Start with a fuel injected marinized 6.2L supercharged small-block V8, managed by GM’s powerful MEFI 6 engine controller. Then put out 557 horsepower at the prop shaft and one word comes to mind… MUSCLE. General Motors’ LSA has nearly six decades of continuous development behind it and 100,000,000
small blocks later, it’s ready for a whole new application – the outboard motor. Running on 89 octane fuel, no premium required, whether fishing offshore, running to the Bahamas or powering a new tender, the 557 is ready. Flexing so much outboard muscle under one cowl has never been possible –until now.

Turn the key and the 557 ignites with a classic V8 growl. Dry chambers bark as the twin water pumps compel water through the dual exhaust in a cascading flow. The overboard acoustically attenuated exhaust then settles into a rich idle note with a pleasing RUMBLE. The 3.5� exhaust combined with traditional thru-hub
outlets keeps running decibels to a minimum for comfortable cruising. While under the harshest operating conditions, jacketed stainless headers keep temperatures cool while minimizing back pressure, boosting fuel economy and top-end performance. An exhaust system that makes a statement – without overstating it.

A high-performance engine deserves a highperformance cooling system. The 557’s is closedlooped - the most advanced, and first ever for an outboard motor. Keeping it COOL, ethylene glycol continuously flows through the engine in a closed-loop. Seawater with its corrosive impurities is pumped by twin counter-rotating
gear driven impellers, through engineered coolant and oil heat exchangers, never contacting internal engine components. Easy rear access to the water pump simplifies service and maintenance. Superior thermal management, corrosion resistance and overall engine durability – significant new peace of mind.

A ZF Marine transmission, with roots from inboard technologies, designed exclusively for the 557. Fly-by-wire controls, wet disc clutches, and spiral bevel gears handle the SHIFT providing smooth progressive transfer of power from the engine to the prop. Designed from the start with joystick operation in mind, the
computer controlled transmission can seamlessly shift thrust on command, significantly improving maneuverability. Integrated troll control allows a nearly infinite adjustment of forward trolling speeds enhancing bait presentation. A transmission in an outboard‌ more confidence and more control – revolutionary refinement.

Engineering the transfer of power on the industry’s first horizontal crankshaft outboard motor presented new design opportunities. The ability to CHANGE a variety of gear ratios for different applications with easy access to gear changes. Lightweight helical gears transfer the power quietly and for the first time, our
quick-change gear system provides a targeted mix of speed, torque and fuel economy. From singles to quads, trolling to cruising, step bottoms, deep vees or cats, the 557 can be perfectly matched for virtually any vessel. Setups as unlimited as the variety of requirements - impressive and unprecedented.

There are no shifting clutches in the 557’s gearcase. With shifting moved into the ZF transmission, the twin-pinion gearcase is dedicated to VELOCITY. It is designed to do one job, and one job only – maximize hydrodynamic efficiency. A long slender torpedo creates less drag, twin pinions cut geartrain stress
by half, a stainless steel rear bearing carrier improves propshaft support, and a longer strut accommodates up to 18” diameter propellers. Dual adjustable water inlets even allow clean water pickup on step-bottom hulls. A serious spec for serious off-shore boating - sometimes less really is more.

The power of the 557 is harnessed and controlled by the versatile ZF Smart Command 5000 system. With the touch of a button throttle, shifting, and joystick CONTROL are seamlessly integrated. Maneuvers are made with total confidence assisted by the refined feel and nimble response. Tight quarters, high winds, or
strong currents are perfect excuses to let the joystick control hold position or ease sideways right up to the dock. At speed, a rigid tie bar maintains motor alignment for precise high speed steering. Wide open and trimmed up, back at the dock, and everywhere in between – total control.
