elcome to our 50th Issue of Jetset Magazine. Over the years, we’ve been immensely proud to present the most engaging, relevant narratives and interviews, illuminating seismic shifts in the economy, technology and lifestyle. Our editorial team leverages exclusive access to international events, premieres and insider experiences, allowing us to deliver an impressive scope of feature stories. With every edition, we explore salient issues from global citizenship to rising investment trends to what matters most to the ultra-high net worth individual today. Speaking of celebrating the big 50, we tip our hat to the Trefethen Family in Swirl & Sniff: Trefethen Family Vineyards. This formidable clan has enjoyed a distinguished position in the wine industry for decades, celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2018. Their innovation and responsible stewardship of the land contributed to Napa Valley gaining momentum globally. While this achievement has led to business prosperity, the third generation of the family is poised to lead the winery to stellar new heights. When it comes to dizzying heights, the meteoric rise and rise of Chris Pratt has resulted in pure box office gold. Veteran film festival insider Si Si Penaloza unravels the hype in her exclusive profile of Hollywood’s latest leading man. We’re also thrilled to present Dr. John Demartini on Rewarding Relationships, an uncompromising exploration of how to cultivate a sense of solidarity with colleagues and peers. Only Demartini can break his robust approach down to a core ethos, easily adopted into your everyday professional interactions. In Matching Patterns in Business, Author Barry LaBov believes it’s time to recognize that the more skilled we are at recognizing patterns, the better decisions we make as business leaders. Many of us in nominally disparate industries—intuitive technology, mass communication, narrowcasting, artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency—are working on the same advancements from a dynamic range of angles. You’ll be amazed at where synergies lie in this new century. While we thrive on publishing with distinct house style and syntax, our enduring goal is the creation, design, and care of content that serves our affluent audience in meaningful ways. To this end, we are thrilled to commission works by celebrated thought leaders such as Robert Kiyosaki. His contribution to this esteemed anniversary issue, For Things to Change… First I Must Change, should be required reading on the executive syllabus. Trend junkies will get a kick out of What’s New: A Guide to Everything That Should Be On Your Radar Right Now, while long time Jetset fans will be tickled at our crowning of Miss Jetset 2018 Lara Sebastian. One might argue this was meant to be; not only is Lara worldly and strikingly beautiful, she’s has logged more miles on private jets than a lot of seasoned pilots. Wishing you all prosperity second to none. Here’s to the next 50 issues! Sincerely,
Darrin Austin

Trefethen Family Vineyards By tami austin

ver 400 wineries are nestled in Napa Valley. For many of us, discovering what sets them apart is the journey every wine aficionado can appreciate. With some wineries less sophisticated than others, those that get it right understand that the quality of grapes produced in the vineyards requires the utmost attention to detail, thus creating a style and taste that can’t be duplicated. It’s the passion behind the winery that brings winemaking to the next level. Which takes us to the world-renowned Trefethen Family Vineyards, celebrating its 50th anniversary as one of the few remaining family-owned wine estates committed to the craft of 100 percent estate-grown wines in the Oak Knoll District. And just like the preservation of fine wine, preserving the history behind the winery and vineyards, as well as aiding in the foundation of what Napa Valley is today, was and is most certainly part of the business plan for the Trefethen family legacy. Dating back over 130 years ago, during Napa’s first era of viticulture and winemaking, the Goodman brothers established Eshcol Ranch and constructed a three-story wooden gravity-flow winery designed by architect Hamden McIntyre. (It’s known today as the McIntyre building). The winemaking success of the Goodman brothers helped the boom in Napa and ended after the phylloxera parasite epidemic and Prohibition. The McIntyre building and several adjoining farms were purchased by Eugene and Catherine Trefethen in 1968 with the idea of selling

grapes, not to start a winery. However, their son John and daughter-inlaw Janet wanted to make wine. With much thought and consideration, the building was restored twice, initially after the purchase in 1968 and then following the 2014 earthquake. The recent renovation was completed in 2017 and the doors opened to yet another remarkable new beginning. The McIntyre building remains as the heart of the winery. The first floor is still used to age wine while the second floor houses a tasting area with mesmerizing views of the vineyards. When visiting Trefethen Vineyards, guests have a variety of ways to sample wine. Distinct flights are available daily along with the option to enjoy a two-hour Historic Winery Tour. For those who prefer a reserve tasting experience, with advance reservations, guests will be escorted to the former family home to experience a flight of Trefethen’s most highly-allocated estate-grown wines. So here’s a toast to the Trefethen Family -- to continued success as you begin to pass the torch to the next generation, your children, Hailey and Lorenzo Trefethen, as one of the most respected Napa Valley estates producing world-class wines. How Henrik Fisker is Electrifying The Industry by David Haraldsen Photography by Fisker
I 32
n an industry built on innovation, Danish-born Henrik Fisker has played a lead role in the conceptualization and development of some of today’s most prominent luxury vehicles. Jetset sat down with Fisker to discuss his latest masterpiece (affectionately named the “EMotion”) and the past, present, and future of the electrified automotive industry. Fisker parlayed a lifelong fascination with automobiles into a college degree in transportation design, followed by an impressive career with BMW. His initial entry in the automotive world came in 1989 with BMW’s first attempt at an electric vehicle. “It was a little strange because they weren’t really cool at the time,” he observed. “It was a little tiny city car with lead acid batteries [and] probably like a 40-mile range.” Fisker later developed the infamous BMW JETSETMAG.COM
Z8, a model which helped reinvigorate the brand’s reputation and consumer profile. His next career move took this creative genius to British manufacturer Aston Martin, owned at that time by Ford Motor Co. He held positions at both companies concurrently, working as the head of global advanced design for Ford and the Design Director and a board member at Aston Martin. During his tenure, Fisker’s magnum opus was undoubtedly his work as head designer for both the bestselling V8 Vantage model and the popular Aston Martin DB9. He left Ford/Aston Martin in 2005 and has been designing under his own brand name ever since. The Fisker Karma, the world’s first plug-in hybrid-powered vehicle, is probably its namesake’s best known design, establishing
Fisker as one of today’s most innovative automotive designers. His next breakthrough is nearing fruition in the form of the EMotion, with solid state battery technology that Fisker believes will bring electric mobility to the masses. “We need to get to the next level in electrification where we truly can provide a better experience in every single area than a gasoline car. And that’s what the solid state battery can do,” he commented. Fisker’s talented team has spent the last couple of years focused on bringing solid state technology to market. While it’s still too early for any final numbers, Fisker believes the EMotion’s solid state, allelectric performance could theoretically feature a battery range of 700 miles, with a 400-mile range option also potentially available. A target 0-60 time of <3.0 seconds, top speeds just north of 160MPH,
and charging in under five minutes are also on the radar. “People are starting to get the feeling that electric cars can be exciting, and once we get the really long range, like the 700 mile range, people can start traveling with their electric car because that’s probably one of the weakest points [with EVs] right now,” he commented. “And we also need to be able to get really ultra fast charging so that people feel comfortable that if they go somewhere they can also charge quickly.” From his perspective as a pioneer in the EV market, Fisker believes we’re currently in the middle of the biggest change the automotive industry has seen since the invention of the gasoline engine. Says Fisker, “It’s not just about electric vehicles. It’s about autonomous vehicles, it’s about fully connected vehicles, and it’s about a radical change in the perception of the automotive industry.” ISSUE 32 . 2018 2017

ULYSSE NARDIN: Freak Out Fasten your seatbelt. Ulysse Nardin has expanded its Freak Out universe from one timepiece to four. This game-changing line, the most maverick collection in Haute Horlogerie, breaks traditional rules. Freak timepieces have no crowns, dials or hands. Each wheel has 18 teeth and activates an alternator that transmits energy to the balance staff – first in one direction, then the other. With four models forged from titanium to choose from, it’s time to get your Freak on!

CHANEL: Code Coco The latest timepiece by Chanel exudes the company’s signature style. Available in steel or steel and ceramic, this elegant timepiece features a clasp named Mademoiselle which is inspired by the 2.55 handbag designed by Coco herself in 1955. The design of the timepiece also features Chanel’s iconic quilted motif. Each Code Coco watch model is available with or without diamonds. These sparkling gemstones were Coco’s favorite because she felt they offer the greatest value in the smallest volume.
CHOPARD: L.U.C 150 All-in-One An important occasion like the celebration of a company’s 150th anniversary merits the creation of an exceptional timepiece, and Chopard has delivered on that promise. The L.U.C 150 All-in-One is the most complex model ever created by Chopard Manufacture. In fact, five patents have been registered for this model with fourteen complications. Available in platinum with a blue-grey dial or rose gold with a verdigriscolored dial, the L.U.C 150 All-in-One is chronometer-certified and bears the prestigious Poinçon de Genève.

ROLEX: Oyster Perpetual Daytona
HARRY WINSTON: Project Z12
Timeless. Surprising. Free-spirited. These are just a few of the words that could be used to describe this exquisitely feminine timepiece fashioned in glimmering pink gold. Its innovative design features 29 polished or diamond-set rings entwined around the watch’s mother-of-pearl or diamond-pavé dial and is highlighted by 4.80 carats of alternately snow-set and bezelset gems. A white galuchat leather strap, provides the finishing touch.
Rolex began creating the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 1963, but never before has it produced one like this. Fashioned of 18 karat Everose gold, this timepiece replaces the traditional tachymetric scale on the bezel with a dazzling gradation of sapphires in rainbow hues. The case is further adorned with 56 brilliant-cut diamonds and the dial features 11 baguette-cut sapphire hour markers, each one brilliantly matching the color of the corresponding point on the bezel.
Harry Winston launched its iconic Project Z timepiece line in 2004 to redefine the genre of luxury sports watches through masterful technical achievement and nextgeneration materials and design. The latest model, the Project Z12, continues that longstanding tradition. Its concentric design is highlighted by a large, arched bridge made of the company’s exclusive alloy, Zalium™. The new HW3306 auto-winding caliber delivers an impressive 68 hour power reserve.

Manchette is the French word for cuff, and Piaget has been adorning its clientele’s wrists with its unique designs of cuff bracelets since the 60s. Now, the house of Piaget has reinvented this collection with stunning pieces studded with diamonds and exotic gemstones like Ceylon blue sapphires and Tanzanian red spinels. The piece shown above, the Extremely Piaget cuff, is fashioned in 18 karat white gold and set with a hand-engraved amethyst and 601 brilliant-cut diamonds.

VICEROY LOS CABOS
SAN JOSÉ DEL CABO . BCS, MEXICO
42
Bringing modernity and sophistication to Los Cabos, the newlyopened Viceroy Los Cabos escapes the ordinary with a design and experience unlike any other. The property’s dreamscape design, originally concepted by Mexican architect Miguel Angel Aragonés, embraces the allure and fluidity of water beside its minimalistic and pure white infrastructure. With elevated walkways surrounded by water connecting the resort’s buildings and unobstructed views of the Sea of Cortez, the water element appears to exist organically throughout the resort’s dreamscape design. Formerly known as Mar Adentro, the latest property from Viceroy Hotel Group has been reconceptualized after undergoing renovations and luxurious enhancements, including a brand new beachfront pool and bar, a refreshed and vibrant lobby and arrival experience, cinema room, new dining venues, meeting rooms and a state-of-the-art fitness center curated by Los Angeles-based celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak. The property offers five distinct and modern dining outlets, each providing a fresh and local experience reflective of Baja’s history and culture. Nido Restaurant, meaning “nest” in Spanish, draws in guests’ eyes with a latticed, nest-like structure that appears to be floating on water in the center of the resort. With an international ceviche menu and innovative handcrafted cocktails, Nido is both a visual centerpiece and social epicenter for guests and locals. Likewise, JETSETMAG.COM
Viceroy Los Cabos’ beachside eatery Nidito, meaning “little nest,” overlooks the picturesque infinity beach pool and ocean. Located in the main building of the resort, Casera Restaurant and Otro Bar feature elevated home-style Mexican cuisine and a Tequila Library, along with a vibrant rooftop bar with scenic ocean views that is set to open later this year. Further highlighting its connection and commitment to the arts, Viceroy Los Cabos has debuted “A Canvas for Discovery” artist-inresidency series, in which the property will display specially-curated works by rotating artists of various art mediums. Los Angeles-based contemporary artist Spencer Mar Guilburt is the first to showcase his vision and talents. After completing a dedicated, 70-feet-tall mural on the exterior of Viceroy Santa Monica in Los Angeles, Guilburt recently completed a corresponding piece at the Los Cabos property. Through this exploration of art and innovation, Viceroy Los Cabos aims to inspire visitors to engage in thought and conversation. Viceroy Los Cabos’ dedicated “Head of Vibe” has curated fresh and one-of-kind programming for guests — on and off property — including learning to surf with a local pro, an exclusive “fishing with the chef” experience, scuba diving with underwater photography, fluorescent night dives and custom tequila-making classes. Minutes away from downtown San José del Cabo, guests can immerse themselves in the local culture by exploring the city’s weekly art walk, Colonial architecture and colorful sights. VILLA DEL PALMAR BEACH RESORT & SPA AT THE ISLANDS OF LORETO . BCS, MEXICO
Villa Del Palmer Beach Resort & Spa
Just beyond the village of Loreto, Mexico, a mere ninety-minute flight from Los Angeles, on the southern end of the Baja peninsula, lies Danzante Bay and The Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa. This 4,500-acre master-planned community is the brain child of renowned Mexico developer Owen Perry. From the resort’s exquisite shoreline beaches, visitors can enjoy crystal blue-green warm waters through a bevy of activities including fishing, whale-dolphin watching, kayaking or simply taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of what Jacques Cousteau once called “The Aquarium of the World.” The resort boasts 188 beautifully-appointed luxury suites with large terraces, all providing stunning ocean and mountain views. Directly adjacent to the hotel is the 39,000-square-foot Sábila Spa and Wellness Center where you can indulge and relax from a day at the beach or golf course. Three great restaurants onsite offer anything from casual dining to a full gourmet experience. The signature Danzante restaurant and bar offers a unique combination of Mexican fusion cuisine integrating fresh fish, seafood and steaks into tantalizing dishes, making this culinary experience a must. out to 7,237 feet, this magnificent golf course offers players a fair or challenging test, depending on how much they want to take on. Each hole at TPC Danzante Bay is part of a visually awe-inspiring journey, meandering through canyons and mountain terrain all the way up from the dunes of the beach to the famous cliffside peninsula and home to the par 3, 17th hole. Perched hundreds of feet over the Sea of Cortez, the setting here is indescribable and worthy of several selfies and golf swing videos. This signature hole will surely become a must play for any Jetset golfer visiting Mexico. If, like me, you fall in love with Danzante Bay (and what’s not to love?), you may want to check out some of the newly-released home ownership opportunities. The El Cardon home sites, set in a 734-acre master planned development, feature approximately one-half acre lots with outstanding golf course, mountain and ocean views starting at $285,000 US. Want a little more? Check out the limited collection of Baja contemporary two-to-five bedroom single family estates starting from $1.7 million. Having toured a recently completed home, I was awed by the finishes and designs and the integration into the surrounding terrain. Danzante Bay, with its beautiful water and beaches, incredible golf and dining, is truly a Mexican paradise.

MAHEKAL BEACH RESORT PLAYA DEL CARMEN, MEXICO
One of Mexico’s finest tropical escapes awaits at Mahekal Beach Resort, perfectly positioned along the sunny Playa Del Carmen coast. Renowned for its rich history, friendly staff, and “magical” allure, Mahekal is the perfect solution for affluent travelers who want more from their time south of the border than one might find at the typical “all inclusive” resort. The lush landscape, white sandy beaches, and views of the neighboring island of Cozumel provide the perfect backdrop for this stunning oceanside retreat. Located just steps from Playa’s popular Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue), Mahekal’s pristine resort property includes an array of luxury amenities and services that guarantee memories to last a lifetime. Upon arrival at Cancún International Airport, guests are greeted with a warm smile and a refreshingly cold margarita (an amenity you will almost certainly appreciate, given the warm air and humidity). The greeting is led by the property’s resort concierge, Boli, and a genuinely friendly staff that seem fully committed to ensuring your experience is never to be forgotten. A short ride through Quintana Roo brings you to Playa del Carmen and this remarkable one-of-a-kind resort. With its deep roots in local culture and tradition, Mahekal’s history dates back over 50 years when a local family decided to build six thatched-roof palapas (huts) on the beach for travelers to rent. Every peso of profit was reinvested in new bungalows, and today the resort features more than 100 individual palapas and includes recent enhancements completed via a three-year, $16 million reimagining.

Two-bedroom suites, luxury penthouse units, and longer term stays via La Residencia make Mahekal Beach Resort the perfect choice during your visit to Playa del Carmen. Light fare and gourmet cuisine are available at on-site restaurants Cocina, Fuego Restaurante y Cantina, Itzi (named after a Mayan princess), Boli’s Bar, and the property’s flagship Las Olas Restaurant and Bar. basketball courts, fitness centers, mini-golf, an arcade, a bowling bar, a variety of non-motorized water sports, and a network of enormous swimming pools. Dining options are plentiful at The Grand, with more than a dozen bar and restaurant choices. Whether you’re craving local Mexican cuisine or looking for flavors of a different variety, the property’s ample menus feature culinary inspirations from around the globe. You’ll find everything from USDA choice meats and fresh seafoods, to the finest Asian, French, Italian, and Lebanese cuisine. Several bars are also located throughout the massive Moon Palace property, while Unique, The Grand’s own nightclub, offers an upscale after-hours experience. The Grand at Moon Palace Cancun is home to Awe Spa, offering adult guests a menu of services not typically available in a resort setting. The enchanting spa facilities feature a full-service beauty salon, invigorating massage and hydrotherapy treatments, and the trendy Fish Spa Experience where the Awe Spa has pioneered new therapeutic treatments using authentic Garra Rufa Fish.
The property’s clever and challenging 27-hole golf course is the brainchild of legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus and includes three intelligently integrated nines, all of which have been named after the region’s pristine Caribbean landscape. Known as Jungle, Lakes, and Dunes, each 9-hole course offers a unique set of challenges for players of all skill levels. The Jungle nine requires daring golfers to traverse the flora and fauna of the surrounding jungle’s dense forest as they navigate the course. Making even the slightest of errors on a tee shot here leaves players digging out of rugged shrubbery. The Lakes also delivers a formidable challenge to both novice and expert golfers. Its precarious wetlands network puts every shot at risk of ending up in a water hazard or bunker. The Dunes is certainly the most demanding nine and sits firmly atop the list of crowd favorites at this rather unusual 27-hole golfer’s paradise. And for those looking to improve their game, the Moon Palace Golf Academy provides a chance to learn from the pros. All-inclusive golf packages are always available and each stay includes resort credits that can be used for a variety of activities and services. MoonPalaceCancun.com

Journey Aviation’s charismatic, high-energy CEO Fabian Bello by tom zenner Photography by Journey Aviation
F
abian Bello, CEO of the South Florida-based private business charter company Journey Aviation, is a charismatic, high-energy leader with the kind of global vision and business sensibilities it takes to send a company soaring to a higher altitude of performance. It was his strong combination of people skills and business acumen that enabled him to make a seamless transition from serving in an executive role in the logistics industry to the competitive, high-stress environment of private business jet aviation.
58
Journey Aviation’s Fabian Bello possesses many characteristics that set him apart as a leader in business aviation, but one of them is somewhat surprising. His experience with private planes before starting at Journey Aviation wasn’t just limited, it was non-existent. He didn’t fly on them, and he certainly wasn’t making strategic decisions and leading a dedicated team of over a hundred employees in the aviation field. But he’s found his new role fascinating and exciting, and his success is grounded in core business principles. “It boils down to authenticity,” he says. “We must be genuine and trustworthy to really stand out in this industry. I have developed incredible friendships throughout the world before a single stitch of business came into play. I am honored and very proud of this as I believe it is the single most contributing factor to my personal and the company’s success.” JETSETMAG.COM
For the Cuban born Bello, it’s all about relationships, and he’s continually developing and leveraging them to make Journey Aviation a true global player. Even though he came from a different business background, he brought with him the ability to be a “challenge solver.” “The management skills were most certainly useful,” he tells Jetset. “And working for a European company while making changes throughout South America and on a Global Business Process Board allowed me to have an innate understanding of how to get multiple cultures to work together. In business aviation, whereby we operate heavy worldwide jets, it is imperative to have the ability to connect with the world. I don’t see my business as regional. It is more of a oneworld scenario for me. Same sky, same airplanes, same demands.” Journey Aviation provides exclusive private jet services to Fortune 500 companies, high net worth individuals, politicians
and celebrities. The company works with customers and clients who demand the highest standards of privacy, discretion and professionalism. And, of course, safety is of the upmost importance. The aircraft charter game is played in a high stress environment. Some leaders, like Bello, find ways to channel these inherent stresses into fuel and energy to create a work environment team members can thrive in. “We go out of our way to make it fun. It is a very high stress environment and I make it a point to crack jokes, both with my team and clients, to keep the good spirits going.” A vibrant, positive corporate culture is vital to the strength of a company, and Bello has forged that, along with an insistence that company growth comes from building one relationship at a time. Bello’s decision to make this career leap was like most professional decisions he’s made— strategic and timely. The strong
economy is great for the industry and his company. He has some sound advice for fellow Jetset readers looking to increase their private air travel with Journey Aviation or another company. “Find someone you can trust that will always look out for you. They need to value the relationship as a whole, rather than someone who wants the ‘one trip.’ And once you find that person, don’t beat them up solely on price every time. It takes a lot to pull off a successfully pleasant trip, and when they are quoted and put together solely on price, you usually wind up getting exactly what you paid for.” It comes down to a simple phrase. “Elevate Your Expectations.” It’s a mantra for Journey Aviation and a deft explanation of the way its new leader is successfully guiding his company. ave you ever lost your car keys and tried to find them by mentally walking through where you’d been since you last had them? It’s actually an effective method of finding something you’ve lost. Why? A lot of it has to do with how the brain stores and recalls information contextually, or based on the setting and circumstances surrounding an event. This way of storing information is what helps us identify patterns quickly, which is important in decision making. The more skilled we are at recognizing patterns, the better decisions we can make.

Pattern matching is the brain’s natural tendency to see patterns in what we perceive, then to make connections with the patterns we already have stored in our memory to develop new patterns. We try to understand what happens in life by matching it to something similar that’s happened to us in the past. This pattern match then informs our responses. It’s not something we have to consciously think about; rather it’s simply the way our minds work. For example, you walk into a restaurant and are shown to a table. You see a chair at the table and sit down. How do you know it’s a chair? Your brain recognizes the pattern of what a chair looks like, whether it’s blue with four legs or grey with a pedestal. Another example is learning to read. The brain identifies patterns in the letters and how they’re arranged to form words. Then it recognizes patterns in the way the words are ordered to form sentences.
it and identifying the patterns. For example, if a company wanted to improve the customer experience, they could look for the patterns in customer behavior. How often do they complain? What are they complaining about? Why did they purchase in the first place? What drives their decision to repurchase? The data collected can help identify patterns. Looking at these patterns can then inform future decisions on how to improve the customer experience, which in turn feeds new patterns. Pattern recognition explains why experienced people are better at making decisions than inexperienced people. It’s not just a matter of education and natural talent. A person experienced in a certain area has created more patterns as they’ve made decisions and assessed the results. That’s why a more experienced person has a greater likelihood of making the right decision.
While pattern matching is innate to individuals, in business it requires a more deliberate effort. It’s not something that most companies do naturally. Business patterns must be discovered. Those that proactively seek out data to help them identify patterns have realized great success in developing products, brands, technologies, services and much more. Companies who come up with the “next big thing” are masters at pattern recognition. They look at existing patterns and develop new patterns in response to them. Take Uber for example. They identified a pattern of negative experiences in the taxi industry — difficulty hailing a cab, inconsistent experiences, dirty cars, unfriendly drivers. Uber took that data and disrupted the industry by creating a new pattern that flipped every negative in the taxi industry. They united the convenience of technology with transportation. Today, Uber is in 632 cities around the world. Pattern matching can also be used to solve a business challenge. It involves breaking a challenge down by analyzing the data behind
Creativity is also a result of pattern recognition. Steve Jobs once said, “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.” He viewed creativity as a person’s ability to connect experiences they’ve had or observed, and synthesize new patterns. It’s about identifying patterns that are often quite different and combining them to create a new pattern. Mark Twain supported Jobs’ concept of creativity when he said, “all ideas are second-hand.” Innovation often comes from using existing ideas, combining them in different ways or modifying them to make new ones. As intuitive as technology is today, no machine has yet to compete with the human brain’s ability to match patterns. Like any muscle that grows stronger with use, the more businesses use pattern matching, the easier it is to detect new patterns that can inform ideas and decisions. Patterns are out there waiting to be discovered. What will they tell your business?

HOW RELATIONSHIPS AND ATTITUDE IMPACT SUCCESS BY KEN MCELROY

very year in December we gather about 150 of our employees and do a two-day book study. The idea is to not talk business, but rather to focus on something that we can all benefit from: personal development. Personal development begins with selfawareness. It’s been my experience that income rarely exceeds personal development. Sometimes income takes a lucky jump, but unless you learn to handle the responsibilities that come with it, it will usually shrink back to the amount you can handle

ach and every year I watch grown men and women break down in tears publicly at this annual company event and then I watch them take big bold steps to improve their relationships with their families, friends and co-workers. This annual book study has done three primary things for my company. It has lowered employee turnover significantly, we have increased interest to work for us, and we have a very strong company culture. A strong culture is about strong relationships. These relationships are the glue that keep our company together. It’s the reason we continue to be one of the top employers in Arizona and in the nation based on various employee polls. When I graduated from school, I honestly believed I was ready for the world. Boy, was I wrong. I was so tired of text books and sitting in classrooms that I didn’t study much for about 10 years after college. What I soon realized is that things were moving fast and I wasn’t. This was mostly because I stopped learning and pushing myself, so in the last 20 years I jumped back into personal development and started with reading books. I never stopped. I am grateful to be able to share some of these books and teachings with my own employees each and every year like the book I recently finished, Big Potential, by Shawn Achor. My company studied his last book, The Happiness Advantage, a few years back so I was familiar with the author and his story. In Big Potential, he says, “In a world that thrives on competition and individual achievement, we are measuring and pursuing potential all wrong. By pursuing success in isolation — pushing others away as we push ourselves too hard — we are not just limiting our potential, we are becoming more stressed and disconnected than ever.” This statement defines relationships at their core. What you want is to become a magnet, pulling people toward you and helping them channel their energy toward their big potential. That collective energy will simultaneously provide you with momentum and assistance to reach your goals.
We all know that success doesn’t exist in a vacuum. We spend the first 22 years of our lives being judged and praised for our individual attributes and what we can achieve alone, when for the rest of our lives, our success is almost entirely interconnected with that of others. Our relationships matter. If you know anything about Ray Dalio, you know he is one of the wealthiest men in the world and author of Principles. He says, “While making money is good, having meaningful work and meaningful relationships is far better.” He goes on to say, “There is no amount of money I would take in exchange for a meaningful relationship, because there is nothing I could buy with that money that would be more valuable.” I’ve had the pleasure of hiring hundreds of people over the last 20 years. Like anything that you do repetitively, you gain experience and wisdom with each interview, and over that time I have had some incredible people work for me. I always look at everyone with a great deal of wonder as they share with me their own personal journeys. ISSUE 3 . 2018

“I started hiring people primarily for their positive attitudes as opposed to just their experience. It has proven to be a formula for success.”
I remember one young kid that I interviewed named Kyle. He stuck out because of his incredible positive attitude. Kyle seemed to be grateful for his personal situation and was truly appreciative of just getting the interview. He looked at the world similarly to the way I did, with wonder and amazement. Looking back now, I can see that my company was just one small chapter in Kyle’s overall journey. He had a plan all along for himself. The truth was I didn’t have a position for Kyle, but I hired him anyway because of his great attitude. I knew that no matter where I put him, he would have success in that role. He wasn’t experienced and he certainly wasn’t qualified. During my interview with Kyle, he shared his personal journey which included his relationships with his family and friends, which he valued. Kyle told me he had plenty of setbacks in his life just like everyone, but he always learned great, valuable lessons from all of
Organization) and YPO (Young Presidents Organization), and I belong to both, have amazing attitudes and value relationships. Money is literally and surprisingly not the primary goal for most successful entrepreneurs. So this is the lesson. How can a young kid with a below average GPA and no experience succeed financially in a dog-eat-dog world of business? Why was it that Kyle was able to start a business with no knowledge or experience and make it successful? What was it
them. He had recently lost his father at the young age of forty-eight and this was obviously a huge loss to a young man. What he chose to focus on was how grateful he was to spend most of his young life with his dad. He literally radiated as he spoke about his father and all their adventures. It should be no surprise that everyone in my company loved Kyle. He always asked what he could do or what he could learn next. Kyle was inquisitive and always asking great questions. From this point on, I started hiring people primarily for their positive attitudes as opposed to just their experience. It has proven to be a formula for success. No one in my company is at all surprised that Kyle went on to be a financial success. Relationships, attitude and money are definitely connected. I have witnessed it personally on hundreds of occasions. Nearly every entrepreneur that I know in both EO (Entrepreneurs
that made people trust Kyle? I believe Kyle has been successful in his life because of the way he treats all of his relationships, and, of course, his positive attitude. His family, his friends and co-workers are all important to him. The not-so-surprising result is that Kyle is important to them, too. In all relationships, there needs to be an equal exchange. You give and you get back. While it may never be exactly equal, the exchange needs to feels equal. My experience is that when someone feels valued, they typically reciprocate and tend to trust. That was over fifteen years ago, and today Kyle is a very successful business owner with many employees. We still keep in touch and when we talk, he continues to be grateful for me hiring him with no experience. His story shows that magical things happen to people that have healthy relationships. Things show up in their lives.

Altitude // Estates Our attitude defines who we are. It’s impossible to have a positive life with a negative attitude. Unfortunately, for many, managing their attitude is a daily struggle. It’s tough for someone to live life battling negativity and even tougher for those around them. I believe your attitude is shaped largely by the environment and generation into which you were born and your level of self-esteem. Our attitude about any state or condition in our life is always within our power to choose. Attitudes are rooted in one’s own beliefs. They do not form overnight, but rather, throughout the course of one’s life, and they can be modified, if you are aware of them. Attitude is one of the most important factors in helping you get through the highs and lows of life. Since attitude spells how a person copes, whatever perspective you may hold will invariably have an effect in your performance and the way you handle rejection. It can also determine your personal health. It is simple, really. A positive attitude produces much more favorable results while negative attitudes only serve to generate

failure. Remember that a person whose heart is not in what he or she is doing will never be half as productive as someone who has the right attitude. We all have within us the power to respond to any given situation in any way we want regardless of the circumstances. According to a Stanford Research Institute study, the path to success is comprised of 88 percent attitude and only 12 percent education. This doesn’t imply that education is of little importance, but it only goes to show how vital it is to foster the proper attitude in regards to success. Once you have achieved the right attitude, it then becomes much easier for things to just fall into place. I believe that in most cases, people’s attitudes are a result of their own individual self-esteem. However, improving one’s self-esteem is easier said than done. It cannot be improved by just “positive thinking” (although the cultivation of a positive attitude in general will certainly assist the task), and is certainly no overnight job. I like Steven Covey’s suggestion that we can improve our selfesteem by identifying our weaknesses, then setting goals and establishing behavioral patterns which will allow us to eliminate those weaknesses. As Covey says, we build self-worth by “making little promises to ourselves, and then keeping those promises.” JETSETMAG.COM
The great comedian Richard Pryor said, “When you ain’t got no money, you gotta get an attitude.” Now I’m not sure if he meant positive attitude, but you get the point. This is a true statement. It’s funny, too. In order to become wealthy, your attitude and self-worth have to rise along with your net worth. You must feel you deserve to have money, you must never cast yourself as the victim, you must stop settling (for less) or feeling as if you’re just getting by, and you must make the most of what you have. This is a hard concept for many of us to grasp, for most of us feel as if we’re already doing the best we can — but are we, really? Only in the last 25 years or so has the world of mainstream finance begun to acknowledge that attitude and human emotions play a part in our investment decisions. They believe, based on the evidence of years of relevant experience, that your attitude directly affects your financial outcome. I think that Playwright Tennessee Williams said it best: “You can be young without money but you can’t be old without it.” One disability in life you can control is a bad attitude, and developing a positive attitude will pay off handsomely.

We all know the world is changing. We also know that the rate of change is accelerating. The question is: Are you keeping up with change, or are you being left behind? What if the way to keep up with change… is to slow things down? By Robert Kiyosaki
I
love my work, and that is the problem. I am the type of person who goes to sleep thinking about work and wakes up thinking about work. Fun is starting my day with a to-do list. My game was to count how many of my to-dos I had completed by the end of my day. Money and success seem to come easy for people who have high-performance to-do lists.
The problem was, I began to notice the more money I made and the greater success I attained, the more irritable I became. I became less patient with other people. I was losing compassion for my fellow human beings, especially those who seemed to be struggling with the changes and challenges life was bringing them. More success meant more stress. More money meant more expensive toys. More success and more money meant more ego.
70
Finally, my cardiologist said, “If you don’t make changes, more drugs will kill you.” When I asked him what to do, he simply said, “Meditate. Make meditation a life habit, just as brushing your teeth is a life habit.” Of course, I promised I would meditate 30 minutes a day, as he suggested. I now had meditation at the top of my to-do list. The next morning, I got up, sat in a quiet room, and began to meditate. My meditation lasted 30 seconds. I could not shut my mind up. I could not find stillness or peace and quiet. My mind was reading off my to-do list as I attempted to meditate. Soon it was clear that my mind was not going to let me meditate. My mind was not going to let me find the stillness I was seeking. After 30 seconds, I gave up and did not attempt to meditate again for 10 years. During the decade that followed, I became more successful and made much more money, more money than I had ever dreamed of. As you can guess, my ego grew in proportion to my wealth. Rather than drive a Ferrari, I now wanted the most exclusive, expensive, limited-edition Ferrari. I got angry at the Ferrari dealer for not offering me the latest and greatest Ferrari first, so I took my business to a Ferrari dealer in California, a dealer who did a better job at feeding my ego and making me feel “special.” JETSETMAG.COM

At the same time, I noticed the world going nuts … stressed out like I was. Kids were walking into schools and killing kids with semi-automatic military-grade weapons. When Donald Trump won the U.S. Presidential election and Hillary Clinton lost, the world went “bipolar” — schizophrenic spewing of nothing but hate for both candidates. Our news went bipolar, too — pro-Trump or antiTrump — no longer reporting the real and more important news. The U.S. Federal Reserve Bank no longer asked the U.S. Government for permission to print money … aka QE, Quantitative Easing. The “New Normal” means the Fed has more power than the U.S. Government, printing $4.5 trillion. And they did it without asking the taxpayers if it was OK to increase the national debt, which is debt that taxpayers and their kids will shoulder for generations. QE, the New Normal, is a way to save friends of The Fed at the Big Six Banks. At the same time, QE — printing fake money — is destroying the real value of money for real people. The fake money that QE creates destroys the income, savings and retirements of real people by lowering interest rates to near zero and blowing the real estate and stock and bond markets into bubbles ready to burst. The New Normal means the number one income-generating asset for the U.S. Government is student loan debt, the worst debt of all. Today, the student loan default rate is nearly 20 percent. When a student defaults on student loan debt, most will have their credit rating ruined for life. Making matters worse, many of the students who do graduate are not prepared for the real world, a world where AI, artificial intelligence, is taking more and more jobs, not only in the United States but all over the world. JETSETMAG.COM
Small wonder people are stressed out, working harder, emotionally bipolar, more irritable — and afraid of becoming poorer, not richer, as the world accelerates into the future. About five years ago, I did a talk for a group of young entrepreneurs on my favorite subject: money, business and investing. After my presentation, a young man in the audience introduced himself and handed me a copy of his book. His name was Hal Elrod and his book was titled Miracle Morning. As a younger man, Hal was in a near-fatal car-motorcycle accident. He was on the motorcycle. His book, Miracle Morning, is about the process he used to repair and rebuild himself … physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Miracle Morning was saying the same things my cardiologist had been trying to get into my thick head. Before starting my todo list routine, I would start with 30 minutes of meditation, read a spiritually uplifting book for 10 minutes, do light exercise for 10 minutes and write positive thoughts in a journal for 10 minutes. Of course, for me, the problem was the meditation. So, I put Miracle Morning aside and went back to my to-do list morning ritual — and made even more money. About three years ago, I was sued for the third time in my life. I was never sued when I was poor, but after I got rich, the lawsuits followed. As anyone who has been in a lawsuit knows, it does not matter if you are innocent or guilty. All someone has to do is accuse you and you are guilty. Defending yourself in court is expensive, emotional and time consuming. You are not in court to prove your guilt or innocence, but to “settle,” which only means how much the person who has money will have to pay.

Altitude // Finance “The Miracle Morning and Holosync processes have made me more creative and more clear mentally.” - robert kiyosaki One good thing about being poor is that people don’t sue poor people. My concern is that, as the world grows more bipolar and the gap between rich and poor widens, law suits will increase. If you are rich or plan on becoming rich, hire an attorney to protect your assets today, not tomorrow. Keep nothing in your own name. As I sat at my desk, head in my hands, wondering why I was being sued again, I saw another book. It was sitting on my desk, put there by someone on my staff. The book was The Holosync Solution from the Centerpointe Research Institute. It was the perfect book, at the perfect time, because the book explained in simple language a meditation process that fit my cardiologist’s advice, the Miracle Morning process and my personal logic system. I ordered the program from CenterPointe.com and began meditating, finally, even with my mind screaming my to-do list as I meditated. I am not endorsing, recommending or suggesting you purchase and use the Holosync method of meditation. There are many meditation processes, and many are free. I am only saying that it is the system I use and that works for me. It works because I am both Asian and Western, and the Western scientific logic incorporated in an ancient Eastern meditation process works for me. The program states that it takes about two years for the Holosync process to begin to show results, so I trusted and used the process for two years before I began to notice real changes. Today, I still have problems. We all have problems. I still have my to-do list. The difference is that I start my day with the Miracle Morning process, and then I begin my to-do list. That one hour before starting my day has made a magical difference in my life. The differences I see are many. My cardiologist is happier because I am healthier without the need for more prescription drugs.

As he has said, “If a person is stressed, not happy, and not at peace, more medicine or drugs cannot fix that.” And I am happier. I was always pretty happy because I love what I do. Now I am happier doing what I love. And I am richer, because I am healthier and happier. The Miracle Morning and Holosync processes have made me more creative, more clear mentally and calmer in my communications to staff and customers. So, even though the world seems to be growing a bit more nuts, more bipolar every day, I do not have to be sucked into the global, swirling insanity. One great thing about meditation, studying spiritual books and journaling happy thoughts — before starting my to-do list, before listening to the stock market reports and before reading my financial books — is I can step back and choose to participate or not participate in the world’s insanity. Today I spend more time looking at the trees, flowers, birds, and rabbits than watching CNN and Fox attack or defend President Trump. The world is just the world. There is a lot of change, both good and bad, going on … with or without me. Rather than change the world, I’ve learned that all I need to do is change me. I work on my mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being every day — before I go to work.

Altitude // Inspire Relationship miscommunications can certainly be disheartening and definitely distracting and/or time consuming. If this form of miscommunication has happened repeatedly or is happening more frequently than you want to endure, then the following words could shed some inner light on your outer dilemma. Every individual you interact with will live their day-to-day lives according to what they perceive in that moment to be their most important set of values or priorities. Each perception, decision and action they will make or take will be based upon whatever they believe will give them the greatest advantage or the greatest benefits based on what they value most. To expect another individual to live according to your highest values and not their own will be foolish, frustrating and certainly futile. No individual can consistently and persistently attempt to live outside their own set or hierarchy of values. If you project your highest values onto them, you will probably end up becoming angry and aggressive, feeling betrayed and bitter, critical and challenging and despaired and depressed. It is not that they are doing anything wrong. You are simply unrealistically expecting them to act in a manner that is improbable — that is, act according to your highest values and not their own.
78
Other individuals are not going to be as committed or dedicated to your values as you are. Although, when they are initially infatuated with you and put you on a pedestal, they may transiently attempt to be. But they are ultimately committed to their own fulfilment of what they value most. You may be saying inwardly, “but wait a moment. They promised... They should... They are supposed to... “Such imperative ideals are exactly what they are: social idealisms that generally overlook the true nature of human behavior. Any time another individual appears to be temporarily committed to your fulfillment, it is because it is also helping them fulfill what is most important to them at that moment. If they perceive that doing what you feel is most important helps them fulfill what they feel is most important, the relationship and the communication seems to go smoothly. But when you exaggerate your self-importance and feel superior to the individual you are attempting to communicate with, you will tend to project your highest values down onto them. In other words, if you believe that your highest values are more important than theirs, you will become ‘self-righteous’ and will begin to think that you have more to offer than they do. That is, you believe you are more intelligent, more successful, more wealthy, more experienced, more JETSETMAG.COM
“Every individual you interact with just wants to be loved and appreciated for who they are.” - Dr. Demartini influential, more attractive, or more inspired. You will tend to talk down to them, carelessly, because you care less about their highest values than your own. You will think you are right, because you think your values are more important than theirs! And so you will expect them to live according to your highest values and not their own. However, they won’t do this! They will do what every human being does: make their decisions according to their own highest values. The instant you project your unrealistic expectations onto them, you will probably begin to feel betrayed by how they are failing to meet those unrealistic expectations. Yet the other individual never actually betrayed you. You betrayed yourself by expecting them to live according to your highest values and not their own. These unrealistic expectations can result in anger and aggression, feelings of betrayal and bitterness, despair and depression, a desire to escape, frustration and futility... all of which make it challenging to effectively communicate and relate.

Altitude // Inspire On the other hand, when you minimize your own selfimportance and feel inferior to the individual you are attempting to communicate with, you will tend to project their highest values down into you. And you will wrongly begin to think that you have less to offer than they do. You will tend to talk up to them, carefully, and even walk on egg shells because you temporarily care more about their highest values than your own and you will think they are right! And you will expect yourself to attempt to live according to their highest values and not your own. However, you won’t be able to sustain this! You will eventually do what every human being does: make decisions according to your own highest values. The instant you project their unrealistic expectations onto you, you will probably begin to feel you are betraying them by failing to meet their expectations. Yet you never actually betrayed them. You betrayed yourself by expecting to live according to their highest values and not your own. Again, placing these unrealistic expectations upon yourself can result in negative emotions, like those who project their unrealistic expectations on others experience. When you neither exaggerate, nor minimize, your selfimportance and feel neither superior nor inferior to the individual you are attempting to communicate with and reach a state of equanimity, you will tend to communicate effectively and ‘heartfully’ with reflective awareness and expression. If you are married, this approach is the one that keeps the wedding ring on the finger. It creates an equitable, sustainable fair exchange and a more lasting relationship dynamic where you both feel appreciated and loved. Every individual you interact with just wants to be loved and appreciated for who they are. And who they are, their identity, revolves around their highest values, which are the key to their most meaningful, fulfilling and purposeful expression or state of being. The same holds true for you. By determining what another individual’s top three highest values are, and by determining what your own top three highest values are, you will then have the means to communicate effectively between each other. By linking your top three values with theirs, you will enhance the communication experience and create a more enduring dialogue. Ask yourself the following two questions and answer them repeatedly 25 times with different and meaningful answers for each of your top three values and theirs.

If they cannot see how what you are dedicated to is helping them fulfill what they are dedicated to, they will want to change or fix you. No one wants to be changed or fixed; they only want to be loved and appreciated. The greater the number of connections or links you can make between your highest values and theirs, the greater your communication with them will be. I encourage you to make well over a hundred. When you value yourself and others equally, you create a respectful equity position with your relationships and reduce the probability of having frustrating miscommunications. If smooth talking Tom Cruise was the embodiment of late 80s bravado and hubris, bumbling Pratt presents as the counterpart for our current zeitgeist. A golden retriever of a movie star that we can all agree on, at a time when consensus in the national dialogue seems impossible.
82
Pratt pulled off the ultimate transformation meme in a mere two years — from oafish sitcom chubster to the most bankable movie star in the biz. Indeed, his proprietary brand of plucky affability seems to transcend cultural divides. His leading man aplomb in Jurassic World helped the raptor flick roar into the biggest opening weekend in movie history. By the numbers, Pratt is a juggernaut at making top-grossing pictures. After Guardians, which grossed nearly $775 million worldwide, he scored even bigger with Jurassic World, which banked $1.67 billion worldwide. Among a small cohort of superstars who can cherry pick projects; Pratt is the 1% of the A-List 1%. Make no mistake, 2018 marked the summer of Chris Pratt, the king of popcorn blockbusters. Starring in both the Marvel odyssey and the dinosaur sequel means that no matter who takes in a higher gross, Avengers versus Jurassic World, Pratt stands victorious either way. Since 2014, his films have made over $3 billion worldwide, more than the titles starring Robert Downey Jr. or Jennifer Lawrence over that time frame. While Pratt is the hottest property in Hollywood right now, he seemingly doesn’t harbor even an ounce of Tinseltown vanity. An antidote to the preening likes of millennial celebs, this dude seems truly humbled by it all, a far cry from the faux modesty perfected by more cunning peers. Perhaps gaining global recognition only now, well into his late 30s, has served him well. A bacon, cheddar and jalapeños kind of guy, Pratt comes by his signature, wide-eyed golly gee earnestly. His mom still works as a supermarket meat packer and has for over 25 years. Pratt’s origin story is as boggling as that of a Marvel hero. The Washington state native dropped out of college at 19, migrating to JETSETMAG.COM
the warm shores of Maui, living out of his van and occasionally a tent. As if scripted for talk shows, actress Rae Dawn Chong is credited with discovering the beach bum while he was working at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, of all places. Over the next decade, he logged primetime comedic cred on Parks and Recreation, and theatrically in Bride Wars and The Five-Year Engagement. No one did optimistic man-child or deadpan wiseass better. It wasn’t until he got jacked enough to play a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty that Pratt began to shake his on-screen doofus persona. One buff selfie “reveal” as a guest on Conan sealed the deal. From doughy boy-next-door to divinely chiseled jock who can deadlift 320 pounds, Pratt is the first to poke fun at his newfound fame. His Instagram is an endearing gift, a moveable feast of intimate video clips; we swoon voyeuristically as he french braids hair or frolics with newborn lamb on his San Juan Islands farm off the coast of Seattle. Even the most alpha of males gleefully admit to having a man crush on this guy; he’s the grateful “rescue dog” America loves to love. Given such dizzying momentum, what’s next for the megastar? On top of the next Lego Movie installment and Avengers follow up to Infinity War set for May 2019, Pratt’s Cowboy Ninja Viking just inked a splashy release date: June 28th, 2019 — the weekend before the 4th of July. We may be looking at a sequel to the Summer of Pratt should the graphic novel adaptation resonate with fans. The story follows the transformation of a patient suffering from multiple personality disorder into a super-soldier. Pratt has been trying to get A.J.Libman’s cult comic made since 2014, and now he’ll be producing it with Universal Pictures, the studio behind Jurassic World. With three solid franchises on the go, the only way is up for America’s wingman.

Dancer, Actress and World Traveler Lara Sebastian Named Miss Jetset 2018
l
By tom zenner Photography by Phyllis Lane styled by Diane Aiello
ara Sebastian calls Los Angeles home, but rarely will you find her among stereotypical Angelenos sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Ringing true to the title of Miss Jetset 2018, Lara’s playgrounds are of the more exotic type — exciting tropical and far-flung beaches and hot spots around the world. The latest and greatest installment of the contest, which has become a social media sensation in itself, could not have found a more deserving and fitting winner. In fact, you could say this dancer and actress, who continuously divides her time crisscrossing the globe for work, leisure and auditions, is straight out of central casting for the role of Miss Jetset. She’s worldly, strikingly beautiful and has logged more miles on private aircraft than a lot of seasoned pilots.

Altitude // Miss Jetset Lara entered the competition with a strong social media following, and because she’s become a digital celebrity due in part to her modeling and creative videos, she was well aware of the Miss Jetset competition. “I had first heard about the contest from my Instagram followers and saw that it would fill up my feed and explore page during the submission process,” explains Lara. “Feeling that this was something very prominent and fun, I decided to take a shot at becoming a part of this awesome opportunity.” As someone who enjoys all forms of competition, Lara has also recently discovered a passion for playing poker and is intensely dedicated to her development. She spends countless hours studying the craft and is optimistic about taking over the poker world in the next year. “I wanted to challenge myself at the highest level and the fact that poker is a heavily male-dominated industry only fuels my fire,” Lara says with a smile. When I interviewed our new Miss Jetset for this story, she was doing what she typically does between two to three weeks out of every month — traveling. This time it was to the United States Virgin Islands, a place of paradise she visits frequently, as she and her boyfriend share a house there. Lara says that her bags are always packed, personifying the Jetset lifestyle in every conceivable way, and she understands how fortunate she is to be able to visit exciting locales on private planes. “It is a big commitment to travel all over the world, but it’s something that I thoroughly enjoy, meeting new people and experiencing other cultures. Exploring the world has always been one of my life’s major goals and I’m beyond lucky to voyage in style.”

- Lara Sebastian, Miss Jetset
Apart from traveling, another of Lara’s leading goals is to continue pursuing her dance and acting career. When she’s not in the air or on foreign soil, she’s keeping her schedule open for training and auditions. Starting from a young age, Lara fell in love with the art of dancing and began to take her talent seriously while she was living as a child in Calgary, Canada. With a desire and passion to seek out bigger stages, she moved to Vancouver after finishing high school and became part of a principal dance company. Soon after, Lara made the next logical step of moving to LA where she could audition for major artists, commercials, film and TV. “I knew that I had made the right decision to live in LA when I appeared on Dancing with the Stars, performing live to an audience of millions,” Lara recalls. “The adrenaline rush when I hit that stage felt like magic and I am very proud to have been part of such an amazing show.” The cash and prizes for winning the Miss Jetset competition are staggering and enticing. With over $100,000 in financial incentives waiting for the winner, it’s a potential life-changing victory for most women. However, apart from money, the exposure offers a tremendous spotlight that will shine for someone like Lara, who graces the cover of this commemorative issue with significance and poise. “Winning Miss Jetset is going to give me a great platform and expand opportunities to push through all of my dance and modeling endeavors,” Lara says. “I still have so much ambition as a professional

dancer and performer, and I also have a lot of personal dreams of traveling to places I have yet to discover.” A look inside Lara’s well-worn passport shows stamps from Canada, Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Thailand, Bali, St. Barts and more, and this was just from the past year alone! A self-confessed, experienced and well-documented foodie, Lara makes it a point to enjoy the cuisines of each country and culture she visits. “When I travel I want to enjoy myself. I am a big foodie, so I have to counterbalance exercise with the great food that I eat. It is essential that I work out at least five times per week and keep my body in healthy shape. I’m for sure not going to skip drinking wine and eating bread on my journeys, so exercise is a must for me.” For the next year, Lara is going to be living an even more exciting life as our Miss Jetset 2018. With her new title and platform, she aspires to use it for favorable causes. “I just want to have a positive impact and become involved with charity work,” states Lara. “First up, I plan to share a portion of my winnings with a charity that is near and dear to my heart.” Congratulations Lara Sebastian, our reigning Miss Jetset 2018! An extraordinary, thrilling and unforgettable year is just about ready for takeoff, so come on board! ISSUE 3 . 2018

JetSuiteX Joins Forces with ACI Jet to Improve Air Travel By Jamie Wilson
a
irline travel. The very term usually conjures up a flashback of a weary travel experience. The wasteful requirement to show up at the airport well in advance, the indignity of security screening — a necessity but nonetheless painful — and interminable waiting in long lines. Once onboard, you are shoehorned next to another passenger (or two), with knees tucked carefully under your chin as if auditioning for Cirque du Soleil, and then treated slightly better than cargo for the duration of your flight. For many, this is more than an inconvenience — it is the travel equivalent of dental surgery without anesthesia. However, there is a far more appealing, comfortable and forwardthinking option. JetSuiteX, launched in April 2016, offers an experience unlike any other in the marketplace of air travel. It’s a “public charter” service that provides customers with the ease and convenience of traveling on a charter flight at the cost of flying a commercial airline. By design, the spacious interiors of the JetSuiteX Embraer EMB-135 aircraft offer only 30 comfortable leather seats with business class legroom —a far cry from the 50 or so seats airlines cram into the same space. This is a place where one can truly relax —or get that last little bit of work done without being a contortionist. When the time came to choose an FBO to team with to launch service at Santa Ana’s John Wayne Airport (SNA), JetSuiteX partnered with California-based ACI Jet. Since opening at SNA, ACI Jet has been a leader in providing an exceptional experience for the aviation community of the greater Orange County area. ACI Jet’s newly-renovated private FBO terminal allows passengers to go from parking to departure in just 15 minutes — all while maintaining the highest levels of safety and security. Rather than parking at the crowded airport garage and lugging baggage

around, JetSuiteX customers can valet their car and walk in to a seamless check-in process before relaxing at ACI Jet’s FBO. Spacious and filled with every creature comfort and complimentary beverage and snack imaginable, ACI Jet’s FBO is ideally suited for JetSuiteX’s unique business model that touts passenger comfort, productivity and efficiency. “JetSuiteX is a revolutionary product that is centered around delivering an outstanding airport experience, and we believe that the environment at ACI Jet matches the vision we have for changing aviation,” says Rachel Porges, VP of Marketing, Sales & Product Development for JetSuiteX. “JetSuiteX has become known for innovation and service, so it’s a natural fit to partner with a company like ACI Jet, which demonstrates those same values every day.” JetSuiteX was “cleared for departure” from Santa Ana’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) by the Orange County Board of Supervisors on June 5, and now offers multiple flights per day to Las Vegas. Potential future destinations include regions currently in the JetSuiteX network and beyond.
About ACI Jet ACI Jet is a leading California-based business and private aviation service company, enabling aircraft owners and operators the freedom to focus on their businesses rather than their travel accommodations. Organically grown, from a single aircraft operation to a multi-base fleet operator, and privately owned since its founding, ACI Jet is the premier provider of aircraft ground support services, maintenance and inspections, full-service aircraft management and private jet charter services on the West Coast. More information can be found by visiting us online at ACIJet.com.

DESIGNED WITH SOPHISTICATED LADIES IN MIND, THE RM 71-01 TALISMAN IS ANYTHING BUT DISCREET
r
enowned Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille has released its latest work of art in the form of an absolutely brilliant timepiece for women. Recently unveiled in Paris and dubbed the RM 71-01 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman, the model marks a new milestone in the brand’s rich history with designs envisioned by Cécile Guenat, the company’s Ladies’ Collection Director. The RM 71-01 is available in ten breathtaking dial and gem-set case variations, each of which is a unique work of art adorned with mother-of-pearl, onyx, diamond, and black sapphire. The model also features the brand’s first-ever, in-house automatic tourbillon movement. Even more impressive, the movement has been manufactured almost entirely of grade 5 titanium that reduces weight while still providing the durability and quality consumers have come to expect from the exquisite watchmaker. Produced in an extremely limited run of only 5 units each of the 10 variations, and with an estimated price tag just north of $450,000 USD, this is one timepiece worthy of adorning even the most royal of wrists.

AUGUST 26, 2018 PEBBLE BEACH CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE The Lodge at Pebble Beach, CA
AUGUST 27 – SEPTEMBER 9, 2018 US OPEN TENNIS New York, NY
The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is often said to be the world’s premier celebration of the automobile. Two hundred of the most prized collector cars in the world roll onto what is often called the best finishing hole in golf—the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world.
The US Open bears little resemblance to the tournament started in 1881. It has evolved from an exclusive men’s singles and doubles tournament in Newport, Rhode Island, to a two-week sports and entertainment extravaganza held in Flushing, N.Y. More than 700,000 fans enter the gates annually at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
