Let's get straight into the point of this book, as we do not want to waste your time. You want to go to more blocked drains or send your team to more blocked sewer and stormwater drains. This is because they are the lifeblood of a maintenance plumbing business. Let's face the facts - you are not going to be successful or create a profitable plumbing business constantly going to leaking taps and toilets. It just doesn't work that way. So why don’t you get 30 blocked drain calls a week? Do you think there are 30 out there to get in your area of service? I'll let you in on a little secret.... THERE ARE! So the question is, why dont you get that many calls or go to that many? Chances are, you’re doing a fair few things wrong and you are not giving yourself the best chance for blocked drain customers to call you! Let’s jump straight into the 5 immediate surefire ways you can increase your blocked drain calls TODAY! P.S. These tips are so easy a first year apprentice could apply them!
1
You Need To Be On Page 1 Of Google
Before you can go to tons of blocked drains, your customers need to be able to find you. You can have the latest and greatest technology, the best plumbers and an amazing website but if you are on page 2, your chances of getting blocked drain calls are extremely low. A lot of marketing companies will get you to page 1, but they will get you there for ridiculous keywords that do not get anywhere near the traffic that the big keywords get. Anyone can get to page 1 of a Google search targeting the keyword "blocked drain plumber that wears a red hat on a Tuesday". Ok, that’s a bit far fetched, but you get my jist. If you are not on page 1 of "plumber suburb" you are losing jobs to your competition who is on page 1.
2
Sell The Value Of Fixing Their Blocked Drain
Want to stop getting customers haggling and asking questions about the price? Stop giving them reasons to! Firstly, why do so many plumbing websites advertise "Blocked Drains from $xx"? IT'S BULLSHIT!
You know you cannot send a high pressure jetting machine down the drain, clear a blockage and then send a CCTV camera down the drain all for whatever extremely low figure you have advertised on your website. So why are you you treating customers like idiots? Instead, do not give any price indication on the website and sell the value of the job you are doing! Too many plumbers are just racing to the bottom. Instead, how about someone say "you know what, I'm actually going to get what I'm worth and explain why this service costs what it costs". Remember, you are literally playing in people's shit! Some people wouldn't do that for $10,000!
3
Provide A Same-Day Service
You answer the question for yourself. If you had raw sewerage overflowing at your house, would you wait for a plumber to come that may take a easy or two? Of course not!
You need to remember that this has probably never happened for your customers and they are in a panic! Their number one investment which is their house is currently flooding with sewerage. They want it fixed NOW!
If you do not offer a same-day service for blocked drains you may as well sell your jetting machine, because this is urgency! People need this sort of problem fixed and it is unacceptable to wait even 1 day.
4
You Must Give Your Customer An Upfront Idea Of Pricing
We have a saying that goes: 2 out of 10 people will want the lowest possible price and it is nearly impossible to please them. 2 out of 10 do not even care about price and will do the job no matter what the price is and a 5 year old could win their job BUT the 6 in the middle, are the ones where you really need to tighten the shoe laces and win because they could go either way. These 6 people in the middle are the ones that will be making a few calls and reaching out to a few plumbers. This is where you need to use Step 2 (selling the value) in conjunction with giving them an upfront price. These people will not use you if they do not trust you. And let me tell you, withholding prices is not something a trustworthy company does. What we also advise and is met with heavy resistance is not charging hourly or half hourly rates. Why you ask? You don't know how long you are going to be there? Once again, a "service professional that doesnt know how long the job will take" sounds like a service un-professional! You need to let them know a time limit and how long this job should take and then what needs to occur if the drain still isn't cleared at that point. Give your customer a reason to believe you have done this before and know what you are doing. Plus it comes across a lot more trustworthy.
5
Target Areas With Old Pipes And Lots Of Trees
You tell me if this one makes sense? Your marketing team should know what suburbs have the most searches for blocked drains. Combine this with what suburbs you know are old and have plenty of trees and you are now fishing in the right pond, with the right bait! It's just simple common knowledge that there are more popular suburbs than others for certain jobs...... surely you know this!
BONUS BONUS TIP! If you or one of your plumbers is on a job at a house servicing a set of taps or repairing a leaking toilet and that customer does not get blown away with top quality service, what happens if they have a blocked drain in 2 weeks time? Will they remember you? Will they call you? Fact is that they should be absolutely raving about you and singing your praises online and from the rooftops by the time you leave their property. Do you think if this was the case they would call you whenever their drain blocked? OF COURSE THEY WOULD! So make yourself and your business UNFORGETTABLE! You need to stand out somehow. This way you will get online reviews, repeat business and therefore more blocked drains.
