Dear Friends, On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are delighted to welcome you to Jewish Family Service of the Desert’s 14th Annual House & Garden Walk. Today’s tour features four truly spectacular homes in Rancho Mirage. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the four homeowners who have generously allowed us to share their lovely homes with our guests. We are honored that they have opened their homes and their hearts to support the work of Jewish Family Service of the Desert. We would like to thank event co-chairs Myra Gordon, Joan Kerns and Joyce Wolff for their continued leadership and contributions to the success of the House & Garden Walk. Thank you also to Babs Schrager for her tireless efforts in producing this wonderful commemorative program book. Finally, we greatly appreciate the dedication of the house captains and the docents for their work in effortlessly facilitating the experience of hundreds of our guests touring the homes. All of the proceeds of today’s event benefit the more than 2,000 men, women and children that will be served by Jewish Family Service of the Desert this year. Your support provides critically needed services for some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Thank you for your commitment to the work of Jewish Family Service of the Desert. Warmest regards,

To accommodate an expanding and richly hued art collection, additional gallery walls and surfaces in a neutral palette were constructed during this home’s extensive renovation and redesign. The collection includes large format canvases, glass, and sculpture by artists that include Picasso, Rufino Tamayo, John Buck, Tony Berlant, and Ed Ruscha. New finishes and materials exquisitely capture the home’s clean architectural heritage. Wall finishes are neutral, off - white Venetian plaster. Producing this particular wall finish is quite labor intensive and it is rarely used so abundantly. Photo by David Glomb

To maintain the heritage of this “vintage” Stephen Chase-designed home, long-time Chase collaborators Randy Patton and Cheri Kelley were engaged to plan refinements and various finish and décor improvements. Evidence of original materials can be found in the bar/den area, main guest suite, and again in one of the master baths. Clean lines, simple textures and neutral hues perfectly showcase the dramatic and noteworthy art collection, including works by Kiki Smith, Joey Kirkpatrick, Kara Walker, and author/artist, Nancy Blair. These avid art collectors literally raised the roof of this stately home in a redesign to better enhance their collection of prominent American and Canadian artists. The collection is provocative and humorous and includes the works of such artists as Karen LaMonte, Chris Woods, Ed Benavente, John Buck, Jennifer Bartlett, Sophie de Francesca, Sorel Etrog, and Don Gummer. Disciples of famed architect Ricardo Legorreta, architects Bill Bernstein, Carlos Zubieta and Gerardo Alonso collaborated to create an authentic Legorreta-style home in the desert. A vibrant glassed-in loggia acts as the entry, separating the living and personal wings. The large great room opens to the pool terrace. The master bedroom anchors the western end of the northern wing, featuring a full height picture window that frames a classic wall spout fountain flowing into the spa. Materials include large wood beams, vibrant colored plaster, polished concrete floors and steel gates. Photo by Karen Buxbaum
