As predicted, following Jared’s Decemeber 10 bar mitzvah at Beth El Congregation, a Terps-themed party was held at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation. “Anyone who knows us knows that my husband Stevan is a huge Terps fan. Our family goes to all of
the football games, so the Terps theme came naturally. However, I didn’t want the party to just be a football theme. Since we are so familiar with the look and feel of the stadium, I thought it would be fun to have a stadium theme,” says Stacy Simons, mother of Jared. the bar mimicked a tailgating tent and a concession stand offered kidfriendly food such as hot pretzels and sliders. Place cards designed to look like tickets were stamped JOS (Jared’s initials) Field at Byrd Stadium and directed guests to their assigned sections. “Jared’s friends were all seated in ‘Jared’s End Zone’ while all of his brother Zachary’s friends had their own section called the ‘Student Section,’” says Stacy. At the end of the celebration guests indulged in a hot chocolate bar with minimarshmallows and disposable cups, and were gifted with stadium blankets as giveaways. “I wanted it to be a super fun weekend for both the kids and the adults. Everything tuned out perfectly,” says Stacy. “My favorite thing about the party was that it was all about me. It was everything that I could imagine or ever want. It was so much fun to share the day with all of my friends and family. I couldn’t have asked for anything more,” says Jared. Zachery, age nine, concurs with his older brother. “The food was really good, DJ Dru was fun and I loved sitting in my own section with all of my friends.” Adds Zachary, “Growing up, whenever the Terps did something
good my dad would get excited, so I would get excited, and now I love the Terps too.” In fact the Simons have already planned Zachary’s Terps party for his future bar mitzvah. ✧
