Jewish Russian Cultural Alliance
from Connections 2022
by jewishnaples
Jewish Russian-American Cultural Alliance (JRCA) is a group under the auspices of Jewish Federation of Greater Naples. Jews from the former Soviet Union and countries that evolved after its collapse, are moving to Southwest Florida and seeking out new connections. JRCA’s mission is to enhance the social and cultural lives of this emerging community. Non-Jewish relatives and friends are, of course, welcome.
The group is now in its seventh year and has traditionally met to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, Purim and Israel Day/WWII Victory in Europe Day at JFGN or RussianJewish businesses in the area. Meetings include a kosher-style community meal, film presentations, poetry readings and similar cultural exchanges, but mostly, it is all about introductions and forging a special-bond community of peers. During May meetings, tributes to relatives who lived through WWII or perished in it, story and photo sharing, and occasional singing are always included.
Many newcomers pop in to find new friends and stay faithful or break off into smaller circles of like-minded friends. That’s what this is all about – no membership fees, no commitments, just fun! Cooking and baking contests for Hanukkah and Purim have produced undisputed winners and now everyone has yet another reason to look forward to new talent moving into our area.
