As Naples’ conservative congregation, we strive to offer learning opportunities of solid Jewish intellectual content, such as “Jewish Values in a Changing World” (four sessions), developed by the Jewish Theological Seminary and “Jews in their History” (four sessions). Both programs are taught by Rabbi Chorny.

Practice Makes Perfect: Hebrew in One Day will be taught by Rabbi and Aviva Chorny. These classes are scheduled for January and February.

Speaker Series

This year’s Speaker Series amplifies the theme of “All Things Jewish,” with seven lectures given by congregants, either on Jewish subjects or on topics which highlight the speaker’s own expertise in a secular subject.

As part of the series, Dr. June Sochen and Joyce Schrager return this year, on Jan. 28 and Feb. 7, for their very popular and always stimulating take on current events. Other speakers in the series include Dr. David Danoff speaking on “Books that Never Made it into the Bible,” and Sam Geist on “How Technology Changes our Lives ... Every Minute of Every Day!”

Scholar-in-Residence

Dr. Sandra Lilienthal, a dynamic and inspirational Jewish educator, will return as Scholar-in-Residence for four talks Feb. 19-21. She possesses a unique ability to draw us into the journey and bring us to the moment. The weekend’s theme is “Through a Jewish Lens: Anxiety and Fear in Uncertain and Unpredictable Times.”

Dr. Dulcie Poznansky Memorial Lecture

Dr. Mark Poznansky will deliver the annual Dr. Dulcie Poznansky memorial lecture on Feb. 4. Director of the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center at Harvard Medical School, Dr.Poznansky will focus on the latest developments bridging academic research and clinical care.

Other Offerings

Here are some of the other exciting events, learning sessions and holiday festivities in the works at Beth Tikvah. Because we enjoy being together and seeing one another, our three erev Shabbat eat-and-learns, which began in December during Hanukkah, continue on Jan. 15, with Rabbi Irving Elson, and on Feb. 19, with Rabbi Sandra Lilienthal. Reservations are needed.

Rabbi Chorny’s weekly Tuesday, 12:15 p.m. “Lunch and Learns” are also virtual. Follow the link and drop in any time.

Our Women’s Rosh Chodesh Study Group meets monthly on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. Topics and facilitators vary. All sessions are online: Jan. 10, Feb. 14, March 14. Check www.bethtikvahnaples.org for sessions and topics.

Expanded programming this year also offers live programs with a focus on Jewish music. We welcome 2021, on Jan. 3, with an afternoon of special music and the extraordinary voices of three Chorny women. Jewish Jazz returns on Jan. 13.

The Naples Jewish Film Festival will be held remotely on four Sunday evenings, beginning at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28 and continuing on March 7, 14 and 21.

All Beth Tikvah events are open to the Greater Naples community and are presented in a remote access format. We welcome all to attend. Please visit www.bethtikvahnaples.org for more information, reservations and payment or contact us at office@bethtikvah.us or 239-434-1818.
