Marion is 70 years old with limited mobility. She engages in a cottage industy and takes care of her grandchildren, aged 4 and 6. Lincoln Square has been designed with consideration towards Marion’s requirements. A accessible and uncomplicated design accommodates Marion’s mobility while providing ample rest areas and recreation spaces for her grandchildren. CHARACTER

The market stall enables a range of functions depending on the environmental circumstances. During the daily market, it acts as a stall for goods. at other times, it becomes seating or play equipment. The sliding bench underneath the concrete table extends the length of the stall while the hollow design provides storage space underneath.

AFTERNOON
When the world was torn apart, there was no one to protect us. Nature took its vengeance on humanity while a totalitarian government waged wars to fuel a corrupt agenda. The future looked bleak, until a few of us decided to rebuild life in this place. The Square is special. It protects us, guides us and brings us together. Each morning I wake to a green field, kept safe from the winds by two embracing arms. Here, the children play while I prepare for the midday market in the shade of the overhang.
MIDDAY
I travel up one of the arms, bringing me to the top of the overhang, home of the market. Community flourishes in the market, a lively space tucked away from prying eyes. I set up one of the stalls which line the walkway while I watch other people sell their goods, play games and engage in conversation. Harsh weather does not stop us; another overhang protects the market, allowing us to continue our daily life.

MORNING
After I pack up my stall for the day, I take the grandchildren to the park, which hangs over the market. I watch them play while I sit under a tree, taking in the view over the Square. The park faces the setting sun, which turns the sky a brilliant orange behind ruined buildings, a reminder of the chaotic world around us. Yet here in Lincoln Square, I feel at peace.
