Structure&Constructure Highway Bird-Watching Tower Design Date: 2023 Summer Instructor: Shaopeng Zhang Academic /Group Work/Team Leader Through the knowledge about the structure of the bird by analyzing the bird as well as its wings and flight posture. The design of this birdwatching tower was also developed based on the bird's body as a prototype, taking into account the use of birdwatching. It tries to help translate the knowledge of the bird's structure into the structure of the tower.

Wing trajectory

At different flight speeds, bird wings show different trajectories of activity and movement. On this basis, the waving trajectories of the feather edges are extracted and organized to produce different motion graphics.

Low-speed flight

Low-speed flight shows a reciprocal C shape, and larger range of trajectories are showen on elevation.

Shadow of birds Extract the underlying linear shape from the contours and analyze the image composition of the structure.

Medium-speed flight The trajectory of the medium-speed flight is stretched, and the area of the image becomes larger.

High-speed flight

The elevation space is further expanded at high speeds, but the trajectory space is squeezed in the plane.

Structure Of The Tower The structure of the tower consists mainly of two types of wood and concrete. The two types of timber serve different purposes, one being used as a support structure, which carries the main load-bearing function of the tower, and the other being used as a floor. The concrete serves as a support. The tower is assembled by means of splicing, which reduces the construction difficulty and facilitates the constructor to complete the construction process quickly and efficiently.

Connection In Details The tower has a variety of connection methods to maximize the speed of assembly and splicing through different connection methods. At the same time, the simple connection method facilitates the construction also reduces the cost to some extent.

Section On the section, the form echoes the bird's take-off and spreading of wings, and the structural gesture follows the form of the skeleton.Observation of different birds is facilitated by platforms of different heights. The mutual concealment of the tower from the trees facilitates the fading of the tower into the trees.

Feel the combination of materials in different perspectives, echoing the archetypes and gestures of the bird's wing structure in different positions. At the viewpoint near the highway, an attractive structure is shaped to make it easy for visitors to watch the migration of birds and enjoy the beauty of the area from a distance.

New Rural-Urban Transformation Designing for Mental Health in High Density Sprawl Location:Dachang,Hebei Date: 2023 Summer Instructor: Yechi Zhang Academic/Group Work/Team Leader The project is designed to address the current situation of high-density sprawl for the sake of human mental health. The project is based on the "Northern Three Counties" area in the suburbs of Beijing, where high housing prices and poor occupancy rates due to unhealthy real estate development have brought about undesirable patterns of urban sprawl. At the same time, the migrant workers, as a special group, are poorly integrated into the city and do not have good skill support, and lack corresponding job opportunities and living space. The project tries to reduce the waste of space through the reuse of excess space (bubble implantation), and at the same time implant a variety of industries to enrich the employment opportunities for this group. By enhancing the target group's sense of accomplishment, the project improves the marginalized experience of the migrant workers, heals their hearts, and reduces the waste of urban space and unhealthy development of the high-density urban sprawl.

The project site is located in Dafang County, Hebei Province, which is one of the three northern counties on the outskirts of Beijing. The area does not have a good inherent drive for urbanization, but its proximity to Beijing has given rise to many high-density sprawling residential areas. However, the vacancy rate is extremely high due to poor supporting facilities.

Site Analysis

Design Background

The problem of high-density urban sprawl in today's society continues to grow. The real estate sector in cities is in an unhealthy growth. Due to the poor connectivity between people and cities, the mental health of people is gradually deteriorating. We need a solution to the urban problems of today's society.

Agriculture Center

Interior Space Rendering

Agriculture is an industry in which the group of migrant workers in the city is more specialized. By placing bubbles in the space and dividing it into agricultural zones, we can provide employment opportunities for this group and give full play to the advantages of their skills, so as to strengthen the sense of achievement of this group of people.

Farming Area Section In the agricultural zone bubbles, emphasis is placed on the development of vertical agriculture to provide vegetables and fruits for the city. At the same time, the bubbles break the limitation of the height of the storey, so that fruit trees can be planted appropriately to provide cash crops for the groups of workers who come to the city and to enhance their economic returns. Inside the bubble there are passages provided for tourists, which can give them the experience of integrating into agriculture and make the project more attractive.Distribute residential units around agricultural areas to provide residential space for families of migrant groups. It also reduces the distance to the workplace and makes it easier to look after crops. The first floor of the agricultural area is used as an area for product sales and exhibitions, which can provide sales opportunities for the target group and increase economic income.

Ustinian—Spatial Design For Situational Substitution

Location:Harbin, Helongjiang Date: 2022 Autumn Instructor: Liu Jie Individual

Location:Harbin, Helongjiang Date: 2021 Spring Instructor: Dong Jiangfei Group Work/Team leader Starting from the movie "Inception" and combining with students' reallife needs, this project creates an open and closed space for students to discuss and research, so that they can complete discussions and collisions of ideas in a suitable space.

In the pre-design stage, the shots of the movie "Inception" are analyzed to understand the shape of the space in the movie by portraying the subplot of the shots. The project was to design a cafeteria for faculty students at the new campus. The purpose of the project was to help provide a space where teachers and students could take a break. It facilitates communication and dining so that the students and teachers can feel relaxed in the space.

This design focuses on furniture selection and material fit. In the design, we understand the problem of matching the furniture with the human scale, and at the same time, through the way of rendering, we understand the technique of expressing the interior space.

At the same time, the sub-scenes are transformed into comic patterns to extract the key plot of the movie and provide reference for the design of spatial feelings. In the design, the program splits, dislocates, cuts, and combines multiple body blocks, and pushes for forms suitable for expressing spatial changes.By making a model, we deduce the logic of the composition of the space, and study the emptiness and reality of the space with the help of light.
