companies in revisiting their textile flooring waste streams as well as using resources in a better way through our 119-strong membership and wider network,” he added.

Burglary is common in the UK - a new break-in occurs every 106 seconds – that’s 34 burglaries per hour, 817 per day. There’s a one in 43 chance of your household being burgled.
SECURE IN THE KNOWLEDGE
With the colder, longer, darker nights, we especially start thinking about home security and keeping down our energy bills – a particularly important consideration during the current cost of living/energy crisis.
Crittall Windows, the pioneer of iconic steel frame window manufacture for almost 180 years, says its advanced steel framed window, HomelightPlus ticks all the boxes for making your home more secure and helping keep down costly energy bills.
“The ‘eyes of the home’, windows play their part in home security and potential energy savings,” says Russell Ager, managing director of Crittall Windows. “Factors like security and energy savings are key factors when deciding which windows are best for your home. You can put your mind at rest and significantly save on costly energy bills by choosing high quality, well designed, stylish steel windows.
“Look to the innovation in window frame development. For example, our re-engineered HomelightPlus range of residential windows is the 21st Century enhanced version of the original Standard Metal window first made by our company during the 1920s.
It brings new-look styling and window profiling, plus higher energy-savings, performance, and enhanced security.
“Whatever the type or size of your property, it’s an authentic ‘like for like’ steel window. Peace-of-mind is reassured through an improved, robust, security multi-point locking option tested to the Enhanced Security PAS 24 standard - so the window is especially secure. With higher energysaving accreditations, the window is thermally improved to meet Part L of Building Regulations by achieving either a Window Energy Rating (WER) Band B or a U value as low as 1.0w/m2k.”
For additional energy efficiency, HomelightPlus windows include double weatherstripping, and feature larger, high performance, double glazing units which, coupled with minimal profile sizes, achieve excellent Window Energy Rating standards.
These features provide yearround comfort ensuring this bespoke modern steel window retains heat during cold winters, and controls heat in the summer, whilst also generally reducing noise levels.
Easy to replace, HomelightPlus windows replicate the original Homelight Standard Metal
window with modular, multi-light construction and comes with fixed, top or side hung including projecting options.
While its even slimmer ‘timeless’ frame profiles and sight-lines, present a light delicate feel inside and out, creating a welcome sense of airiness and space. To maximise daylight, the window’s design incorporates larger areas of glass than any other window of a similar size.
Quality-made, galvanised steel windows like this will last over 60 years.
They are competitively priced, economical to maintain longterm. While being Polyester powder coated ensures a consistent, even, coating, not requiring redecoration for 2530 years.
The window is available through the nationwide network of Crittall Specialist Partners in a choice of styles (including true divided glazing bar options) and as part of the Crittall Contemporary Colour Collection in 46 colours, plus different colours can be specified for internal and external surfaces. The steel window frames can match – or contrast with - your interior décor.
Do it in style
Mr Ager adds: “When choosing window frames for your home, carefully consider the style and material. They have a dramatic impact on the look – personality - of your home. Even affecting its value.
It’s important that the windows chosen match its style,
contemporary or traditional. Installed appropriately, quality steel windows can enhance a property.
“It’s not worth spoiling the look of a property for the sake of a cheap installation. Ensure you install the window brand it says it is - only the original, genuine, make. As a top brand in the marketplace and as the original steel window company, our steel windows, doors and screens are often imitated but never matched.”

Responding to market demand for greater transparency, Schüco has built on its second-to-none engineering to develop the ultimate bi-fold door.
Seamlessly connecting the outside with the inside in the most stylish and functional way, the new bi-fold door is available with very large pane sizes of up to 3.5m high x 1.5m wide. This means doors can be taller with fewer separate panes per opening, which combined with sightlines of only 90mm offers greater views with minimal obstruction.
Increased airtightness enables the AS FD 75/90.HI to achieve U-values as low as 1.0, which is the lowest in the company’s bi-fold door range. This could mean the crucial difference when working towards a warm, energy-efficient building that also allows the luxury of ample glass.
INTRODUCING THE NEW LARGER, SLIMMER BI-FOLD DOOR FROM SCHÜCO
From September 2022, Schüco rolled out the new bi-fold doors in in more opening configurations with additional flush, barrier free threshold options, providing even greater design flexibility.
Meanwhile, no compromises have been made in terms of security either, ensuring the utmost security while enabling an overall more streamlined look with fewer hinges and the option of a new 3-point handle operated lock.
The new bi-fold door is tested to burglar resistance PAS24/RC2 and is also covered by Secured by Design, the official police security initiative of which Schüco UK is a member.
Experience the ultimate design freedom to create maximum light with minimum frames with this pioneering new glazing solution. Find out more by visiting: www.schueco.uk/unfold.
Schüco’s new AS FD bi-fold door delivers its slimmest frames yet, larger pane sizes and improved performance over its predecessor, the ASS 70 FD.
Clean and contemporary looks with slimmer sight lines – unlike traditional PVC-U windows.
Advanced engineering technology – achieves the new A++ Window Energy Rating and a 0.7 U-value.
Sustainability as standard – manufactured using 50% recycled material.
Saves money – costs up to 50% less than equivalents.
IMPROVED SMOKE PROTECTION
The single ‘door sized’ S61 compliments the company’s established, successful UKCA certified and CE marked Series 60 (S60) smoke evacuation damper.
The new S61 has been designed, tested and certified to EN1366-2, EN1366-10 and EN12101-8 in both open-to-closed and closed-to-open (with its associated grille attachment). It has attained ES classification for integrity and smoke in air leakage tests, exceeding current legislative requirements and guidance. As its counterpart Series 60, S61 is manufactured from galvanised steel and will provide up to 120 minutes’ smoke and fire integrity.
Providing up to 1m 2 geometric free area within a 800mm x 1920mm opening list size, S61 delivers a unit specifically to suit mechanically ventilated smoke shafts, with its enhanced air leakage reduction. Front access actuators and grille alignment brackets further simplify installation, operation and maintenance.
Says Ian Rogers, Gilberts’ Sales Director: “Series 60 goes from strength to strength: we believed it was the best of its kind when launched, and that has been reinforced with its attainment of certification for maintenance of opening confirmation. It remains the ‘go to’ option. Series 61 is engineered to offer specifiers an alternative with improved area and smoke leakage when exceptional capability is demanded, with an increase in size to suit mechanically ventilated shafts and enhanced leakage reduction.”
The development of S61 builds on Gilberts’ 60+ years’ heritage of bringing to market advanced technology that enhances the design, installation, energy efficiency and occupier comfort of non- domestic buildings.
All Gilberts’ products- standard lines and bespoke solutions- are designed, developed, manufactured and tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001:2015 quality standard in the company’s state of the art 95,000 ft2 facility in Blackpool.
Series 61 (S61) is the latest smoke control damper to come to market from Gilberts, Britain’s leading independent air movement specialist.
