both Danielle’s and Duncan’s heritage. Tartan tablecloths swathed tables in the Scotch and cigar bar while the Diamond Lounge was festooned with crystals, a diamond ice sculpture and Bedazzled Bon Bons. In the dining room Danielle opted for a color scheme of elegant ivory and gold with copious amounts of flowers and feathers. “I love feathers and wanted them to be a huge part of the décor. There were feathers in my bouquet, on the bridesmaid dresses and suspended from the ceiling, from the chandeliers,” says Danielle. Guest dined on a sumptuous meal of filet mignon, shrimp imperial, butternut squash succotash and haricot verts, followed by the wedding cake designed by Danielle, who based the detailed scroll work on pieces of estate jewelry. Suspended above the six-foot tall cake were large sepia-toned photos of both couples’ parents and grandparents on their wedding days. “We’re both so close to our families, so we wanted this to serve as an homage to them,” says Danielle. ✧

The day that the pregnancy test stick reveals a plus sign is the first day of many months of anticipation. Parents begin to ask themselves, “Will my baby be healthy?” “What color eyes will she have?” “Will he be big and strong?” The gender question naturally arises : “Is it a boy or a girl and which one do I want?”

llison Baumwald is pregnant with her second child. She says she does not know what she is having, just as she didn’t when her first daughter, Henni, was born. “Before we even had kids, when I was pregnant with Henni, we just knew we would be the parents of girls. All along, we just sort of assumed that and were excited about the idea. Now, already having a daughter, we would love for Henni to have a sister. But if it is a boy and we have one of each, that would be wonderful, too,” says Baumwald. “I

Husband Adam gets his “boy fix” from the nephews. Baumwald says she doesn’t like to hear her friends talk about wanting this or that gender baby — or at least not about the notion that they would be disappointed if their preferred gender was not born. “Why wouldn’t anyone think that a healthy child is the most important thing?” Baumwald asks. “To say, ‘I would be disappointed’ or to show See It’s A Baby on page 36
