Building a jewelry design studio at home doesn’t require huge pieces of furniture or equipment

Jewelry making is one of the oldest crafts known to civilization, evolving with social and technological development throughout the years Today, artisans can complete the entire process of designing, casting, and assembly of jewelry design all by themselves, even in a borrowed corner of their home-based studio.

Choose a Fitting Location in Your Home

Depending on the type of jewelry-making process, the size of your workspace, or work studio can range from a borrowed corner in your bedroom, your living room, or your basement; maybe even your garage

An area without carpet is best. Solid flooring will allow you to see broken saw blades and bits of sharp metal, small pieces of wire, or other small pieces that can really hurt if stepped on! You will also need access to power for lighting, and to plug in small power tools, fans and other equipment; such as a flex shaft or a Dremel Let's not forget the water source which is needed when working with paints and other solutions or chemicals

Have Good Ventilation

If you do any work that involves polishing, grinding, enameling, casting or soldering, a fan or suction device to extract fumes and dust from the work area, preferably down and away from your face, is important

Keep a Collection of Simple Tools

Depending on the type of jewelry made, a clamp-on bench pin (the kind with an attached metal anvil works especially well), a ball-peen hammer, a file, small wire cutters, and a basic set of pliers (smooth jawed flat nose, round nose, and chain nose), you can produce a significant inventory to stock a 10x10 vending space, or booth at a craft show or farmer’s market

Lighting For Your Work Studio

If you are anything like us and often work well into the night creating jewelry, you will need to take special care with ensuring you have proper lighting for your work studio A simple bendy desktop lamp is a great starting point You want something that will be able to move easily into place over your work area or over your beading so that you can correctly see the amazing piece you are creating There are some jewelry and craft lamps which work perfectly for this job and many of them come with in-built magnifying glass areas so that you can see detail when you need to

BeltLine Business Ventures Launches for Small Businesses

The Center by Lendistry has announced a partnership with Atlanta BeltLine Inc (ABI) and CVM Worldwide to launch BeltLine Business Ventures, a new small business accelerator aimed at helping local businesses grow, create jobs, and generate wealth in communities along the Atlanta BeltLine The nation's largest redevelopment project, the Atlanta BeltLine, is revitalizing unused rail corridors into vibrant transit systems, greenways, and mixed-use centers.

Who Will Manage the Program?

Managed by The Center by Lendistry and led by CVM Worldwide, BeltLine Business Ventures will have three cohorts of up to 25 businesses taking place in Fall 2023, Winter/Spring 2024, and Summer/Fall 2024. Priority will be given to local BIPOC-owned businesses with a presence in the BeltLine planning areas. Each cohort will offer:

Three months of virtual and in-person learning sessions on business topics, including Business Model Development, Market Feasibility, Business Resiliency, Workforce Development & Job Quality Improvement Support, and Operational Excellence

Aftcra – Designers who specialize in making handmade products can list their items for free on the website. You’re only charged 7% of the sale price once you’ve sold a product. Listings expire after 6 months.

ArtFire – There are three different plans on this website. The most affordable one starts at $4.95 monthly, plus a listing fee of $0.23 per item.

Big Cartel – If you want to set up an online store and don’t mind paying a monthly fee, this may be the website for you. Plans start at FREE to $19.99 per month but there are no additional listing fees.

Etsy – This is probably one of the best known websites. They charge a fee per listing + a percentage from each sale. There are no monthly plan fees to worry about.

UNZIPPED, a feature documentary about the growing affordable housing crisis in America, was screened publicly for the first time in the community where it was filmed, Venice, California, 90291. The screening was at the Electric Lodge in Venice, California, on Friday, August 11, at 7 p.m.

The event was sponsored by The Satyagraha Alliance; the Matern Law Group, hosted by Philanthropist, Podcast Host and Attorney, Matthew J. Matern, and is a benefit for Safe Place for Youth (S.P.Y.).

The monumental film, which premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival for its theatrical release, is directed by Spike Jordan and Maxime Quoilin with the bicoastal creative production studio Good Company and created by veteran media leader Christina Norman for THINK450, the partnership and innovation engine of The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA).
