“Sing unto God a new song”
Charles Flum, President
For many years now, Naples Jewish Congregation (NJC), in conjunction with Jewish Federation of Greater Naples, has presented its Artist in Residence program. This year, it will be held on March 10 at the Nina Iser Jewish Cultural Center. Tickets will be on sale in January at naplesjewishcongregation.org.
We have brought back the Chicagobased a capella group Listen Up!, who will grace us with their unique brand of Jewish music. The quartet is made up of a bass/percussionist, a tenor/bass, a tenor and a mezzo-soprano. The group was founded in 1992 by Steve Singer, the “chief noisemaker.” Their mouths are their instruments.
They were here a few years ago and wowed the sellout crowd. Check them out on YouTube. Look at the ad on page 2A and get your tickets.
Come hear a different kind of song during Shabbat services. Jane Galler and Alla Gorelick, who are joined by the choir, create beautiful music which raises up the spirit. Along with Rabbi Herman’s inspirational leadership, our services are uplifting and spiritual. Come join us at the Unitarian Universalist church, 6340 Napa Woods Way, Naples for our 7 p.m. Friday night service or our once-a-month Shabbat morning Torah service. See the exact schedule at naplesjewishcongregation.org.
Judaism allows us to exercise our minds, but what about our bodies? Thanks to our members, we have partnered with the Unitarian Universalist church to have tai chi classes. This is one more way we are exploring how to have meaningful programs for our congregants.
To further engage our minds, our Sisterhood regularly holds book discussions. Rabbi Herman teaches lifelong learning classes six times a year prior to services. We have both Hebrew classes and Torah study for adults.
Come and check out “a Small Congregation with a big Heart.” Come March 10 to hear “Listen Up!”
Come check out all we do at naples jewishcongregation.org. You’ll be glad you did.
